No it was me actually, I thought having thick hair would make me a great candidate, but it turns out that in Coutos opinion, medium thickness, rather than coarse thick hair is better, because there is more to chose from for the hairline. Second, his worry with dense packing it, was the fact that graft survival is arguably more important than having loads of hair packed into a small area, because you can always add more later, and arguably having more hair survive when implanted, means that you also dont need to harvest the donor area for more grafts to have a similar impact.

ah got it, thanks for clarifying. i wonder how the doctors assess what is the correct amount

i might have missed it but how much density did you receive per cm^2?

  2. Hey OP congrats on the procedure. looks like he did an excellent job with the design. I was intrigued with the statement below

"this is for two reasons, one is blood supply, the thicker the hair, the more blood is needed and the more that hairs compete for blood supply, this placing more hairs densely packing it risks a lower yield. Second is the problem with the hairline, a hairline requires soft hairs, that makes the progression natural, and so having thick hair is great for behind the hairline, but not so great for arguably the part that everyone notices at first."

Was he originally saying that he thought thick hair would be great but its not for hairline because of blood needed to supply the hair and dense packing causes lower yield? If that is the case then how did he dense pack your area, it looks clean

  3. @Doron HaratiThank you for the reply. I have read that generally speaking one can get more from a combination of FUT and FUE. I have also seen recommendations of possibly 1-2 FUT and then FUE maximizes donor. Some doctors even suggest the survival rate is a lot more in FUT but I have read arguments on both sides.

I don't know if I understood you correctly but did you agree that the skin in the back of the head will shrink with a second FUT?

  4. Hi all,

I have been doing more research on hair transplants — I have noticed that some doctors will perform the entire surgery themselves while others have a team that will implant the hairs. If the doctor does the extraction of grafts and incisions, does it increase the survival rate of the grafts or can the procedure still produce unfavorable results due to improper techniques used by the technicians that implants the grafts? If so how can one tell whether the technicians did a good job with the angle and proper technique etc. I read that few signs would be red scarring inflammation but don't know. Can a patient request the training certifications of the technicians? What if surgery doesn't go as well can the patient pursue legal action?

Apart from that I am considering either another FUT or an FUE. If I do another FUT does that shrink or push up the skin in the back of the head making it seem like there is less hair in total length?

Thanks for the replies in advance!

Above 3000 grafts but it really depends on your situation and your future needs. If you dont mind having a scar on the back of your head and you have as absolutely priority to save more grafts for future use then fut is the way to go. But once again for a small procedure with 1500 grafts for the hairline its always better to go with fue. Transection rate it depends from the clinic you choose, if you choose a good doctor the transection rate both with fue or fut is preety low nowadays.

Thanks @jjalay I already have a scar from my first procedure where I received close to 2k grafts. I don't know if its better to save the second strip for a future procedure if i ever need one for my crown. Part of me is concerned because I feel 1600 is too small but at the same time i experienced lower yield growth. I had it done at a reputable doctor so that isn't the issue

  6. Hi all,

I have been looking into FUT vs FUE for my second surgery on my hairline and wanted to get more experienced members input. I have gone to consultations with different doctors and one recommended fut over fue more over potential yield growth. While this could be biased, the other doctor said it wouldn't matter with either method.

If I go with FUT, wouldn't it have the disadvantage of not being able to chose singles doubles triples? I figured I would be stuck with whatever comes from the strip unless there is a way to split doubles into singles. What should i request when strategizing the placement of different hairs. I only have a recession

    Thanks!

Sorry you had to go through this. There are so many better doctors out there than Bloxham. I’m not surprised you had graft failure. I know someone else who went to him and didn’t have grafts take. I myself am looking for someone to revise the work he did on me. I paid for their “expertise” and at this point I wished I flew to Türkiye and saved a ton and would have received better results.

can you share your experience? feel free to PM me

  8. thanks all

@Dr. Glenn Charles I can cover my back fine but the work will be for my hairline. I could comb it down but it looks a bit strange to be honest. Speaking of FUE, Doc from your experience does growth yield differ from between FUT vs FUE? If I have had an FUT, would you think its ok to go FUE? I know there are many variables at play... I have good donor and only need to fix my hairline for now.

@Gatsby so you go out with no hat and use your own coverage?

  9. Hello all,

This is my first post on the forum. I need to have a second transplant and wanted to get people's opinion on how they dealt with the recovery. I had to wear a hat for about 1 year and the thought of that is very tiring. I basically have to watch 1 year of my life go by without being able to enjoy things. It took a huge toll on my mental well-being

    Appreciate your advice
