Senior Member Rhodeman Posted May 11, 2007 Senior Member Share Posted May 11, 2007 I'm wondering if Curis will continue to evaluate the hedgehog even though Wyeth has pulled out. I actually thought it was P&G that was collaborating with Curis on this [?]. Either way, the Wyeth [or P&G] involvement was purely for the mass production/marketing part anyway, so if Curis continues testing/research & hedgehog proves to work, the big boys of the pharma world will be buying up Curis & marketing/producing the hedgehog for the hair application in record time. Guest HLBD
Curis has stated that they will not continue with their research in terms of hair loss. It has always been a bit of a bastard child that they simply wanted to make money off. Wyeth leaving was a big disappointment and it seems that Wyeth left based on some unfavorable toxicology reports. They believe that there is no way the FDA would approve a quality of life drug that might cause BCC. Wyeth had the rights to collaborate with Curis on all skin (and hair) applications of the hedgehog agonist. Curis had the option to find another collaborator and did with P&G specific to hair loss. Wyeth, however, was backing the research for the agonist as a total package. So the end of their collaboration marks the end of P&G's backing money and the end of that area of research. Curis has stated that they are now focusing on the anti-cancer applications of the antagonist.
Bill - Seemiller
HLBD, I'm glad they will at least continue their research on hair loss. It seems like they MIGHT be onto something. Thank you for the detailed reports on this research. I look forward to hearing more as time progresses. Cheers, Bill
