  1. I believe my new hairs are beginning to grow-I cannot see them yet, but I can tell a difference when I touch the area. I am pretty excited about this. Anyway, I have read that a good estimate is 1,000 grafts necessary per Norwood level. Well, I hope i am wrong-=when my doc did mine, he said he usually does about 2,200 for a guy in my shape. I know good and well I am more than Norwood 2. When I had my 1st surgery in 2001, my doc at the time told me I was a 3a or a 4a, so obviously I am not a 2 now. Well, I have looked at images on www.singlehair.com and a guy who got 1,500 grafts looks pretty good, and I would say he is a 5, although I am not a doc nor play one on tv. I am not calling anyone out on this issue, but I was wondering how much I can expect-I know that is difficult b/c I have provided no photo, nor will I.

  3. Since this site is overwhelmingly dominated by males, you may not get much of a response. I would research docs on this site and try them. Good luck
  4. I have had both strip and fue surgeries. I prefer strip because I got a lot more done in less time. Also, if you get a huge fue surgery, you will have little dots in the back of your scalp from all those follicles being removed. You will have a scar either way, but the strip method I had pulled both areas, above and below, the site together so no one notices it now. I can feel it, but I have had my hair cut three times since my surgery, and my barber never noticed it. Just something to think about.
  5. Hey, The label reads, 0.9% sodium chloride irrigation, USP. It is made by Baxter Lab. At first, I saturated some gauze strips with it and let it rest on the recipient area and I also used a little spray bottle, like a small bottle of glass cleaner and sprayed it on it. (Please don't use a windex bottle!) something like that worked well for me.You can probably pick it up at any pharmacy or Wal Mart.
  6. When I had mine, I was given some oral pills-I do not remember if they were xanax or valium, but they took a bit to take effect. I asked for a reduced dosage, and it might have had an effect on the time before I was in a daze. Well< I was numbed uop when the strip was removed, but I was pretty much sober when it was done. The next days, I didn't feel bad, but not really energetic either. I kind of dragged around. I could not wait to get back to normal though. You might want to use a saline rinse to keep your grafts moist-they heal quicker and you return to normal quicker. I never took the prescription pain meds he gave me, but I could have used them once or twice-I made it through with extra strength tylenol.
  7. Well, for what it is worth: 1. If you need to change your hairstyle to cover the work, do it a few days before th esurgery. That way, people will be less likely to notice the work. Wearing a hat is better though. Have a lot to keep you occupied after the surgery-you will get bored. Have some ice packs ready to control swelling. Depending on where ad how muich work you are having done, a head band might be a good idea to keep swelling from falling into your face and eyes. I fell asleep during mine, so a book wouldn't have done me much good.
  8. Thanks for the advice. it surprised me because I have had 3 previous (very small) surgeries, and this did not develop then. They also were growing at 7 weeks.
  9. I am almost 8 weeks post-op. I have had a few pimple-like things appear in the recipient area. I have drained them, cleaned them with peroxide, and they go away after a few days. I called my doctor and he is giving me a prescription for an antibiotic. Does anyone know why I developed this problem 7 weeks after my ht? I followed his instructions closely.

  11. Hi 10 years out, Thanks so much for replying to me again and for telling me about Dr. Lehr and I want to learn more about him since he's closer to me. One question that I had in my mind, is that does Dr. Lehr do Ultra-Refined follicular unit transplantation..... I might be wrong but I think I read somewhere that Ultra-refined Follicular unit transplantation is the most advanced technique today? Once again thank you for everything. I do not really know what you mean by ultra-refined, so I cannot answer that. The front of my head was transplanted with single hair grafts, so I don't think it can be more refined with that. The results are pending, but as I said yesterday, it seems close to beginning to grow, and they are close together and single hairs, so it should be good. In regards to the letter you posted-I am not an employee of any doctor nor have ever been. I hate it if you lose $2,500, but consider what the complete Bosley transplant could cost and see if a procedure from another doctor and the lost Bosley deposit is still less than what your Bosley procedure would cost. I do not know if it is more or less, but it is worth a look. I agree that what someone else said about some things costing more than money. if you want more on Bosley, go to google and type 'bosley complaints' and see what happens. Further, $2,500 seems like a ridicously large sum to hold a surgery date. That is just my opinion though-my procedure cost me $3,000!
  12. There are a few reasons. He is decently close to my home. His prices were the most affordable for me. He uses absorbable sutures, which means no one will find out I went through with this, which for my private personality is good. He uses 100% microscopic disection. This means that his techs take teh donor strip and cut each piece into individual follicles. It is not possible to have a dolls head with this doctor. I am also yet to find a complaitn about him or his staff, something that cannot be said about other places. If you have any further questions, please ask.
  13. Hello, Info about Dr. Lehr http://www.norwood-lehr.com/ I arrived at his office a little before 7 am. I tried to relax some, and then I was called back. Some nurses took photos, looked at me, and then Dr. Lehr came in. He considered my age, family history, and goals. He drew a line and checked it for symmetry. I was given some anti inflammatories, antibiotics, and xanax, I believe it was anyway. I took a few injections and he went to work. The cutting didn't huirt, but I did feel it happening. He sewed me up and then the techs went to work. I did fall asleep during it. I watched a movie, slept, and was kind of out of it throughout the day. They finished around 2 pm. I got a cab. I was able to drive later that day, but some people aren't. I sat around the next two weeks. THis was the hardest part. I never took a pain med, as I do not want to explain to my employer after a drug test, and I don't want to end up an addict. I did a regime of ibuprofen and tylenol, which worked satisfactorily well. He also gives you a headband-wear it. I did have some swelling in my forehead-wearing it should prevent black eyes. My scabs started to fall off after 4 days, but you should leave them alone-he gives a spray to keep them moist, and also you shower lightl;y the next few days. Mine was seven weeks tomorrow. I can see little black dots where the transplants were, so I am hoping some sprout through this week. If you have any more questions, please ask me. BTW, a guy in Tulsa, OK, does a procedure for the same price I had an appointment with him, but then decided to go to Dr. Lehr instead. I recommend you do the same. The other office was very nice to me, but I have heard some bad stuff about him. If you have anything else, please ask.
  14. Power Ranger, I also live in Arkansas. You might try Dow Stough in Hot Springs or go to Oklahoma City to Dr. Blaine Lehr. Dr. Lehr did mine, a good job, very reasonably priced. Dr. Stough is good from what I hear, but his costs are considerably higher. If you want info about Dr. Lehr, provide an email. What area of the state are you?
  15. I did the same. I used an ice pack, but use a cloth between the actual ice and your skin. It helped reduce the swelling it didn't hurt so much. My doc gave me narcotics, but I didn't want to use them. I did a mix of tylenol then ibuprofen which worked acceptably well for me.
  16. 5 1/2 months seems a bit long. I had some growth at 7 weeks in my last ones and am at 6 weeks and a few days since my most recent procedure. I am hoping for something next week. I do understand it varies person to person, but that seems like a long wait.
  17. I had my first one when I could not wear a hat to work. I had the surgery on a Saturday and returned to work on Friday. No one noticed it, but I also kept a low profile. I hope that helps.
  18. Hey, I hate to hear that you are in a difficult spot. I will tell you, I had mine a week ago today, and I look pretty much normal now. Also, if your situation bothers you as it does most people, who cares what others think.
  19. My new doc said 3-6 months before mine begins to grow. The last few times, I noticed regrowth in a little under 8 weeks, although it was very short (expectedly) This time was a strip method. Is there any reason it should take longer to see regrowth?

  21. Another thing, if you don't wear a hat often, start some before the transplant so people don't notice you all of sudden started wearing one and are doing it constantly.
  22. It varies person to person. there are a lot of variables. 1. How much you have before the surgery. 2. THe number of grafts. 3. Your skin color. 4. Individual rate of healing. I had a 1700+ graft procedure done on June 11. About half of my scabs are gone. My doc says 7-14 days befor ethey fall off on their own. He told me to keep them moist with a saline solution he provided, which I think helped dramatically. Also, a mild shampoo 'dotted' around the grafts helps to break them down so you can return to normal sooner. Of course, there is some other stuff, dry skin, different color from the implants, so it will be a while before you are 100% normal, but I hope top be hatless by the end of the week. I hope that helps.
  23. I am 6 days post op and i think i may be going into shock loss. I understand this is temporary, but it is terrifying all the same. Does anyone know the average extent and the length this takes place? Is there anything that I can do to slow or stop it? I have had 3 minor surgeries before this big one, and didn't experience shock loss those times. The previously transplanted hairs are going.

  25. I had surgery on Monday. It is probably a scab only. I had three scabs on my face this am when I awoke, although they were in the very front, which I am sure was just a single hair graft. BTW, I had a 1700+ graft hair transplant done over an area of about 2" x 3". What kind of density can/should I expect in 6 or 8 months? I know it is not easy to answer, but if anyone has a ballpark idea of what I can expect, I would appreciate it. Thanks!
