Senior Member wesley949 Posted December 4, 2005 Senior Member Share Posted December 4, 2005 Pat, thanks for your work on the site. I have set a date for early January to get some repair work and about 2,300 FUT's done at the Fort Lee office. I have met with Dr. Bernstein twice and he has been very professional. His staff also appears to be on top of everything. I will keep everyone informed of my experience. Bill

Senior Member wesley949 Posted December 5, 2005 Author Senior Member Share Posted December 5, 2005 Hi Ken: In the 70's when I had a full head of hair I decided to take the "bull by the horns" and get some transplants in my crown area when I noticed it starting to thin a bit. That was a mistake because the shock loss was worse than anything. Thus, I have about 15 to 20 plugs in my crown that are still growing. If you are concerned about making an appointment with Dr. Berstein, let me assure you you should not be worried. I have met him twice. Once in NY and I also attended an Open House in New Jersey. He was very nice as was his staff. In fact, you may want to sent him an email first detailing your problems or concerns. He responded to several of my emails on the same day they were sent. My initial reason for writing to him was to ask some questions about my sons who are in college and still have very good hair and are not candidates for transplants. He said he would be more than happy to look at them and there was no charge. Frankly, I am beyond being concened about my hair loss. I have four kids and have a lot of things going on. However,I have always taken care of myself-run marathrons, lifted weights, etc. and after seeing the curent state of the technology, I really wanted to get those plugs out. The additional hair will be a bonus if it works as I hope it will. Good luck and let me know if you have additional questions. Bill
Senior Member wesley949 Posted December 5, 2005 Author Senior Member Share Posted December 5, 2005 Ken: I just re-read my response and it sounded a little "stuffy" with regard to not being concerned about my hair loss. The reason I am not concerned is that I have very little hair left and have accepted the fact that I am bald after years of going through the trauma most of us have gone through. Would I love to have my hair back-you better belive it and my memories of losing my hair have made me very sensitive to my boy's hairlines. Administrators Pat - Community Publisher Posted December 6, 2005 Administrators Share Posted December 6, 2005 Guys, Dr. Bernstein does have a very well deserved reputation for doing excellent repair work. When I was visiting his clinic this past summer he had two cases that day and one was a repair case. Dr. Bernstein took the time with this patient to remove large plugs, and individually suture each area where the plug was removed from to minimize scarring. His staff then disected the plugs into follicular units for re-transplanting. Some clinics simply try to mask the large grafts with newer grafts. But I think Dr. Bernstein's approach is optimal for the patient, while tedious for the staff. I recommend that you read our repair section to learn more. Regular Member kjp Posted December 7, 2005 Regular Member Share Posted December 7, 2005 Hi Bill, Thanks for your response.I am 37 now and when i was 21,23,25 i had three procedures done of mini and micro's done totaling 900 grafts.I was never happy with the results.Back then there was no websites or info about trnasplants like today.I was never happy with the results and always felt it was unnatural and people could notice. I decided when i was 28 to get another procedure done which was larger 1300 mini and micro's bascally to mask or hide the bigger grafts. I have a hairline that is lower than it should and two scars which one is wide(from the first three). I want to see what can be done and Dr bernstein seems to be yop on the list.I am really afraid to get all these bad grafts removed and look worse for 6 months because the hair in my fron is all trnasplants and shedding i am sure will be great. I guess i am nervous as heck just to go thru the whole thing again after having the 4 procedures done when i was young and uninformed. The Fu's look awesome today and i am so jealous.I don't think nothing can be done with the lowness of my hairline cause there would be way to many grafts to remove. After your post i think i will at least meet with Dr Bernstein to here what he has to say, I think i am leary cause i will get all bad news....Thanks for your help Bill Ken

Senior Member the B spot Posted December 8, 2005 Senior Member Share Posted December 8, 2005 KJP Regarding your hairline-- I found it interesting to see how "low" hairlines can be softly blended from thin in front to thicker as you progress to the mid-scalp region. Try to imagine a large "T" on your head with the top of the T attaching the hair on the sides of your head directly above your ears. The long slender part of the "T" would point toward your forehead and gradually thin out towards your hairline. I believe that this approach could help mask the fact that your hairline may be "too low". The result of this type of approach is from a direct frontal view, a person would be hard pressed to see to the back of your scalp, actually giving you the illusion of having a muture hairline. Of course, the more donor hair available the more density you can achieve, etc.. The best bet is to have SEVERAL consults with respected Dr.s in order to make an informed decision. Who knows, you may be able to produce enough donor hair to make that "low" hairline a reality =) Best of luck and keep us posted!
