Guest
I had my HT with Dr. Paul Shapiro on 9/21/06. I am a 6, like all the men in my family. Big hair loss. 49 yo. I long ago shaved my head and never considered a HT until a friend had one. Dr. Paul said, in so many words, that I had an "adequate" donor bank. He recommended one HT, hoping to get 3,000, while holding back a reserve for a follow-up in a year if I wanted. He cautioned that the coverage might be less than I might like. He was encouraging about the results, but clearly wanting to keep my expectations realistic. This was very consistent with my initial consultation with Matt Zupan. There's no smoke being blown at Shapiro. Dr. Paul ended up getting 2,800. Nine hours in the chair. The time passed. The transplant was not painful, just weird. The office staff was relaxed, friendly, but professional. The OR had a nice view of the river. Lord of the Rings DVD played on the monitor, but I was too blurry from the meds to care much about Frodo and his plight. I was thrilled with the results when I got back to my hotel. I won't know the end results for 6-9 months I guess, but I am so glad I went through with this. I did a lot of research in advance. I wasn't going to proceed if I didn't think the results would look natural. I consulted 5 surgeons. One clearly wasn't interested in working on someone with my hair loss, but the other four gave similar assessments on a HT for me as Shapiro. I can recommend Dr. Paul and the Shapiro office. My photos stink, sorry. I'll try to get some better ones.

Regular Member csofrank Posted September 28, 2006 Regular Member Share Posted September 28, 2006 Congratulations Mike. I had mine done at SMG with Paul as well back on 6/15/06. I have already noticed growth starting at the 10 week mark. Dr Paul is great like you said. Just keep your head out of the sun and you will be fine. cso
Administrators Pat - Community Publisher Posted September 29, 2006 Administrators Share Posted September 29, 2006 Mike, Congratulations on joining the real "hair club". I like the look of your new hairline and the coverage. Essentially you will get a promotion from bald to thinning/receding, which should frame your face nicely and look good. I have been hearing great reports about Dr. Paul Shapiro and I have seen him in action and he seems to have perfectionitis like his brother. Perhaps we can use the Shapiro brothers to determine whether being an excellent hair transplant surgeon is genetic or environmental? Feel free to create a free hair loss weblog to keep a photo journal of your progress. Best wishes for a bumper crop. Bill - Seemiller
Hey Mike, It looks like things are really starting to come in. Things appear a little patchy from what I can tell...maybe it's the angle, lighting, or size of the photo that is deceiving me...or it could be the hair all over the place . BUT, hair can grow in that way...but it will ewventually fill in. Either way, must feel nice to have some hair again. You should continue to have new growth for a few more months, and surely your hair will thicken and become more natural looking. Please keep us posted Bill
