Confused by doctors (pics included)

Recommended Posts

Hi

My story goes like this. I started lossing my hair when I was 21. I got on finpecia and 5% minoxidil at the age of 22. I continued this for 3 yrs. It worked pretty well and I maintained what I had. Infact I gained some density as well. After that I got off finpecia because of the sides. This was a year back. After getting off finpecia I started applying 10% minoxidil solution twice a day instead of once. 6 months back I started on finpecia again. Taking 1mg every alternate day. But I've stopped that again because of the side effects.

I have attached my pics below. Basically I'm 25 and I'm destined for a nw6 or nw7. I want to get an HT right now. Nothing to aggressive but enough so that I can live my life for the next few years without worrying about looking as if I'm bald at 25. I've been advised everything from between 1200-6000 grafts. From a strip procedure to FUE.

I'm presently in NY and will be travelling to India in the near future. I've decided that I will not be going back on finpecia again. I'm personally leaning towards small strip procedure of about 1200-2000 FU's to increase the density of the front and middle portion of the scalp. I'm considering strip because I know I'll be getting future HT's. So keeping in mind the cost and the number of grafts that can be retrieved, I'm in favour of the strip procedure.

What do you guys think? Should I consider an HT at this age? I'm really confused, specially because all the doctors I've had consultation with(mostly thru e-mail) have given completely diff suggestions.

Since u r in NY, have u done an online consultation with Doc Feller at Great Neck? I think he is widely recognised as one of the best around. It does not do u harm to pay him a visit. His notion or verdict should be very accurate.

That said, i think 1200 grafts is too low a number to decently cover anything. However, i assumed you have enough donor in the first place. Just my humble opinion :)

If you see the pics with dry and combed hair, 1200-1500 grafts could help me rebuild a natural (less agressive) hairline and add some density. Which could help me for a couple few years and so I get a chance to see how my hairloss progresses and tackle it then. I have avg donor desnity of about 6000 grafts.

What were the finpecia sides ?

Loss in libido and weak erections. The sides go away after a month or 2 of stoppin finpecia.

The problem I'm having is that I've received completely diff opinions from various docs.

Dr. A r v i n d P o s w a l:

To go in for a HT involving 5000-6000 grafts

Dr. Cole:

To go in for 1200-1500 grafts but no strip. Only FUE, no strip and I should start on finpecia again if I want my HT to be successful.

Dr. Shapiro:

Anything between 2200-2500 FU's with a strip procedure. Also I should start on finpecia again to give myself the best possible results.

Dr. H&W:

Don't do anything right now as I might progress to nw7.

This has made it really difficult for me to take a final call on this. I'm completely confused. So I'm hoping you guys can give your opinion as well.

Thanks

You would be making a huge mistake to get an HT. At 25 you have very aggressive MPB and a HT is just going to look like you're still balding but only very slightly less. Bu then you will have lost thousands of dollars and the chance to just have a normal looking head. Thin hair transplants don't look good, period. Listen to H&W.

I really wish you could take the Finpecia. Even half a tablet will give you about 80% of the benefit.

1500 grafts isn't crap, believe me. I had 1300 divided up into the front half many years ago and it isn't squat for coverage.

Finasteride 1.25 mg. daily

Avodart 0.5 mg. daily

Spironolactone 50 mg twice daily

5 mg. oral Minoxidil twice daily

Biotin 1000 mcg daily

Multi Vitamin daily

Damn, with all the stuff you put in your hair are you like a negative NW1? :D
