  1. Thanks Spex, TakingThePlunge and Future_HT_Doc for your compliments! It is indeed very difficult to work with African hair. As you can witness on the pictures of the follicular units, they are very curved indeed which makes it really difficult to cut them to size with an increased transection risk. Best regards, Dr. B. Feriduni
  2. FUT performed on a 45 year old African-American female with: - Donor density of ca. 45-50 FU/cm? - Hair diameter of ca. 70 microns Treatment plan: - A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 1500 FU to restore the entire hair line Performed procedure (September 4th, 2009): A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 1694 FU * 782 single hair FU * 682 double hair FU * 230 triple hair FU Donor closing in double layer suture; Donor strip extraction with The Haber spreader™; The average density is about 30 FU/cm? but thanks to the frizzy structure of the patient’s hair, the optic density looks very high, even at 9 months postoperative. Dr. B. Feriduni
  3. FUT performed on a 31 year old Caucasian male with: - NW Class IV-V class N - Donor density of ca. 95 FU/cm? - Hair diameter of 69 microns Treatment plan: - 1st procedure with 4500 follicular units to reshape the face and fill in the mid head area - 2nd procedure with 2500-3000 follicular units add more density in the mid head area and cover the complete crown area Performed procedure (June 4th, 2009): A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 5183 FU * 2020 single hair FU * 2209 double hair FU * 954 triple hair FU Donor closing (double layer suture); Cutting Edge blades of 0,70mm – 1,00mm This patient is one of the exceptional fast ‘growers’. Since we are only able to upload 30 pictures, we could not insert the 6 months top view results. If required we could post them later. Dr. B. Feriduni
  4. Thanks Dabuski, Future_HT_Doc, Robin_at_USHR, aaron1234, Bill and Maxxy for all those compliments! To aaron1234 : There luckely is no MPB in his family, his father is about 45 years old and still has a head full of hair! It will not affect the scar if his head will grow in size and shape. I do not think that the question whether the possibility on MPB in the future exists or not is really relevant in this case. I think the result will certainly affect his further childhood and youth in a positive way and that was actually my main concern. Best regards, Dr. B. Feriduni
  5. To ted.j : I indeed perform all my operations myself, there is no other doctor operating but me. It is however team work, I have a team of 6 nurses that assist me on every operation. Four of them have an experience in hair restoration surgery for 8 years and two of them for more than 13 years. Best regards, Dr. B. Feriduni
  6. In May 2005, a then 6-year-old boy visited my clinic together with his parents. The boy had a burning wound on the left side of his scalp (left temporal occipital), in grade II and III. This burning injury was a consequence of an accident with Fondue oil during the end of year celebrations in 2004. Because their health insurance refused to cover the costs of a possible surgery, he became one of our first ‘Foundation’ cases. Treatment plan of the two-step surgical procedure : -The first surgical procedure involves a scar reduction to reduce the extent of the scar surface and a Follicular Unit Transplantation with a minor density of 10-20 FU/cm2 in order to improve the blood supply and vascularisation in the scar tissue. -The object of the second surgical procedure is to reconstruct the left temporal angle, to increase the overall density (scalp growth) and to optimize the final result. Performed procedures: -The first surgical procedure was performed in July 2005 and carried out in intubation narcosis. A scar reduction was executed and subsequently we performed a Follicular Unit Transplantation with 1123 follicular unit grafts. -The second surgical procedure was performed in April 2009 and carried out under local anesthesia. A Follicular Unit Transplantation with again 1932 follicular unit grafts was successfully executed. It is always nice to see that patients feel great after their hair transplant surgery but in this case it was a unique and pleasing experience to be able to help this young boy on his way to live a carefree childhood. Dr. Bijan Feriduni
  7. To TC17 and Bill: This amount of follicular units is the maximum amount that we could extract up to now in a single day session. We were able to transplant this amount of follicular units in one day thanks to several positive factors : - The follicular units were very easy to extract, we extracted more than 600 FU an hour; - Microscopic preparation was not required; - It was not a problem for the patient to stay in a lying posture for many hours. The operation was performed in a timeframe of 12 hours. We performed an intermittent Follicular Unit Extract or IFUE in 3 steps: 1. Extraction of the FU followed by premade incisions (2500 inc.) and subsequently the implantation of the FU 2. Extraction of the FU followed by the implantation of the FU 3. Extraction of the FU followed by the incisions and subsequently the implantation of the FU And we finally added the finishing touch to the hair line using the 'stick and place' technique. To Bill: I personnally think it is important to stay within the universal safety zone and I always try to do so. Best regards, Dr. Bijan Feriduni
  8. Follicular Unit Transplantation performed on a 33 year old Caucasian male with: - NW Class V-Va - Donor density of 92 FU/cm?? - Hair diameter of ~75 microns Treatment plan: - 1st FUE procedure with 3000 FU to reconstruct the hair line and mid head area - 2nd FUE procedure with 3000 FU to restore the crown area and increase the overall density Performed procedure (May 3rd, 2009): A Follicular Unit Extraction with 3029 FU in a single day session, '3 step procedure', i.e. an intermittent follicular unit extraction (iFUE), with: * 831 single hair FU * 1562 double hair FU * 636 triple hair FU Extraction performed with a 0.9mm FUE punch with Versi handle?„?. No microscopic preparation of the follicular unit grafts; Parallel incisions (single and double units) were made in custom-sized blades technique (~Cutting Edge blades of 0.7mm ??“ 0.9mm); Dense packing technique with a density of 50 FU/cm?? in hair line and feather zone (single units), a density of 40 FU/cm?? in density zone (double units) . This patient is definitely an exceptional case as he has an extremely high donor density/yield. In general this procedure would also be performed in a 2 successive days session. His second FUE procedure is planned in the month of April 2010. Dr. B. Feriduni
  9. Thanks Raphael84 for your praising comments! I must say this patient ???s result is rather exceptional. Thanks to the preoperative use of Minoxidil 5% new growth of fine hair occurred in the hair line. Both the fine hairs and the outcome of the hair transplant lead to a very natural and almost undetectable hair line. I am always a bit skeptical with treating the crown area of patients younger than 35, I personally prefer to recommend the use of finasteride as an alternative treatment until they are at their mid-thirties. Costs for a FUE procedure amount up to 3.95,- Euro per FU + 500,- Euro medical costs, we offer a travel package with hotel accommodation and taxi service for our foreign patients. Best regards, Dr. Bijan Feriduni
  10. Follicular Unit Transplantation performed on a 22 year old Caucasian male with: - NW Class I - Donor density of ~75 FU/cm?? - Hair diameter of ~80 microns Preoperative consultation: Family history of the patient: Father is a Norwood III anterior, no other hair loss in the family. Information on the eventuality of further hair loss in the future and detailed advise on choosing the accurate hair line was given during two preoperative consultations. After close deliberation the patient decided to choose for a conservative hair line design. Treatment plan: 1 FUE procedure to reconstruct the hair line, fill in the temporal angles and the left temporal peak. Performed procedure (January 30th 2009): A Follicular Unit Extraction with 812 FU * 307 single hair FU * 505 double hair FU * No triple hair FU Extraction performed with a 0.8mm-0.85mm titanium punch. No microscopic preparation of the follicular unit grafts; Parallel incisions (single and double hair units) were made in custom-sized blades technique (~Cutting Edge blades of 0.75mm ??“ 0.8mm); Dense packing technique with a density of 40-45 FU/cm?? in hair line (single units). Dr. B. Feriduni
  11. Thanks Bighosedragger, TC17, Mick and Future_HT_Doc! It is nice to know you appreciate this patient's result! To Bighosedragger: The patient was already on finasteride for 1,5 years before his treatment. The patient has a quite good donor yield, he certainly has about 6000-7000 FU left for future sessions. To TC17: The amount of grafts per cm?? varies between 35 and 50 FU/cm?? Best regards, Dr. B. Feriduni
  12. Follicular Unit Transplantation performed on a 24 year old Caucasian male with: - NW Class III vertex - Donor density of 98 FU/cm?? - Hair diameter of ~75 microns Treatment plan: - 1 FUE procedure to reconstruct the hair line and feather zone - Medical therapy with Minoxidil 5% lotion Performed procedure (June 10th 2009): A Follicular Unit Extraction with 1814 FU * 400 single hair FU * 500 double hair FU * 914 triple hair FU Extraction performed with a 0.85-0.9mm titanium punch. Microscopic preparation of the single follicular unit grafts; Parallel incisions (single, double and triple hair units) were made in custom-sized blades technique (~Cutting Edge blades of 0.75mm ??“ 0.9mm). The patient is an exceptional fast grower, the transplanted hairs continued growing directly after the procedure. Dr. B. Feriduni
  13. FUT performed on a 34 year old African male with: - NW Class III anterior class N - Donor density of ~45-50 FU/cm?? - Hair diameter of ~95 microns Treatment plan: - A cheloid test with 100 FU - A strip procedure with 1800 follicular units to reshape the face and fill in the mid head area - A medical therapy with Minoxidil 5% lotion Performed procedure (April 09, 2009): A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 1740 FU * 490 single hair FU * 820 double hair FU * 430 triple hair FU Donor closing in double layer suture; Donor strip extraction with The Haber spreader?„?; The average density is about 30 FU/cm??. Thanks to the frizzy structure of the patient's hair, the optic density looks very high, even at 8 months postoperative. Dr. B. Feriduni
  14. FUT performed on a 28 year old Caucasian male with: - NW Class IV class N - Donor density of 72 FU/cm?? - Hair diameter of 64 microns Treatment plan: - 1st procedure with 3200-3300 follicular units to reshape the face and fill in the mid head/crown area - 2nd procedure with 3000 FU to fill in the temporal angles and cover up the complete crown area - A medical therapy with finasteride to prevent further hair loss 1st procedure (December 19, 2008): A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 3650 FU * 800 single hair FU * 1640 double hair FU * 970 triple hair FU * 240 four hair FU Donor closing in 2mm lower edge Trichophytic Closure Technique (double layer suture); A combination of parallel (single hair units) and perpendicular incisions (double and triple hair units) in custom-sized blades technique (~Cutting Edge blades of 0,70mm ??“ 1,00mm); Dense packing technique with a density of 45-55 FU/cm?? in hair line and feather zone (single hair units), a density of 50 FU/cm?? in density zone (double hair units) and a density of 10 FU/cm?? in the crown area (triple hair/four hair units). The second procedure was already possible at 9 months postoperative thanks to the very high flexibility of the patient ??? s scalp. 2nd procedure (October 1st, 2009): A Follicular Unit Strip Transplantation with 3140 FU * 700 single hair FU * 1500 double hair FU * 900 triple hair FU * 40 four hair FU Donor closing in 2mm lower edge Trichophytic Closure Technique (double layer suture); A combination of parallel (single hair units) and perpendicular incisions (double and triple hair units) in custom-sized blades technique (~Cutting Edge blades of 0,70mm ??“ 1,00mm); Dense packing technique with a density of 45 FU/cm?? in the temporal angles (single hair units) and a density of 30-35 FU/cm?? in the crown area (double, triple and four hair units). Dr. B. Feriduni

Dr. B. Feriduni
  16. Dear Bill, It is always such a pleasure to read your positive feedback on our patient results! With every patient we try to focus as much as possible on an undetectable and natural looking hair line. We often spend up to 2 hours in making the pre-made incisions using different strengths of magnifications and in adding the finishing touch to the hair line using the stick and place technique. In my opinion this result has proven to be worth the effort! Best regards, Bijan Feriduni
  17. Thanks TC17, Orangehair, Bash 77 and Mick! I really appreciate your kudos! Best regards, Dr. B. Feriduni
  18. FUT performed on a 26 year old Caucasian male with: - NW type: II anterior, Class N - Donor density of 90 FU/cm?? - Hair diameter of 64 microns Treatment plan: A Follicular unit Strip Transplantation with 2000-2200 follicular units to reconstruct the entire hair line and fill in the temporal angles. I will try to post some pictures without gel during the following check-up. Dr. B. Feriduni
  19. An eyebrow reconstruction performed on a 47 year old female with a subtotal congenital aplasia of the eyebrows. The complete or partial lack of eyebrows gives an incomplete facial appearance, especially for women. Therefore this patient had her eyebrows tattooed several years ago but was never happy with the result as she thought it looked unnatural. I performed an eyebrow reconstruction through strip surgery and transplanted 200 FU in each eyebrow. The pictures are taken 8 months postoperative and I expect the eyebrows to gain on density within the next couple of months. Dr. B. Feriduni
  20. Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your kudos! To TC17 : This patient had indeed a lot of four hair grafts, which is rather unusual. In general we do not prepare any four hair grafts but since the patient had so many and he needed the density, we decided to make the best use of them and it worked perfectly in his case. To Thanatopsis, Dakota3 and Bill: Unfortunately I did not take any top down pics of this patient up to now. However I will make sure to take top down shots on his next visit. Best regards, Dr. B. Feriduni P.S. : Sorry for the late answer but I attended to the ISHRS meeting at the end of July and took two weeks off directly after that.
