Regular Member sea of possibilities Posted July 2, 2008 Regular Member Share Posted July 2, 2008 hi guys. I'm having a second transplant soon and I don't know which method should I go for. My question is, does FUE leave scars in the donor area, like spots from a pen? I have to decide soon so I'd really appreciate an answer. thank you

Dr. Timothy Carman
sea- Imagine what remains if you remove a one, two or three hair follicular unit (the "unit" of hair removed in FUE); that's right, a space!! Therefore, technically speaking, there is a "scar" wherever you remove a follicular unit. However, in the hands of an experienced and artfully minded surgeon, their appearance (especially in hair of "normal" lengths) should be negligible. Senior Member the B spot Posted July 2, 2008 Senior Member Share Posted July 2, 2008 Hi Sea-- the answer is yes and no. If a doc uses 1.0 and smaller, the likelihood of white dot scarring is minimized. This is NOT to say that it cannot occur. However, past a certain point of donor extraction (some say 25%, some 33%, a very few 50%) there are "gaps", which can lead to the moth-eaten look you might hear about. At this point, most would agree strip is the most optimal yield, but for smaller sessions, if a patient can absorb the cost of FUE, it is a good choice for those worried about a strip scar. In your case, if you already have a strip scar that is excellent, but if it does not allow you to shave down to a #2 ---the potential scarring from FUE should not worry you--- from what I have seen, only patients who are concerned with shaving down to a #1 poss. a #2 should be overly concerned with white-dot scarring. As long as the donor is not over-harvested, once the hair reaches the equivalent of a #2-#3 shave, nothing can be seen. What size session are you looking for BTW?
