  1. Sanjar you have been through hell my friend. I am super happy you won the free transplant with Dr Mohebi. Yours is not an easy case and it speaks volumes about his compassion as a surgeon and a person to do the repair.

Could not agree with you more. Dr. Mohebi was just another HT surgeon before, but when he accepted the challenge to do this repair, gratis, he became one of the good guys in an industry that needs more people like him.

  2. I just read a review of a Dr. M in Turkey on RealSelf.com and was shocked at how the patient was treated, even in the worst of situations in the U.S. you would not have been treated like this guy was. No one spoke English, Dr. M. was not at all responsive, and instead of his surgery starting at 9:00 AM it started at 3:00 PM. On the day after surgery they squeezed six patients from the hotel into a mid sized sedan for a cleaning and followup visit. And to top it off the doctor did not follow the patients request on his hairline and he is complaining of a bad result. Of course no one is answering his emails.

Is it a gamble? All these surgeries are a gamble, but surgery in Turkey is a much larger risk than elsewhere. You want to save money, just remember, you might end up with what you paid for.

  3. This looks good, and not to be overly critical, but the blending with the sides and top is perfect on this patients right side, however, on his left side, there is a distinctive line above his ear, about halfway up, that shows too much contrast between dark and light, and further up onto the scalp it looks a tad too dark.

The trick to any successful result is to not have too much ink, and I think this is illustrated well on the patients right side. I can't say the same for the other side. Crown looks excellent.

  4. I just read through all 26 pages and had to create an account to reply.

To be honest, I've been wanting hair restoration for the last few years, after reading this horror story I'm terrified. My heart goes out to OP, I can only imagine what this feels like.

This so called "doctor" should be jailed, because what he's done should be considered criminal. Forget a refund, it's not even about the money anymore. What has happened is nearly irreversible. Find a good lawyer that will take your case. This clinic owes you a professional repair from a top surgeon, whatever that cost may be. He also owes you for emotional and mental distress. And of course attorney fees and your initial $5000. I see this case well over $100,000.

Settling for your initial refund is a joke and a slap in the face. Bankrupt his ass and jail him.

Like others have said, create a class action lawsuit. Get the news involved.

Absolutely. A class action lawsuit is the best way to go after this clinic, however, the reason most of the victims of this butcher chose him in the first place is price, and legal representation is not cheap.

Personally, speaking, I pay $20.00 a month thru my employers legal plan to have low cost or no cost legal representation available to me if I ever needed it, and it would be nice if a victim of this clinic had a similar means available to them. The right personal injury lawyer may take on this claim without any cost, of course, until the judgement has been settled. Definitely should happen, for the sake of the victims and to prevent future harm to unsuspecting patients.

  5.

Cases don't get more complicated than mine did (through no fault of Dr. Umar's practice), but the outcome has already been outstanding, with 220 more hairs to grow for perfect refinement. And as a fifty-year-old dude now (good lord), I could not have asked for a better outcome.

Trust me, cases get a lot more complicated than yours, have you seen some of the repairs Dr. Umar has pulled off? I mean, hideously disfigured patients have gone through multiple sessions using every available donor source (beard, chest, leg, arm, etc) and he has brought these grotesquely butchered patients back from the dead. Yours was a stroll thru the park.

Glad you are happy, Dr. Umar does outstanding hairline work, I love mine.

  6. Like a lot of people getting their first HT, it sounds as if you've barely done any research. You are talking about altering your appearance, and the results will be permanent. To think that you are going in blind with a doctor you know very little about is an incredibly risky move, and one that forums like this one are intended to prevent.

You only can make an informed decision after you have done the requisite level of research. You haven't. Don't choose someone based solely on how close they are to you. However, there are some good doctors near where you live, as has been mentioned. I'll assume you are doing strip, and have not researched FUE. It's a good idea to know the difference between these two types of procedures, it at least means you've done some homework before jumping into someones chair.

  7. Hello, my hair is more like my leg hair and arm hair rather than beard hair. Are there any reputable doctors apart from Dr Umar that perform body hair transplants from leg hair and arm hair please? I will travel to America and see Umar if I have to but live in Europe so it's quite far. All replies are appreciated. Thank you.

The only doctor that I know of who can actually get you results (i.e., growth) from arm hair or leg hair is Dr. Umar. There are other doctors performing non-scalp HT's who would be willing to use arm hair or leg hair, but they have not documented any successes doing so.

It's a real gamble to rely on your leg hair and arm hair, their growth rates are notoriously inconsistent. If anyone can do it competently (meaning using other sources to give you coverage and a natural looking result) than Dr. Umar is your best option, by far.

If you lived in Europe (or closer to Europe than the U.S.) then I might suggest Dr. Bisanga, but if you are intent on using something other than beard hair, you should only see Dr. Umar.

BTW, I have had 5000 beard grafts added to my scalp by Dr. Umar, and it proved to be a lifesaver for my appearance. I'm very happy with how it turned out.

  8. Great news, I hope this tragic beginning has a happy ending. No matter the outcome, it will be 100% better than it is presently. Best of luck to Sanjar, and many thanks to Dr. Mohebi for graciously taking on this challenging repair.

  9. Great thread, I totally agree with Dr. Charles about regulations regarding FUE be done only by MD's and PA's. Man, even in the best, most qualified hands these procedures can go wrong, but in someones hands who is not qualified, someones life can get ruined.

Even in the internet age, many men are simply too lazy or too clueless to do their diligent research and make an informed decision. I see it on forums all the time. I only wish the internet had sites like this one when I first got butchered (by an MD with impressive credentials and NO ability to create a natural head of hair)

  10. I said in an earlier post on this thread that you received between 400 to 500 grafts and they look to be around 3mm grafts. I've had various ranges from 2mm to 3.75mm grafts years ago and I've had 1mm and 1.1mm more recently. I will stick with my original assessment that these look like around 3mm grafts.

Now that he has admitted that you only received 483 grafts, is he giving you a refund of $4034? If you were paying $2 per graft, 483 grafts comes to $966. You gave him $5000, so he owes you $4034. If he refuses to pay you, then you need to do what I said in my earlier post and sue for consumer fraud as that is exactly what that is. He is ripping you off. You have not gotten what you paid for. You don't even need to get into whether they grew or what size they were. Certainly you should threaten to sue first, so it doesn't cost you any lawyers fees, but if that doesn't work, then go through with it and find a consumer fraud lawyer.

This is excellent advice, and I urge you to take legal action against this clinic. If you have in writing that they did not give you the grafts you paid for, they owe you a refund. You should not only sue this clinic for the consumer fraud they committed, but for the medical malpractice they committed.

Look, this is not a complicated case. All you need is to find a lawyer who is sympathetic to your case and who you can convince to represent you, who will take this case to court and not receive payment until the case is settled. He can find another doctor to testify on your behalf that they committed medical malpractice and you have the pictures to PROVE they committed medical malpractice.

You did NOT receive an FUT or FUE surgery, you received PLUG surgery, which is an outdated technique no longer practiced. You have the pictures to PROVE it. If you can convince a reputable doctor to simply explain in court that this technique is barbaric by 2016 standards, you are halfway there. It's worth noting that you have to explain this to your personal injury lawyer, as they are likely not aware of the intricacies of the HT business.

This is an excellent case to litigate, and no one deserves to be taken to court more than this clinic. I urge you to move forward with this case.

  11. This place is truly the house of horrors, luckily for you they did not do FUE, otherwise you'd have pits in your head the size of pumpkin seeds. You have my vote for Mohebi's next free transplant.

The problem is that he does not have the donor to hide the grafts they sprinkled all across the top of his head. Another HT is not really an option at this point, a full removal and working on scar repair is really the only way forward.

Any surgeon with a clue knew the approach they took on him wouldn't work, and I don't think this was a mistake, I think it was a deliberate attempt to get more visits by this guy, and I'm guessing this is the clinic's M.O.

They are committing fraud and medical malpractice, and no one can do a damn thing about it. That's why this entire industry is so corrupt, they know they can get away with this.

  12. Look closer. It's pitted, raised, and scarred. It's not nearly as horrible as the donor area, but still bleeds from all the bumps when I shave it.

But yeah, I saw their "fue", holy hell.

You are probably going to want to explore repair options. I can see they (probably deliberately) added far too few grafts in both the crown and frontal scalp, which they intentionally know needs more work, and they hope more visits from you.

You now have to come up with a plan for repair. The scarring in the back is going to need a combination of beard hair and SMP, in my opinion. I have numerous strip scars in back and this combination had proven success for me. There is no substitute for adding hair to the scarring, the SMP serves as a compliment to further hide the scar. Beard hair is king in scar repair.

The top of your scalp is another story, I would think that the addition of further hair is a not an option, you were never a candidate for a full restoration. I would think the reversal route is your best option. That could mean electrolysis or having them surgically removed, which means more scarring. Good luck on whatever route you choose.

  13. Question for all, including mods: is there a petition process or something you can file with the BBB that will formally place this clinic under review? I feel like we all want to help shut this place down with all the horror stories but we're sitting idle hoping things will change.

I'd be happy to help. Sure others would as well. Maybe the mods can put together a petition for signatures to send to the state. Any lawyers on here?

The mods on this forum could care less. These websites exist, first and foremost, to make money. Secondly they serve a useful place to exchange results, post warnings, vet potential doctors, etc., etc., but the HT industry remains the Wild West, and you ride into town knowing there is no Sheriff there to help you. You are on your own, outside of whatever online support people will offer you.

  14. Between May 2006 and July 2009, I had two flaps, several scalp reductions and hundreds of micro grafts. This was carried out by Dr Richard Fleming at Beverly Hills, California. The results are 'terrible'. All this surgery has cost me about ?40,000. I was not a suitable candidate prior to all this. I believe their incentive was financial. I'm very annoyed and depressed. Can anybody advise me how I might be able to get a refund from these scam artists?

Sorry to hear about your experience, it's hard to give advice without being able to assess your present state, do you have any pictures of your condition?

  15. You guys need to start documenting your experience with the Better Business Bureau, this really is an excellent organization and their website is very easy to use. I had excellent results the one time I used it about an outstanding bill with T Mobile, where they were trying to screw me.

Coming onto internet forums and sharing these experiences might deter a few people, but they need their horror stories documented and recorded, and their rating will reflect this. Be specific as possible, without any mention of how it has effected your life. They only want to know how your result is different than what this clinic promises. Don't make someone sift thru pages of a sob story, but be detailed as possible on how their promises were false, and the more people who share their story, the better it reveals a pattern of abuse.

  16. Well price certainly isn't my only consideration which is why I'm spending the time in these forums trying to educate myself. Also, as I mentioned above, I am primarily looking into Mexican clinics now which is indeed outside of the US.

Maybe I really don't understand how this works but price is a large concern and if it turns out that I just can't afford it well then I guess I'll just stay bald which sucks but hopefully I can find a reputable clinic in my price range somewhere out there.

Everything I'm reading about Dr Nadal seems very promising so far...there are some other clinics which look hopeful but I can't find much info out there on them which feels pretty sketchy.

Of course price is a consideration, it is for the vast majority of us who get a HT, but if you think being bald sucks, wait until you are disfigured. All I can say is the two are incomparable and completely dissimilar.

If you gamble with getting it done cheaply, don't be surprised if you spend a decade trying to get it repaired and spending far more in the end achieving a natural looking result.

That is, of course, if a natural looking result will be possible to achieve. This particular thread should be posted for at the top of the forum and serve as a warning to the uninitiated.
