  5. To Nathaniel: Thank you for your great interest in my work, I tried to answer your questions as clearly as possible: 1. I always use single hair units for the 'feather line' and mix up double and triple hair units immediately behind the feather line to preserve the natural implant of the follicular hair groups after transplantation. The attached picture clearly shows the natural implant of the follicular hair groups, by mixing double and triple hair units we create a similar effect as the natural hair growth. 2. In this patient's case the width of the transplanted area is about 2cm-2.5cm. 3. It depends on each patient 's individual wish, if the patient prefers a soft or a strong hairline. As mentioned above we mix up the double and triple hair units and do not place them as described in the documentation of Mickey85 or the diagram on SMG 's website 4. I am certainly willing to come back to you on this at a later stage but at this moment I am unfortunately not able to show you these diagrams due to my very tight schedule and lack of time, I can however already tell you that I try to avoid using 4 and 5 hair units, in case we do use them, they are always placed in coronal slits 5. For eyebrow reconstructions we use the Choi Implanter to avoid damage to the follicular units because of the sagital implantation in the eyebrow region, for all other treatments we use forceps for the implantation of the follicular units 6. In my opinion customized blades, I use Cutting Edge blades in my clinic, cause a minimum on damage to the skin, that's basically the reason why I use blades and not needles. Dr. Bijan Feriduni

  18. FUT/FUE performed on a 34 year old Caucasian male with: - NW II-III Class N - Donor density of 80-90 FU/cm2 - Hair diameter of ~ 90 microns Treatment plan – 1st procedure: A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 1500-2000FU to restore the entire hairline; A medical therapy with finasteride to stabilize the hair loss in the crown area. 1st performed procedure (March 31st, 2008): A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 2003 FU * 899 single hair FU * 1104 double hair FU Trichophytic Closure technique in double layer suture; Parallel incisions in custom-sized blades technique (~Cutting Edge blades of 0.85mm – 0.95mm). Treatment plan – 2nd procedure: The patient was not completely satisfied with the density in the hairline and I was not really happy with the natural appearance of the hairline due to the patient’s hair diameter. Therefore a Follicular Unit Extraction with 1200-1400 FU was planned to slightly lower the existing hairline, to add density and to add fine single hairs to the hairline (‘cherry picking’). We also decided to correct the existing linear scar with 200 FU. 2nd performed procedure (January 31st, 2011): A Follicular Unit Extraction with 1441 FU * 645 fine single hair FU * 796 double hair FU * No triple hair FU Microscopic preparation of the single and double hair FU was carried out; Parallel incisions in custom-sized blades technique (~Cutting Edge blades of 0.80mm – 0.90mm). Dr. Bijan Feriduni

Dr. B. Feriduni
  20. @ Sean - Just like in masculine hairline design, female hairlines must be conform to ethnic specifications and of course to the facial shape of each individual, so there are indeed subtle differences between Caucasian female hairlines and Asian or African female hairlines. But overall a female hairline shape is always rounded and without any fronto-temporal recession in comparison with a masculine hairline, no matter which ethnicity. This patient was moreover not a suitable candidate for a forehead reduction due to her hair loss pattern, which was almost ovate in shape. @ Headbangerguy, Slickers, MPBsucks & Irishsailor - Thank you for the compliments but to be honest this patient was not 100% happy with her result. She suffered from a scab layer in the central core region for more than 3 weeks after the surgery resulting in a lower regrowth in this area. We performed a small touch-up procedure in February 2012 to achieve a higher density rate in the central core. I will keep you updated with the results in a couple of months! Best regards, Dr. Bijan Feriduni
