i'm seeing the cardiologist tomorrow morning and hopefully can get off it quickly. Anybody know if your hair (transplanted included) grows back if I've only been on this med for 10 weeks. I would hope so but heard somewhere that even if you stop taking a beta blocker the lose is usually permanent? Doen't seem to add up to me. Anybody with experience please let me know. Again, very lose does and short period of time on it.

I just started a very low dose of a beta blocker (metoprolol tartrate) two months ago and take 12.5 mg in Am and about 8 mg in PM. I could swear I'm noticing some more hair in my comb lately (from front and top), like 20 or so hairs a day. That problem had seemed to diminish greatly over the years as I would hardly ever notice hair in my comb anymore (most of it fell out in my 20's and the HT hair isn't going anywhere). I read that only about 1% of people even report hair loss on this drug and I'm not sure if that is at higher doses as 25 mg is the lowest does, with 50 and 100 mg being more typical. I only started taking this fro some benign PVC's I was having. I'm thinking of stopping the med after talking to cardio since it's not medically needed, it just reduces my symptoms. If the beta-blocker is causing thinning, are there any ones that don't given the low dosage I take. And...will my hair grow back? Scheduled to get a HT with Dr. Dorin in Nov. It's been about 4 1/2 yrs since my last one with Dr. Katz.

Excellent idea! I'm sure it will be a blast for anyone able to attend. Unfortunately, that time frame overlaps with the family vacation this year, but maybe next time. There's certainly alot to celebrate, as this site has served as a valuable resource to so many people.

I agree with previous comments...the burden of proof is on the manufacturer, and there is still a lot to prove with this product's claims. That picture and generic product overview isn't going to cut it. For starters, if it really is a proven product that's been around for so many years then why's the marketing so poor? Hopefully, there's more scientific evidence that can be provided to the site for review, otherwise it appears just to be another "miracle cure" with little backing.

I just tried the light brown a few weeks ago on my crown area and it works great. I do think I need to devote more time to it in the morning though since I only give myself an extra 3-5 minutes to apply it after I've blown-dried my hair. Is it initially supposed to be kinda pasty or am I applying to much water to the applicator? It never seems like powder to me, just a scalp tanner that reduces the contrast when i brush my hair straight back. Maybe I should be applying it differently for better results, any suggestions?

Agreed, take it from someone who went through one of the "hair mills" many years ago. They can sell you a bill of goods that you are stuck with trying to fix the rest of your life. The thing with a place like MHR is that their work may look good until you have done enough research to see what type of quality work is really available by the top docs listed on this site. Take your time with this decision.

Bill, I was looking forward to seeing some updated pics. Looks great, and I agree with the opinions that you could always go back later and "soften up" the front area if you want to. In my opinion, your hair looks very natural even cut short, since you have enough to pull that look off, but it's your hair so grow it as you please. We should try to catch up some time in June or July. Shorty B

Chalfont is close to me, I'm only a few minutes from the Philly Turnpike exit, off of Rt. 1. I would definately like to check your resluts in person once you hit the 6-8 months mark. I'm sure you can provide me with some good advice on my next HT as well. We'll exchange contact info. and set somthing up in a few months. Jerry, I agree Bill comments, so I won't waste time repeating them all. The pic looks good in my opinion and the fact that you are happy at this point is all that matters. You have the option to go with a HT later if you want, so see how the system works for you in the meantime. Thanks for sharing.

Nicholas, Your posting gave me flashbacks I, like many others on this site, started losing my hair at a young age. I started around 20 and lost alot over the next 4 years, then it started to slow down. It was devastating, but I still found a way to enjoy college, dating, going out, etc. I did wear a hat 9 out of 10 days but it worked for me. Looking back, it was much harder to deal with hairloss at that age than in my mid 30's since there didn't seem to be nearly as any people suffering from it (at least that I hung out with). I think all the advice you have gotten so far advice on this site is good, continue to use it. Believe me, I wish this type of support, and information was available when I was your age. It would have save me some painful (and expensive) mistakes. I had a HT at 21 with one of the old hair clinics and it was a bad choice, I should have waited a least another year and found a top doc (easier said than done at the time), but I was desperate for a solution and not wasn't looking at the longterm plan. I see no reason you shouldn't seek a consultation with a surgeon listed on this site, since they are the best. I know you may feel your world is coming to an end, but it isn't. Do your research, use this site as much as possible, get back on the meds. and things will fall in place with you. The advancements made in the HT field have been amazing over the last few years, so you'll have options that wouldn't have been available to you a number of years ago. DON'T RUSH INTO SOMETHING LIKE A HT SINCE THE RESULTS (GOOD or BAD) WILL BE WITH WITH YOU FOR A LIFETIME. In the meantime, make every effort to enjoy your college experieince, since they turn out to be some of the most memorable years in many people's lives. Keep us posted on your situation.

I relize this post is a year old, but for anyone reading it, avoid Dr. Horace MacVaugh and NuHart at all costs. I had my first couple of procedures with him 13 years ago back when he was with Cleveland Hair Clinic. Not very good results and horrible scar after the 2nd HT that I've had to get revision work up front with Dr. Gallagher and part of the scar removed over the years just to look OK. Unfortunately, I never took pics. of those old surgeries, but they were horrible by today's standards.

Gratefulhead, Thanks for the info on the buzz-cut, it was very insightful. I too have always used the X-Mas holiday time to get any HT's done since I am able to get about 15 days away from work without using all my vac. time. I could probably strecth it out to 3 weeks, but that would be it. Not sure how the buzz would look at that point since I haven't had one since high school. Looking forward to those pics (after you consult your people of course).

Gratefulhead, Thanks for the update on your recent HT with Dr. Feller. I am planning on scheduling a consultation with him at some point during the next 4 months or so to see what he can do for me in the way of a final surgery for added density in along the hairline and some additional coverage in the crown area. My 1st surgery was 13 years ago, and I have had total of 6, though 4 of them were very small compared to today's standards. So much has changed in the HT field over recent years as far as the number of grafts per session and techniques for obtaining a natural appearance. Unfortunately, I was thinning pretty bad by 22 and felt I had to do something about it rahter than wait a few more years. I am excited to see what Dr. Feller may be able to offer me. As far as the shaving goes, is that standard for all patients or just on a case by case basis depending what your needs are? I too have been able to keep the fact that I have had HT's a secret since I started the procees before I was bald and have always been able to keep enough natural coverage over the years. However, a close-up view from the sides (at the right angle) is detectable since I need some more density. A shaved-head would probably be a dead give away for me (particularly since I would have some noticeable scars from old surgeries), but just a short cut shouldn't present any problems. After I buy a digital camera this X-Mas. I post some pics. for opinions. I hope you decide to post some pics from your recent HT as well. Best of luck on your healing and growth.

diamonddee, I started using Propecia 8 years ago when I was 26. I can't remember having any shedding either, but it did worked. It grew a noticebale amount of new hair for me in the first few years I used it and in recent years has helped me keep some of what I got on top. Stick with it for another 6 months and see what happens.

Bill, Thanks for your feedback, especially considering you had your 1st surgery with Katz. The work by Dr. Hasson looks like it's gonna turn out great. It seems obvious from some of his work that I've seen that he is part surgeon, part artist. Good pics from all your treatments - thanks for sharing them. Just curious, how much did the Hasson session run you? Was Katz reasonable priced?

1st post on site even though I have visited it a few times. Being that I've never posted before, I'll give a little backgorund. I'm 34 yrs. old and I started visibly losing my hair around 21 (plesant experience), had 3 small HT's (250-350 mini/micros) at one of those "hair mills" between 1994-1997. Results were not great, but I had enough hair left that it was not noticeable to anyone even upon close inspection. But what was becoming noticeable to me after the 3rd surgery was the fact that I was getting a wide scar that was hard to cover when I had my hair cut short. The hair clinic didn't seem to care and I knew there had to be something better out there even with my limited funds at the time. I found Dr. Gallagher in Dec. of 1998 and had two 600-graft sessions with him over a 4 year period and recently a scar revsion (from my "hair mill" days) with about 250 singles along the hairline 10 months ago. I feel the overall that the results from Gr. Gallagher have been great and look very natural. It it virtually undetectable, but not completely from a very close side angle.I don't fault Dr. Gallagher for this, he did a very good job to get me a natural look in my opinion. Here's my question: I would like to have a final surgery 1 - 2 years from now just to refine the hairline area and a little arond the crown. I'm married with kids and have more hair than many of my friends do that used to bust my balls in my early 20's, so I'm ok with a thinning naturally thinning look as I get older, key word being natural. Due to multiple surgeries over the years, I don't have much donor area left for another incision. Still good coverage, just tight. Probably just a small one on the left side. I live in Philly and was considering Dr. Katz. Is he the best in this area from what you guys have heard and would anyone not recommend him for any reason? Again, I'm at the final stage of HT treatments as opposed to the beginning so the mega-session HT's are out of the question for me. Also, I didn't see a real benefit in a FUE procedure either, but then again I've never met anyone that had that type. Any opinions on that? Thanks and I look forward to the feedback. I know if I could do it all over with the HT technology and internet research tools (like this great site) that are available today, I would. Some of the results that can be achieved with the right doctor are simply amazing.
