  1. Hello, I have been on Finasteride/Minoxidil for almost 6 months now. I’ve had some minor shedding in the last month or so but my hair overall has gotten thicker so I think it’s working albeit maybe slower than others. i recently took a picture of the back of my head freshly out of the shower and noticed a small bald spot that I normally don’t see. This could be because my hair is longer and I don’t pay attention much but I was wondering if this was an early sign of crown loss. I added a couple other photos to show what my hair looks like normally.
  2. Hello, I have been on 2.5 mg of oral min and 1mg of finasteride for around 4.5 months at this point. No side effects whatsoever and I think I’m shedding a little as of now. One of the big things that I’m insecure about is my right side has some slight retrograde and I don’t know if I can thicken it up with my current regiment. For any of you with retrograde has oral min and finasteride helped you at all?
  3. That’s the plan for now. I like lurking on the forum to learn. My number one goal is maintaining the hair I have cause it’s much easier than regrowing what I have lost. when I’m in my mid to late 20s I’ll reassess and see if a HT is necessary. (Assuming hair loss stabilizes any everything else is in order).
  4. I’m not trying to be a troll. I’m sorry if it’s coming off that way. I’m just insecure being a young person beginning to lose their hair.
  5. I have a receding hairline. Around a NW2.5 to 3 I would say. Again I’m too young for a HT at the moment so my goal is to stabilize my hair loss and prevent any further hair loss so I don’t reach a higher Norwood.
  6. Hello, I have been on Oral Minoxidil and Finasteride for 3 months. Too early to see results but I feel like it is thickening up the back and sides of my head. (Still hoping for growth at the temples). I will take this medication for the indefinite future but I am too young for the HT at the moment.
  7. What is the minimum age for a hair transplant in your opinion?

    1. LaserCaps

      LaserCaps

It all depends.  Maturity level does play a bit into this.

Moving fwd when you're too young is something that has been discussed ad nauseam. Doctors will typically want to avoid doing anything until the pattern reveals itself.  An example I like to bring up is one of a young man who's in the process of maturing his hairline.  He convinces a doctor to fill in the temporal areas which are currently in the middle of his forehead.  The patient is destined to lose all the hair on top within 10 years.  He'd be left with two horns worth of hair and nothing else.  It would be nice if we had a hair crystal ball from time to time.

But you can also consider a young man, say 19, with already a very advanced pattern.  Why would you wait?  (In cases similar to this the first thing that's typically recommended is the use of medical modalities to help the patient retain and enhance the native hair.  A year later, depending on the outcome, and if the patient has available donor, he might be able to do something.

Lastly, consider the non surgical program. We know testosterone is what drives guys and this is broken into DHT which we know is an irritant to the follicle.  But DHT is important in early development.  So, when it's the right time to prescribe these to a patient.  Early 20's?

Difficult question if you think about it.  It all depends on the situation.

  8. I am 21 and noticed I’ve been losing my hair for a few years now. I don’t know on the Norwood scale where I would lie im taking finasteride and oral minoxidil to try and stop future hair loss and maybe grow back some thining areas
  9. What Norwood level would you say I’m at now. Would the meds be able to halt the hair loss
  10. Hello Everyone. I am a 21M with around a NW2.5 hair loss. I have recently started Finasteride and Oral Minoxidil to try and stabilize my hair loss and maybe grow some hair back. What would be a good age for a Hair Transplant if that is needed? Any suggestions on what I should do. I am committed 100 percent to preserving my hair. I don’t want to be a NW6-7 if I can help it.
