Regular Member gap Posted April 13, 2003 Regular Member Share Posted April 13, 2003 This is copied from Dr. Greco's website. It was accompanied by a pic: This is an example of a sutured donor site immediately after closure. The sutures are dissolvable and are under the surface of the skin. They do not require removal. Dissolving stitches are very prone to infection. I had dissolving stitches used on my first HT and got a nasty infection and a wide scar. I think that staples are the way to go and a lot of the Doc's are using them. Staples are a lot more expensive than the thread so that may be why some of the more profit driven clinics don't use them.
Senior Member uncjim Posted April 14, 2003 Senior Member Share Posted April 14, 2003 Hey Gap, I believe that you are comparing 2 different things here. Staples are used for final surface closing. Dissolvable sutures are for below the skin surface. During my procedure, Dr.Wong used staples for the final surface closing. He also used dissolvable sutures for blood vessels that needed closing and that were under the surface of the skin. Senior Member EastCoast Posted April 14, 2003 Senior Member Share Posted April 14, 2003 I heard staples are faster for the surgeon. I also heard staples transect more hairs as the staples are placed closer together unlike stiches as they are about 1/2 apart.

Senior Member ttaco Posted April 14, 2003 Senior Member Share Posted April 14, 2003 Yes, I had 430 or so from '95-98. Dr. Weidig in Rockville, MD, did the work. On one of my old posts I go into more detail about it.
