I'm at a crossroad and need some help please! Theres not any doubt with me that the strip is better over the fue, however i have always had a backup plan if i got a ht in my mid twenties and then for what ever reason in the future i didn't get another one i could shave my head to a "grade 1" and know one would know that i ever had a ht. This was the plan with fue, however since my opinion has changed in favor of the strip with trichophytic closure is this still possible to get away with a "grade 1" if for whatever reason i chose not to have another ht in the future?

I am seen lots of pretty amazing thin scars. Just this morning i saw somebody who had HT 5 months ago, and the scar is undetectable, so yes even with grade 1, nobody would see.

 

I had seen also a few cases of bad scars or permanent shock loss. So i guess, it all depends on the skill of the doctor and that you don't too much exercise right after the HT.

My goal is ultimately to be able to shave down to a 2-clip. I am able to get away at the two month mark with a 3-clip with very minimal scar visibility.

One of my patients EZ Duzit has a blog showing a scar revision/hair transplant and VERY short haircuts almost immediately after the case. When I saw him a month ago he promised to post pics the 26th of every month but I haven't seen anything for Nov.

It all really depends on the individual. Some go to #2 and I have even heard claims of #1. There is no exact number that applies to everyone.

Well the guy i saw this morning, i am sure the scar is still undetectable even if he shaves his head with #1. By the way, it is his second HT.

Yeah, I have also seen some amazing mature scars (or haven't seen them ;p)in the early months post-op while the scar is still red. I have read a 3 guard is around the lowest most can achive, maybe that is what Mikey79 was refering to?

I just got mine cut down to a 2, and it's undetectable. I think some hairs have grown into my scar because I can hardly find it myself.

 

If I can manage to drop about 20 pounds, that I've been talking about for 5 years, I'm going with a buzz cut.

 

However, as it stands now I risk looking like Tojo Yammamota right now, at 5-8, 190 lbs.

In my opinion, if you are not willing to commit to a long term hair restoration game plan that you and your doctor work out, don't get the first hair transplant.

 

If you are one of the rare lucky few, you may be able to shave down to a one clip and now show any signs of scarring, but don't count on it.

 

Anyone considering shaving their head that short must be aware that scarring may show through. If you don't care to show the scar, that's fine. But if this thought concerns you and you are animate about shaving your head this short, don't get a strip procedure done.

 

Even FUE scarring can show through at really short hair lengths, depending on how many grafts are extracted, the size of the tools, your healing characteristics, etc. Admittedly however, FUE scarring is usually less noticeable with extremely short dos since grafts are taken at varying locations instead of a linear strip.

 

These are all things to consider before moving foward.

Exactly Bill,evryone sounds like their counting on their scar being pefect? Lot's of guys still get not so pefect scars no matter who they go to. If your going to keep your hair so damn short then why do you even need an ht? Shave it off.

Scars are very hard to predict. ALL surgery of this nature leaves a scar. Usually that scar is very acceptable, but sometimes its not--even in the best of hands.

 

Tension management, intervention when appropriate and 2 layer trichophytic closures are key to minimizing bad scar risk.
