one of the most impressive things about this result was the FUT scar.. man do I wish mine was that thin. Or better yet, i wish i discovered this forum before my transplants. im sitting here with 1cm linear scar

Yeah I got really lucky, especially since I got the HT before I found this forum, and it was from a chain type place.

Miss you on the forum. But damn I see why you don’t post as much. You beat the game.

Thanks man. If I wasn’t wearing my hair long I’d probably get another HT to lower my hairline a bit, give me temple points, and add more density to my crown. But the thought of starting over and having to wait 3 years to have long hair again does not sound fun.

    Hi,

Fantastic results... You're also styling your hair with taste, it works.

About FUT vs FUE: FUT has become more rare, did you specifically ask for FUT and not FUE, or did the doctors advise FUT rather than FUE to you? Or maybe it's an FUT-only clinic?...

I got it nearly 3 years ago and a lot has changed. At the time, FUT was cheaper and allowed them to do more hair per session.

Your result looks great however I’ll be honest I was disappointed to learn you got SMP, a good transplant result shouldn’t require the patient to get fake cover ups like SMP or the use of fibers.
Another thing that could have improved your result is if you had two sessions, instead of addressing the hairline and crown in one session your doctor should have just focused solely on the hairline and frontal region entirely and then you could have gone for a second surgery a year later focusing on the crown only + if you used some sort of medication during that time your results would have been even better

I got SMP instead of a second surgery. I didn’t want to go through all that hassle again. I was never going to get full coverage from one surgery, I had too much loss.

I had been on medication for years before I got the HT, so that wouldn’t have made a difference.

Actually a combover provides me a headfull kind of appearance only if it's held steady in a particular way with hair spray, and that's very difficult to maintain. One gust and my scalp stands exposed. That's why I have to use hair fibres + spray. And that's honestly getting too frustrating and I can't keep doing it. I need something more permanent.

SMP actually works well in two extreme cases : buzz cut appearance AND long hair with minor thin areas on the scalp. I feel my case is somewhat close to the 2nd scenario. Basically, whenever the contrast between existing hairs and smp dots isn't too stark, it works. @EvoXOhio please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes I plan on continuing taking oral minoxidil for the foreseeable future if I don't get any side effects. I've read that several people who didn't respond as well to finasteride achieved better results on including dutasteride, so I'm inclined towards trying that. But fear of long term side effects is also playing on my mind.

I don't recall if Dr. Soni featured prominently as an FUT specialist in my research back then. That fact that I lived in Bengal and Dr. Khanna's clinic was quite close by also tilted my decision (and also my dad's decision) in his favour (obviously I know now that it was a stupid reason). But yes, Dr. Khanna is way overhyped. Now I know at least half a dozen FUE clinics in India which provide better results than Khanna at half his price!

You are correct. SMP has 2 use cases - for someone who shaved their head bald and wants to have the shaved head look, and for people with longer hair who have decent hair coverage with some thinning and they want to have the illusion of a full head of hair. Mine is the latter. Here is a pic: https://imgur.com/a/oVKVz5Z

@EvoXOhio would really appreciate your inputs wrt my chances with SMP

I'm considering it super seriously, and won't mind keeping longer hair if that helps with the illusion better.

I think SMP could work for you, but only if your hair loss is stabilized. If you’re not sure if it is, I wouldn’t get SMP

    I had a question here.

We know there's a significant difference between wet and dry+combed hairs post hair transplant. The former looks significantly thinner in most cases.

How would the two situations compare post an SMP? As in, if I get an SMP to add density, will the dots be unnaturally visible when my hair is wet and scalp super exposed?

    Thanks!

It all depends on how much hair you have, and the thickness and darkness of the dots. But most likely yes it’s going to be more visible with wet hair.

    Hey!

Any update? When did your hair shed stop, and have you seen improvements from oral minoxidil?

I switched from topical to oral minoxidil a month back and I've been seeing some good shedding for 2 weeks now. Most of the falling hairs seem small and thin though.

The shed lasted maybe 4-6 weeks, I can’t remember exactly. It’s really hard for me to track improvement because I’ve had an HT and SMP. My hair loss daily is still extremely minimal, like maybe 10-20 hairs. And most of that is from combing my hair because it’s long down to my shoulders and gets knotted up in the shower. The best part about switching is I no longer have greasy hair from the topical.

    I see.

so if you are with a woman or partner and they are playing with your hair looking at it or if the wind is blowing a lot does it look funny? As in there are these dark dots in your scalp that are not hairs?

My wife has been with me since before my HT and SMP. So in bright lighting up close if she was playing with my hair, I’m sure she could see dots. As far as the wind, I have really long hair so I spray a bit of hairspray on my crown so it doesn’t blow around. When my hair was short the wind didn’t blow it so there was no issue, although I still used hairspray to be safe.

Who was the surgeon at PAI, the thing with places like that and other commercial mills, sometimes the doctors are actually good. It’s just a gamble.

Dr. Waesche. I’m very happy with the results, but it’s far from a perfect HT. And had I known about this forum beforehand and did my research, I would have gone to a forum recommended surgeon instead, and likely had a better result. Even though I’m happy with my results, I wouldn’t recommend my place or doctor simply because there are so many better options out there.

  11. If you find my HT thread you’ll see I went through the same thing. Anxiety, depression, buyer’s remorse, etc. the first 6 months or so. But then once the hair started to fill in and look thick, I turned a corner. Now I couldn’t be happier that I did it. It was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

This is going way back, but Moe Howard, Shemp Howard, and Curly Howard (Three Stooges). These guys never lost any hair. Moe always had his hair cut in a bowl cut for the movie shorts, but he actually had great hair. Same goes for Curly who shaved his head for his role, but also had great hair.
