Senior Member homer Posted April 14, 2003 Senior Member Share Posted April 14, 2003 I have been told that the hair at the sides of the head is also permanent and can be used for donor hair. However no-one seems to be discussing having hair removed from this part of the head and using it as donor hair. Is this possible with the strip procedure? Thanks for any feedback. Senior Member uncjim Posted April 14, 2003 Senior Member Share Posted April 14, 2003 Homer, Yes it is possible. My donor area went from above one ear to the other. Of course, the surgeon has to be cautious as not to go up too high, or you may be getting into an area that is programmed for baldness. Senior Member homer Posted April 15, 2003 Author Senior Member Share Posted April 15, 2003 I didnt know that, however how come pictures of donor scars are usually a line on the back of the head and nobody takes pictures of the sides or discusses it? Senior Member arfy Posted April 15, 2003 Senior Member Share Posted April 15, 2003 Some people get larger strips taken out than other people, depending on how much work they need and/or how good their clinic is at planning for the future. Also, by the time the excision reaches the sides, they generally tend to taper off and that area is where the strips "close". Since the "sides" can recede, you have to be careful, as you don't want the scar to become exposed years down the line, if it extends too far.
