The chances of side effects are a little less than 5% on oral finasteride. I would definitely consider taking oral finasteride. I know MANY patients who wish they had used oral finasteride much earlier. You're essentially fighting with one arm tied behind your back without finasteride/minoxidil.

Hello, does 5mg of finasteride work better than 1mg?

i feel like you guys are overthinking it. I get 1mg of generic fin delivered to my house for about $20 for a 90 day supply. I keep the pills in the bottle in the cabinet. It's not rocket science. To each their own.

Hi @champybaby, aren’t you using dut now or did u switch back?

    Hi 👋

Yes I have it too, and it’s not affected any of my x5 Hair Transplants. Please cross out your current choices of clinics. You can do so much better than these ! Some awful results from them.
Please consider Dr Bicer as a much better choice. Lots of forum results and she is currently being considered for a recommendation.

Is there anything in specific that needs to be done before or after the surgery if one has SD? What treatments do u use to control it?

    First, welcome to the community.

I'll echo what John stated. I have patients with SD and they've achieved great results from their hair transplants. I don't know about the clinics you've mentioned. The link John posted has stellar surgeons.

Where are you located and are you restricted by geography?

Is there anything in specific that needs to be done before or after the surgery if one has SD?

This kind of custom approach is critical any good transplant result, but especially with FUE. If a surgeon is not willing and able to adjust to the patient's physiology as much as possible they are setting the patient up for failure.

This case looks like a very judicious use of a modest number of grafts. A little really went a long way.

Agreed, too many tech run clinics do not/cannot follow this approach

Having at least some kind of hairline might help a HT doc know to design the transplanted one around it. The native hair there, if you can retain it, would also add to the naturalness of the result.

You can technically do it yourself, as even knowing a general number might help you

Different clinics will give you different answers. Like Lorenzo in Spain and Asmed in Turkey use a graft calculator, although their numbers are usually estimated a little higher.

I should also add there a handful of clinics that are able to do FUE megasessions and would be able to handle your case in one go. Im not advocating it either way as its up to the patient to decide, but Eugenix in India, Hasson and Wong in Canada, and Hattingen in Europe routinely do such sessions with a high level of consistency.

Are the graft estimates by asmed and Lorenzo a lot higher than what other doctors calculate? Is it significantly higher?

yeah its a mixed bag. Ive talked to some guys that have had bad results/poor growth and they've mentioned they've come to some sort of arrangement with the clinic. If its that they've usually had to sign an NDA. It was smart of them to post from the start though as it ultimately gave them more room to negotiate.

Some guys get uncomfortable with their image posted online as well, so sometimes you see their threads removed. Its not like its fun to have your bad surgery posted everywhere for the world to see, so I really feel for those guys. its brave of them to share at all really.

Other guys just get enthusiastic about the surgery, or are looking for general support, but then get bored after the initial few months because this stuff is a long process. Occasionally they'll come back after years and are like "oh yeah I had a good result, now I need a touch up." Its always good to see them.

Really hard to assess what % are getting a good result because of his. I think @LordBaldwin did some stats about Asmed once based on patient listings, but yeah its impossible to know what's going on.

    Good question.

Oof I can’t believe this is a reality. The ht world really is wild.

I STRONGLY agree with Melvin. I'll give you an example. I personally see a lot of my patients taking finasteride and the vast majority of them don't have side effects (remember, the published side effect rate is ~5%). However, when you're online and the topic of finasteride comes up, people are usually all gloom and doom. People usually like to vent online.

Hello, are you a hair transplant surgeon?
