  1. Pictures might help some. I can only go by what my Dr. told me. I'm 44 and he told me that my hair is "fairly stable " since I haven't lost much in 5 years probably. He recommended Fin 1mg 3x a week but ultimately told me it was optional. He said to really prevent future loss he recommended it. Offered Surgery either way. I decided to try Fin 1mg daily as I misunderstood his 3x a week regimen and my local Dr wrote it daily. I was definitely having side effects from it but stayed on it for probably 3-4 months. I contacted my Dr. and he told me that at my age/stability I didn't need it daily. I reduced to 2-3x a week. I still haven't noticed any difference in my hair, but I guess if it's retaining hair, how would I. My side effects are definitely less now. Been on a total of about 8-9 months now. Maybe someone else can help you more with this other medicine.
  2. Glad to hear you're seeing something already. Looking forward to seeing your update next month. I fly out Friday for surgery next week with Dr. Ferreira. I'll start a thread soon. Hopefully all goes well. Did they serve you breakfast? Or should I eat prior to surgery? I know they have a really good pastry shop across the street too but just wondering what they did.
  3. Actually I just looked it up. On his website it seems like I can select fast track, it is 50€. Click consultation then you'll see a button for fast track. I would just post a link but I'm not sure if it is acceptable here. Either way it's easy enough to find.
  4. I agree it looks similar to Rowlandas. Maybe do the fast track for Dr. Ferreira. The cost is minimal and it's a fairly detailed analysis. I think that you will require 2 surgeries but at 30 years old, stabilization of your hair will need to take place first.
  5. I would post some pictures. I'm rather new to this but I chose Dr. Ferreira. He does have a Fast Track option for about 50€ I believe where he replies in a day or two. I'm not sure he's the best option for NW6 though. I keep hearing Eugenix is but other can add input on this. I would suggest doing lots of research and narrow down to 2 or 3, then get consultations.
  6. Unfortunately I believe most would require a down payment just to get on the list. At least this was my experience. The clinics I contacted provided me with potential dates, but couldn't lock them in until you paid about 1k€. Good luck in your search though.
  7. I changed it and got lucky getting 1st class for a really good deal. I'll now travel on my 6th day after surgery. I can't stay 10 days so this should be enough.
  8. Appreciate it, I'm going to look into adding a few extra days I guess.
  9. Appreciate the input. Did you notice swelling on day 3? Mind me asking who did your surgery?
  10. Hi, I'm sure this has been covered before but I couldn't find it in the search. I'm traveling out to Porto Portugal from the US on Jan 8th, landing January 9th. Covid test on Jan 10th, then surgery on 11th and 12th with Dr Ferreira. I'm currently scheduled for return flight on Jan 16th at 6am. This is basically 3.5 days after surgery. After reading some posts, I'm under the impression that swelling just sets in on day 3 which has me worried. I also didn't want to look ridiculous (not that i expected to be completely healed) or be bleeding on a plane seat as I feel that is unsanitary. Would it be worth staying longer, as I believe I can easily extend my stay 1 or 2 more days with minimal cost. I'm just concerned with 20 hrs of travel so soon afterwards. Does anyone have input or experience on this? Of course there's nothing like your own bed after something like this. Maybe I'm over-thinking this too, as this is becoming a reality. Thanks!
  11. I just wanted to chime in here because I too live in the New Orleans area. You are young and probably don't realize the importance of selecting a good surgeon, so I'm going to tell you an ankle story that I'll hopefully tie into HT 😆. 6 years ago I broke my ankle. I had emergency surgery in a New Orleans area hospital. My surgeon messed up and put a screw in wrong, placing it into my tendon, instead of hitting bone. Long story short, I went to almost every ankle surgeon in our area, including Baton Rouge. Had 2 additional surgeries and everyone told me that nothing was wrong. I could barely walk almost 2 years later and i was losing my mind because every Dr dismissed me. Finally, I researched the best Ankle Dr's I could find in the US. Luckily, I found one, located in Houston. This Dr gave me my life back when he found and repaired the problem in what was my 4th surgery. 6 weeks ago I needed Achilles repair on my other Ankle. I drove to Houston again, without hesitation, to see the best Dr knew. Most people would have this surgery done locally without a second thought. Most people wouldn't have much of an issue either. But ask yourself what an elite athlete would do? I'd be willing to bet that they would pick a top Dr to provide them with the best chance of success. They wouldn't trust a random Dr that nobody has heard of, because their career is on the line. Elite Dr's have more time performing the surgery, likely teach others, and have seen more cases. This experience is critical. A trip to see a top Dr is not always easy, I'll give you that. But in any field, a select few are considered the best at what they do. If you want the best chance at a great result, I'd look elsewhere. Now for HT, which I know is not the same as ankle surgery. I went on the same vigorous search for the right Dr, and I chose Dr. Bruno Ferreira. My surgery is in a few weeks so I can't recommend him yet(lots of others to choosefromas well). In my search, I found that most Dr's in the US will lowball the graft # to keep the price down. Early on I looked at Turkey for price/quality. Then I realized that Europe would cost more, but hopefully I'd have an even better Dr. This is not to say Europe is the only place to go. The US has some good Dr's as well but the ones I looked at were 20-25k. Staying close is easy, but if you are honest with yourself, this guy is likely not a top HT Dr. I'd bet he's not that cheap either. Can you provide the quote he gave you? Just curious. New Orleans isn't a great medical area so I'd question if any Dr in our area is in the top of their field. My advice is to continue your search. You are young and will have to live with the results for a long time. Why not treat this surgery like an athlete would, and search for the best Dr you can afford. Sorry if this was too long but I thought it might be helpful. Whatever you decide, I pray you have great results 🙏 WHO DAT!!
  12. Can you please post a photo of the donor area post surgery? Do you have any pictures of when it was infected? Quick question that maybe you or someone else can answer. How was the terrain in Espinho? I just had ankle surgery and I'm wondering if it's hilly? I visited several months ago but I took uber to his office and didn't explore anything. I know Porto is very bad but didn't see Espinho much. Sorry if I'm supposed to start a new thread. Just figured several people looking at this could provide a quick response and not take over the thread. Appreciate it 🙏
  13. I must've just missed the rate increase as I booked right around the same time. He still seems worth the 3€ from what I hear. Not many posted results yet but certainly seeing more that are kinda fresh.
  14. I thought about it but I booked it in March. I bet he's a year out now and canceling 3 weeks out might put them in a bind as well. The good thing is I'm currently off of work due to my ankle so I guess that's the trade off. I broke my other Ankle about 4 years ago so I'm also pretty acclimated to getting around on knee scooters. The biggest pain I believe will be Flying and Airport with luggage as I'm going alone. This week I'm going to attempt a trial run with luggage to see if I'm being too optimistic though.
  15. Actually, I tore my Achilles 4 weeks ago. I'm still on a knee scooter at the moment. I'm from the US so I'm not looking forward to 20 hr travel days in my condition but in 3 weeks hopefully I can wobble around in the walking boot. Of course this has me quite anxious at the moment. I was looking at the same hotel. Did you book it or did you let Alexandra book it?
  16. Looks like it's growing to me. Still appears quite red for 3 months, or is it the lighting/camera? Has the Dr commented or advised you on possibly using a cream to clear redness? Which hotel did you stay at and do you recommend it? I'm scheduled for mid January.
  17. Looks good! I have surgery scheduled in mid January with him. I'm a little nervous as I still don't see many results from him, but more and more people are starting to post. I traveled to meet him several months ago and he seemed like a good Dr. I really enjoyed Porto so I'm contemplating just staying in Porto and Uber back and forth. But in the end I might just stay in Espinho at least for the surgery days. Unfortunately I just had ankle surgery 3 weeks ago, so I'm know I won't be able to walk much, especially up/down hill. That really has me nervous. Anyways, thanks for sharing and good luck with your results. I'll likely start my own thread afterwards. Also can you share the Airbnb you used as I may look into it?
