10 years out

I was a patient of Dr. Lehr on 6/07. My procedure was pretty much exactly as what was listed on his webpage. I felt no pain throughout it, the recovery was quicker than what most people get, although I consider myself a quick healer, post op pain was handled pretty well with ibuprofen and tylenol-he gave narcotic meds, but I try to avoid them. I am at 7 months now, and I cannot tell the new hair from the native hair I had years ago. There is no difference. I get my hair cut in the back very closely, maybe 1/4", and my barber hasn't noticed the scar. He says it takes 12 months to get the end result, so I do not know how much else will come in, but I am very happy now. His prices are very fair, his staff is skilled and kind, and he is an honest, straight forward doc. I would go to him. If you have any questions, please ask.

My scabs began to fall off on day 5, so I guess i was very fortunate. I looked pretty much normal after 14 days.

Hey, Seriously, I would put it off. Also look at male relatives on both sides of your family and see what they are like. You are by no means bad now, and your emotions seem to get the best of you. I went to Dr. Lehr, and they are growing now. I literally cannot tell the difference between a transplanted and an original hair. I cannot say enough good about him.

I think the one exception to this is with identical twins. I guess if you are an identical twin, then your brother couldn't help you much with this anyway.

O, I askec the doc how much I bled through the entire thing, and he said it was about enough to halfway fill a small syringe, 5 cc's of blood, I think. Very minimal.

I have had both procedures. I like strip better. I was afraid of it at first, but you get a lot bigger transplant for your dollar. FUE usually does not require stitches, which I liked as I wanted no one to know I did this. My doc used absorbable, which worked just as well. About strip-it didn't hurt-same as FUE. I just am getting a better result-I am 19 weeks post op now, so the final result isn't here yet. I asked my doc if he could make the strip at the sam epoint as the FUE's were taken, and he said he usually does that to minimize scarring. I get my hair cut close, not a buzz, but close, and the barber is yet to notice it is there. I can barely tell it is there. Keep in mind that there are some variables-the doc who works on you, your skin, etc. It i sdifferent for everyone. I hope that helps.

As some others have previously said-it is different person to person. Well, the sirgery itself did not hurt at all. They usually give relaxation meds which kind of put you in a doze for a while. I felt nothing except the needle sticks from injecting numbing agents. Well, the next day I did feel some pain. My doc gave me narcotics, but I am afraid to use these kinds of drugs. I went with a tylenol/ibuprofen regimen which did the job acceptably well. It is not comfortable, but almost everyone can deal with it. I know what you are feeling as I have been there myself. Most people think after the surgery, 'I worried for nothing.' Best of luck to you.

Dr. Lehr in Oklahoma City charges $3 per follicular unit and is recommended. He did mine.

Hello, I am almost 17 weeks post op. I have noticed some growth in the frontal line, but that is all thus far. I had a large session of nearly 1800 fus, and I cannot tell a lot of improvement in the area to be bulked up. When did you all start to notice a great improvement? Anxiety/haste are taking its toll on me. Thanks

Hey, I don't know of propecia will prevent shock loss. The degree of it also varies, so it doesn't mean you will lose all existing hairs. Usually, hairs lost to shock loss return if they were healthy at the start.

I had mine about the same time as you had yours, and I am probbaly at about hte saem growth stage. I really think you have nothing to worry about in that aspect. I have also pulled a graft. If you would have pulled one, you would have had quite a bit of blook on your scalp from it;it would have been obvious, so you are probbaly set. Yeah, waiting sucks.

Well, you should probably take a good look at your older male relatives. Considering your age, it will probably be extensive, but maybe not a 7. It is important to use meds. If you use Propecia, get a prescription for Proscar and a pill cutter, dividing the pills into quarters. It is a little stronger than propecia and a lot cheaper that way, maybe even cheaper than Rogaine. I would think a good surgeon takes into account your age and what may happen in years to come. I think most docs give some type of guarantee if it doesn't work out-something you should ask. I have never heard of anyone posting on here that they never grew.

Mine are growing now, but not really enough to make a huge improvement. I want to make this as discreet as possible. Any ideas on how I should look at the camera? I know this is an odd question.

Well, You can have staples/sutures removed by your family doc. Some people have spouse, friend, relative, do it, too. My doc used dissolveable sutures, so that was not a concern for me. The scar is there forever, but I have had 4 surgeries, and my barber doesn't notice it, and I cut my hair in back about as long as the width of my index finger. I can barely feel it when i look for it. It will be large for a while, but it lessens with time. The scar is one aspect of finding a good surgeon. A good doc will make it barely noticeable. I know this is very secondary to the final appearance, but it is something to consider. As for the number of grafts, I cannot really say. I would ask the doc that one.

I don't think it helps much with preventing hair loss, but I do think it helps maintain a healthier urinary system. It may also prevent a pretty nasty surgery later in life. A lot of other guys I know do also. I take it for these reasons, and that is all.

Buy proscar and a pill cutter. It is the same active ingredient, but it is in 5 mg strength while the one you bought is 1 mg strength. 5 mg Proscar/4=1.25 milligram strength and 1mg Propecia=1 mg strength. I am sorry to confuse you.

A combo of the two is probably your best option, although I do not know what degree you have. If it is bad, it may offer no benefit. If you go with propecia, ask your doc for proscar, buy a pill cutter, and quarter each pill. The initial cost will be greater, but when one pill equals four doses, it is a considerable savings, especially since you will be on it for the rest of your life. I would go to webmd and that site gives detailed info about teh drugs. I hope this helps.

Yeah, mine was in early/mid June. I am ten weeks post op. I think I can feel them, but can definitely not see them yet. I went to Dr. Lehr in Oklahoma City. He seems to be pretty honest and reliable. He told me he usually does about 2,200 for someone like me, and he usually leaves the crown alone. He also told me it would be a little thinner than the side, but to just have more there is a great improvement. That is kind of hard to accept, but I am not yet 30 years old, so I also have to understand that. I do not know if I will get another surgery; I will have to wait and see.
