Hi all...long time lurker first time poster. I've been doing a ton of research and have read a number of posts on this board discussing the pro's and con's of FUE vs strip.

 

I went to see Dr. Keene here in Tucson and she mentioned the tricho enclosure. Does anyone have any pics of this type of method vs normal methods? Does this method allow one to cut their hair relatively short (say a 2 blade?)

For starters, allow me welcome you to the forum! You've come to the right place for answers. As azn_guy pointed out, a quick search will yield volumes on the subject but I can tell you a few of things based on experience.

 

How short you are able to buzz your hair after a hair transplant will depend on several factors including;

 

 

 

• how coarse/fine your hair is
  
• density in your donor area
  
• skin color
  
• scalp laxity
  

 

 

As for me, I had a very loose scalp prior to my first hair transplant. After my scar healed, it was pencil thin and invisible when clipped to a #3. I never tried cutting it shorter than that after it had healed completely.

 

Now I'm on HT #2 and my scalp is considerably tighter this time around. I'm hoping for similar results but I wouldn't be surprised if I experience some stretching this time. Time will tell.

As you may have guessed, many hair transplant doctors use a trichophytic closure to reduce scarring in follicular unit transplant or "strip" procedures.

thanks for the link to the pics....i guess if I go with the strip method I probably won't be able to wear my hair short.

 

my strategy is going to go with FUE first and then maybe go strip method down the road....just not sure if I want to have a scar the rest of my life.

Personally, I don't think thats a good way to go about it. If you decide on a large FUE session, you may need to continue down that road. Once you have your FUE session the donor is going be depleted and more so with each session, to have a FUT at a later date would mean wider/longer strips being taking than would usually be needed to obtain the desired amount of grafts this brings a lot of problems with it.

I'd go with fue, I had to have my scar filled with fue, hate the thing.

FUE stands for follicular unit extraction.

It all depends on your hair loss condition. Those with very bad hair loss probably can only opt for strip to maximise the no. of grafts available to them. I know Sparky would nvr concur to strip as he got a very bad experience which i admit. If done improperly, scars can leave a damage on your soul more than hair loss actually can. There are too many examples in this forum which feature HT goers with very bad scars. However, i am not frightening u, hell ya i had a strip surgery on myself but it really depends on your doc. If your doc is very good at closing up the strip, there is little chance u will get a wide scar. Just do a search and u will find a whole lot of information comparing FUE and strip surgery.
