  1. I had surgery with the nimble fingers of Dr Knudsen of Sydney in mid January, 2004. I wanted a natural hairline to complement the previous surgery I have had over a 15 year period. The entire top of my head, through a variety of techniques, has been transplanted/relocated. Anyway, I am happy and would like to share my results. Feel free to critique the results.

  5. Back on topic, regarding Baz White. Anyone who has read on this site in the past will be aware that one member had a less than satisfactory result from Dr White. Others have had different results and post op opinions. Personally, I considered going to Dr White but was totally put off by his 'Rep' in Sydney who came across as being very hard sell. I had a bad vibe, and thought that any surgeon who was happy to be represented by a shonkster like the guy who did my assessment, wasn't to be trusted. I ended up using Dr Knudsen in Sydney and have been very happy with the results. The jury might be out on Dr White as a surgeon, but he is, by far, the most active in marketing.
  6. Qvarnis, I also live in Australia, Newcastle actually. In regards the silicea tabs, I have also heard that they might be handy. Too early to tell yet as I have only been using them for about a month. Where did you get your MSM from? Glad you are happy with your work from Dr White. I was all set to go with him but was spooked a bit by his 'salesman' in Sydney. I ended up with Dr Knudsen in Double Bay. Had the procedure in January and have been very happy with the results. Keep us posted, especially about where you got your MSM in Australia. Good luck!
  7. Did you say at week 5? Maybe they actually were grains of rice that had fallen on the floor and picked up a couple of hairs. This unlikely scenario sounds more likely at week 5.
  8. From information I have gathered from this site I would suggest that...... Apparently the loss of a graft is accompanied by quite a bit of bleeding and you may see what looks like a grain of rice. Basically, you will know if you lose one. As a rough guide: After 2 days the grafts are getting there, by days 7 and 8 they are in. From memory, I think my scabs started to disappear after 6 or 7 days and were all gone by about 10 days. Everyone is slightly different though. Sweetlittle, there is oodles of very similar threads on this topic. If you do a search, you should find heaps. I know it is easier said than done, but try to take it real easy, don't pick at the grafts, try not to bump anything, relax and let nature take its course. You should be fine.
  9. South,we all get HT for ouselves of course. We also probably get HT for ouselves so we feel more comfortable about the way others see us. A very valid reason. BTW,I was just making a throwaway comment about getting the chicks at 70 ish. In reality, I am not that sad.
  10. Thanks, Arfy. I am about 2 hours drive from his office in Sydney, so I feel like a local. I'll be in touch with him. Cheers
  11. Not being and expert, I would tend to agree that the idea of 'permanent' hair can be a little misleading. I have often wondered about the same thing as I see some older men with fairly severe, in some cases, thinning in the 'non balding zones' at the back and sides of the head. If someone is predisposed to this type of thinning, you would tend to think that both strip and FUE patients may end up with some problems. But I suppose that, as a 70's plus guy when it happens, the chicks won't be too fussy !
  12. To Arfy or any other Woods patients, do you know whether he ( Woods ) does any small ops of around 100 grafts or fewer? I am aware that he basically likes to book a surgery to last a day. From my understanding, that is about 500 grafts isn't it? Down the track, I have thought about getting FUE into a small scar just behind my hairline. The area is about 2cm X o.5 cm. I think about 65 grafts would fill it nicely. Do you know if he does very small sessions? Thanks

  14. Thanks Hugh. By the way, you have a groovy name. It reminds me of a guy I went to school with. He was a little overweight. His name was Hugh Jarse. Thanks again for the tip ( no pun intended)
  15. Hi all, I live in New South Wales.Newcastle, actually, which is about 2 hours north of Sydney. Enough of geography ! I can't seem to find anyone who sells Toppik in NSW. I am aware of an outlet in Melbourne, but that is 15 hours away. So, if anyone can offer some info, especially our Sydney posters, it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

  17. Toppik sounds alsmost too good to be true. Guys, living in Australa as I do, buying Toppik is a bit of a nightmare. Basically I can buy it from Melbourne from the Doctor who performed Parable's surgery. This is the only place who appears to sell the stuff. The problem is Melbourne is about 15 hours drive from where I am. I would like to get colour matched etc before I buy and also find somewhere a little more convenient. To any New South Welshmen out there who use Toppik, where do you get it? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
  18. Thanks Dr Limmer. I actually played the trial and, even if I do say so myself, I played a blinder. I was on fire !!.....well sort of. Thanks again.
  19. Hi guys, I am 9 and a half weeks post op. I had strip surgery and had grafts on my hairline area only. I have recently noticed some regrowth. It started at around 2 months, which I realise is quite early. I also, unfortunately, had a fair amount of shock loss below my donor scar ( about 2cms all the way along the strip scar.) I have read the debate about physical activity and donor scar stretching with interest(mainly weight lifting). So far, I have jogged a couple of times and had a very leisurely soccer trial. I love my soccer and my team has a game on Sunday. Now the question..... Can, at 9 weeks, I damage my scar by running around at soccer? What do you guys think? Will it be okay, or should I put it off for a couple of weeks? My Doctor says I can't do any harm. I have read where other Doctors on this site say similar things. I am also aware that there are conflicting views on this and that some Drs suggest 6 months plus as a guide. Of course I would love to play, but i also want to do the smart thing. Cheers, Rocky.

  21. If Mel Gibson has had a HT, I would immediately suggest his surgeon go on the 'to avoid' or whatever it is called list. Mel appears to be balding naturally. Mind you, I haven't seen him since Mad Max.
  22. I was anticipating lots of information regarding my question when I noticed that there had been 15 replies. After checking, I felt a little differently when I realised that about 12 responses were about Dr Charles' spelling prowess. Once again, thanks Dr Charles for actually answering the question. You certainly get full marks from me for staying on task.
  23. cjking, I am also 7 weeks post op and have experienced a fair bit of shock loss below my strip scar. I checked with my doc and he said exactly what Dr Charles said. I suppose we just have to sit back and wait. I have actually grown a bit of a mullet to hide my scar work. The scary thing is, I'm actually quite taken with my new 'do'
  24. Thanks Cam, reassurance from someone who has been through it and come out the other side is really appreciated. I spoke to my Dr and he basically told me the same thing. The biggest shock was that I didn't know it was there. Thanks again.
  25. I am 5 weeks post op. I was casually running my fingers through my donor area last night and I felt what appeared to be bare skin. Feeling a little concerned, I checked the area with a mirror and noticed that I had significant ( 1-2cm )shock loss below my donor scar. I was pretty worried by what I saw. I have my hair quite long in the area and previously wasn't aware of any problem below my scar since the surgery. I have had previous surgeries and my scalp felt quite tight after my last HT on Jan 14. Have other parients experienced anything similar? I am aware that shock loss can occur at the donor site but is this reasonably normal? At 5 weeks, can I assume that this shedding/shock loss will have stabilised? I am not aware how long it has been like this. Please tell me everything is ok and that, like my little babies on my hairline, the hair will grow back in after their rest cycle. Please feel free to offer any advice etc. Rocky
