  1. Many thanks, I'm very happy with things. The hair care products may provide a lot of that extra concealment too.
  2. These pictures are the front view, 4 days after surgery. My apologies for the poor picture quality. There was no one around to help me take side or back view pictures but I still wanted to give everyone an idea of how things are coming along. I'm now back to my normal hair care routine. The doctor's office advised me that when I wash it,there should be no water streaming directly on it yet. Be gentle and let the shampoo do its job, rather than scrubbing hard. I use conditioner, as well as hair spray and gel. If you compare these to the previous pictures, you can see how well things are coming along. Unless you look closely, it's difficult to see the tiny scabs. There are noticeable differences in the healing process, as opposed to my last surgery 10 years ago. Although it's still a bit tender, the top of my head doesn't have as much numbness as it did last time and I seem to be experiencing far less itching from the scabs for some reason. The suture in the back of my head doesn't hurt, it's just tight where the stiches are.
  3. Thank you for the kind words. I'm hoping for a very dramatic result this time. Certain hairstyles that I wanted to wear were difficult because it was so thin (for instance, the combed forward roman cut). Gaps in the hair look horrible like that. Now, with greater density, other hair styles may become much more feasible. It's my intention to keep everyone up to date on the progress. . If I can help anyone with questions, feel free to send me an email.
  4. These are from my hair transplant on 09-30-11. Dr. Aronovitz of "Tessler and Aronovitz" in Southfield, Michigan did the surgery. This is my 4th surgery. Dr. Tessler did the first three for roughly 2100 grafts. Because of the advance in the last 10 years, they are now able to eliminate more excess tissue and fat, allowing smaller grafts and the ability to concentrate more into a smaller area as well. This is the strip method. The left side of my hairline was becoming very thin and one small area had almost no hair at all, so I especially wanted to concentrate on that area. Today's surgery resulted in 1149 grafts being transplanted. The incision area is sore, as well as the top of my head and the surrounding area. I will probably get the vicodin prescription filled later. The last photo of my hair combed down in the back is after the strip was removed and the hair washed before I left. The cut is virtually undetectable.

    Hair photos

I don't have photos prior to the one in 2004 that accurately show hair loss but I was approximately norwood level 3 and the temple area thinning had started to become aggresive prior to my first hair transplant surgery. 2200 grafts in 15 years, the last surgery was 2002.

  8. The profile picture was taken in 2012. I've have very fine hair and have had 4308 grafts in the last 14 years, the last being in October, 2012. The most recent transplant was for density and to bring the hairline down a bit.

My hair in the photo looks much better then it actually is. The lighting conditions were good and I manage to cover thin and balding spots fairly well but I use a lot of "mega hold" type of hair spray and a thick gel.

If everything goes well and I'm able to achieve the good, strong hairline that I want, I'll be able to feel comfortable enough to stop using almost all of those products.

I've been taking propecia for at least the last 12 years and I highly recommend it. I'm also a believer in supplemental vitamins.

There is a product called "Hair Force" by KAL that I've been using for about the last 6 months or so. It has a long list of ingredients and isn't terribly expensive, so I've been taking that. I'm not sure how well it's working or contributing to growth but I figure it can't hurt.

The other supplemental vitamins I use are Niacin, Biotin, Iron and on occasion, Shen Min.

  9. Thank you for the compliments. My HT's were performed by Dr. Tessler in Southfield, Michigan. http://www.tessler.com/whytessler_12.htm To add, I do not work for them or receive compensation for anything from them. I just posted the link because of my results and positive experience. My hair loss was a devastating thing as most of us on this forum can attest too. I knew I didn't want to go the toupee route and Rogaine didn't work for me, so although it was considerably expensive, it was worth every penny. My neurologist initially suggested him as a possibility, so I did my research and liked what I read and the photos I saw and went there. It was pricey (over 12k in 3 transplants) but worth every penny to me.
  10. I couldn't find a picture that could accurately show how bad the thinning was prior to my first transplant. This picture was taken 2 years ago after 3 transplants and being on propecia. My major areas of thinning were the temple area and toward the front of the scalp. The picture was taken from slightly above (I was sitting down) and the light seems to show the hairline thinner that it really is.
  11. I highly recommend AGAINST using Rogaine. Before I had my first transplant, I tried the Rogaine method. Aside from being messy, At best, I had fuzz. I called the manufacturer and ask them directly if I stopped taking it, would I lose additional hair. The response was that I wouldn't, only that which I had gained. This was complete BS. When I stopped using it, not only did I lose what I had gained, areas that had begun to thin prior to use, became much more noticeable and I'm convinced that it accelerated the loss in areas that had been only thinning previously. I used it only a few months and that was enough for me. In the last 9 years, I've had a total of 2200 grafts and have been on propecia off and on for the last 5 years but steadily for the last 3. After my last transplant, I used propecia at the same time and to me, it was noticeably better growth using it at the same time. My advice: Save the money you would be spending on Rogaine and either start using propecia or save it toward transplants.
