  1. Here’s the thing: we’re talking about thinning of hair transplants being impacted by the location into which the hair is transplanted. There are separate blog sections for non surgery related options, including the use of medications. So you are confirming that hair transplants don’t last a lifetime and do in fact thin. It may be worth it to get a hair transplant with the knowledge that it may thin. What I’m trying to do is gather as much information as possible. also, people thing while using medication, so isn’t it possible to thin in the transplant region while also medicating? Also curious about low dose minoxidil: what dosage are you on? I’m considering trying low dose 2.5 mg and micro-needling which has shown efficacy in early studies.
  2. That’s fair. I wasn’t watching the video for the blood flow theory or whatever. I was more wondering about HTs being impacted by the location in which they are transplanted. And what that looks like years later. Interestingly, he suggested that some research suggests that the larger punch grafts, larger than 2 centimeters as done back in the day may be more resilient than individual follicle transfers because of the impact of transferring more tissue and more follicles together. I don’t anything about that, but I’m curious, have you had another hair transplant since 87? How has that gone for you? thanks for your time your prior response!
  3. I mean someone doesn’t have to have a hair transplant or hair loss or understand research. And the guy, who I don’t follow or know at all, doesn’t come out against hair transplants all together. He does seem to have some solid research here that he’s quoting. But it’s worth noting, as the guy who made the prior post which I include here noted, that hair transplants may not actually last forever. And that thinning may actually occur over time. I’m just curious whether any members have individual experiences to share about how their HTs are faring years later.
  4. Thanks @Surfarosa I watched this convincing video on the subject of whether transplants last, since I’m a NW6 at 38 and have been actively considering a procedure. The video didn’t say it wasn’t worth getting the work done, as many people retain a lot of hair, rather that the site does impact the follicles and that thinning is absolutely likely to occur. My situation is complicated by the fact that I have a narrow donor area and so future hts may not be an option. I just made a post in the questions forum asking people to post results several years later, and then started searching around which is how I found you. So thanks for posting your story. I don’t actually think it’s speculation at this point - it does appear that hts thin due to the sites impact on follicles. have you learned any more since this post? Have you looked into or considered micro-needling with topical minoxidil? I’ve hear that this combo has incredible results. currwntly weighing options - nervous but not scared away. anyway, appreciate your post man. Take care.
  5. I was listening to this Video on whether hair transplants last, and most places I read about donor dominance and that HTs last. This video has some interesting data on the site of the transplant having an impact on the transplanted follicles. In other words, the location can impact the follicles, and thus lead to thinning of transplanted hair. Are there folks on here who have had their transplants for years that would be willing to speak to this? I’ve been told I have a narrow donor area, but that I can do a 3000 fut procedure, and then a year later fill in with fue, but am concerned about doing that and then having it all be for not years later. thanks for your thoughts!
  6. Would still love to know what others think, please feel free to comment.
  7. Thanks for your thoughts Ryan. I’ve got some consultation requests out. Initial indication is that I have a narrowed donor area, as y’all have suggested. Waiting on a response to more photos. I’ll let y’all know what I’m told✌️
  8. Thanks G - appreciate your feedback. I uploaded another couple of photos of the donor area. I am starting to appreciate that that is a bit of a concern for me. Let me know what you think of the other photos I posted. Thanks again for chiming in!
  9. Thanks for your opinion on this, and this is very concerning to hear. I’ve take another couple of shots of my donor area. I appreciate your taking a look.
  10. Thanks very much Z! I’ll check out those two docs and add them to the list. Appreciate the feedback.
  11. How come Mike? I’ve seen plenty of people more far gone, who have achieved great results.
  12. Hey Gatsby, thanks for the lengthy response. Travel is not necessarily an issue, though I do feel I want to stay in the United States or Canada. I did a deep dive on the hair transplant network after this post and check out all the NW6 journal entries and the doctors who performed the best looking ones. Ive reached out to Konior, Bernstein, Hasson, and Cooley. All those guys are relatively local and seem to achieve incredible results, mostly through the use of microscopic implantation and personally conducting the surgery rather than having techs conduct them. Are there others I should be looking at that are near? My goal is to have thick hair density in the front and mid, with some thinning and balding being fine in the crown. The most important thing for me is that I achieve a natural looking hairline that doesn’t have a pluggy look. My understanding is that the use of microscopes, with specific attention to the direction of the hair follicle in its placement are key to achieving realistic results - is that your understanding? I have lots of thick hair on the sides - does this mean I have a good donor area? What determines the donor area quality? Trying to drown out the negative at the moment. Appreciate the encouragement.
  13. Hey Everyone, I’ve been looking at all your posts on here for years and finally have decided that I really do want my hair back. I miss it, and if I can achieve results that don’t look like plugs, then I’m really all the way in. Thanks to all yall who posted and have given me the courage to do the same. I’m 38 and started balding in my 20s and by the time I was 30, it was different versions of what I have going on now. I would say this is a Norwood 6, but any clarification from anyone who knows more than me is appreciated. I want to stay in the United States, but am at least open to the idea of traveling. a few opening questions I have are: 1) what can serious balding like mine expect from a transplant? I don’t want the Lebron effect, and I have very coarse, thick curly hair. 2) what are some of the leading clinics in the United States, and do any of these focus on nw6? 3) am I correct in stating that I have a nw6? 4) does anyone have any experiences they can share of ethnic hair success stories, or of success stories with this level of balding in the USA preferably? thanks for any of your insights. Excited to embrace the journey! As I told my wife, it’s less about being happy, and more about missing that old friend who moved away. I live fine without seeing them, I’d just prefer them living nearby! Thanks!
