I hope Dr. Nader really lives up to the hype because it seems people violently disagree on who the best surgeons are and some will even say "Oh they're not very good and just cherry pick their results". I don't want to lose my faith in hair surgeons and give up my dream of getting a nice hairline.
Everyone's opinion on who the best hair transplant Dr is will be different, so you're not going to find a number one best. Dr Nader is a fine Dr and odds are you will turn out looking great. Everyone gets nervous when the surgery date starts getting closer.

It's hard to tell how the donor is because there is a lot of gray hairs in there and at such a short length you can't really see them good enough.
-
I think I missed this one before. That hair line looks incredible!

Looks great. Thanks for posting an update.

Welcome to our forums. Thank you for posting about your journey so far. I'm glad you did the proper research and didn't end up at a cheap hair mill hoping to save some money. You made a good choice. It looks good so far. Keep us updated.

The donor area looks great. I want to see this in another few months to see how well it turns out.

Density - My density is a little low but I'm only 7 months in and have fine hair. I believe any lack of density is due to my circumstances and nothing to do with Nader's work. Also, we were fairly conservative with 3k grafts.
You had practically no hair at all in the entire front half, so for 3000 grafts it looks very good. Could you have gotten more grafts? I personally would have wanted a slightly lower hair line, but that would have required another 1000 grafts probably.

Hair growth is kicking in early. This already looks like it's going to be a great result. I hope it is. I like the hair line. It has just enough irregularity to not look like a straight line.

This is really something that I think needs to be discussed with Dr Pitella probably just before and during the surgery because being a NW 7 with only a small amount of scalp donor and using lots of beard donor, you really don't know how dense you're going to be able to get even if you used up as much grafts as possible. You may have to decide at the time you're going through the process because some of this is going to depend on whether he will be able to get either more or less grafts than he estimated and if you need either more or less than he estimated. I'd let him be aware that you'd rather be more full in the frontal half and are willing to leave the crown low density if he can't get enough to give full coverage everywhere or if he reaches a certain amount of grafts due to your budget or because you want to save some for later or don't want to be depleted.
With that said, at 52 and a NW 7 I'm guessing you'd be thrilled to have a rather full front half even if you're still very thin in the crown. Be aware though that hair greed hits a lot of us and you'll probably eventually be wanting to go back for another session to try to get enough grafts to fill in the crown anyway, so keep that in mind.

It's not an issue. Some Drs don't even shave the area being transplanted. It's fine if surrounding hair lays on the grafts. just be careful with combing to make sure you don't grab any of the grafts with your comb or brush.

4600 grafts is a lot to take out. It doesn't look like you had a great donor area to begin with, but at least they used a large extraction area, so even if it ends up a bit thin once it all heals and the shock loss grows back in, you shouldn't have an obvious thin patch anywhere. You just have to wait several months to see how well it fills in.

Thanks for posting these pics because everyone wants to know what the FUE scars will look like if they shave down. Yours looks pretty good. Based on the pictures I don't think a casual observer would notice anything . It's only the guys who had FUE or have been researching it and looking at tons of donor area pictures who would spot it.

This is actually looking very good for 5 months. At 5 months you still have a decent amount of growing left, so it will certainly still improve from here.
-
One possibility: Transplanting hair into areas that already have some hair can seem to take longer to grow than areas that were transplanted where no hair was growing because you get some shock loss of the hair that was already there in the thinning areas. At 5 months where you are now, the hairline hair where there wasn't anything may be growing in nicely, but the other areas may look like they are just getting back to what it was pre transplant because the hair that was shed is just growing back along with the transplanted hair.

You chose a great Dr. I'm glad you took your time to look for the right choice for yourself. Please do update us on the progress over the next few months.

What would be great is if you could post a picture from the mid to late 90s after the HT and a picture now, so we can compare how well (or not) the hair transplant held up. The long term results are something a lot of people are interested in seeing.

Is there a reason you don't want to do FUT? You already have an FUT scar. If you did another FUT they would extract additional grafts along the same scar line assuming the FUT strip was taken in a proper location the first time. You would end up with only one scar in the same location.
I will also assume you are in the NY area since your HT was done in 1995. Traveling far for a HT wasn't really a thing then. Besides Dr Bloxham there is Dr Carlos Wesley on 70th street in Manhattan or Dr Robert Dorin in Garden City NY.

This is looking pretty good for the 3 month mark.

You should be fine. Believe it or not, in the old days the clinic used to give you a bottle of hydrogen peroxide and a bottle of rubbing alcohol and you were supposed to dab them on the grafts and strip scar until the scabs come off and the sutures or staples come out.

After 11 weeks would you expect to see more hair than this? It looks very sparse to me.
No. That looks about right. You are just about hitting the 3 month point and that’s usually when the growth is just starting.

You have some good coverage over the front half. Do you have a picture from before the hair transplant? You went with a high hair line so you should be in good shape even if you get more hair loss.
-
Looks like it really thickened up. It looks great.

There are a number of people who had thousands of beard grafts transplanted to their scalp. Are you asking if there are any cases or ONLY beard hair to scalp on NW 7 patients without using scalp donor? Are you asking if anyone has taken all (or near) 100% of their beard hair out to transplant it?
@Gatsby has used a LOT of beard grafts, but he also used plenty of scalp grafts as well. Myself, I've used over 3000 beard grafts and over 3000 chest grafts.

3 months is early, so don't get depressed. An itchy scalp is common after a hair transplant and can last for months. It's certainly annoying. Keep using Nizoral shampoo a couple of times per week. If Nizoral is helping, but you still have some issues, you can use it 3 or4 times per week if you need to.
