  1. Thank you for the replies. I guess I have to play the game of having the illusion of hair for my "youth" and consequently dealing with visible scars 10+ years after my native hairs fall (even if I'm on finasteride). I haven't been able to find any pictures of donor sites or recipient sites 10+ years apart ... would love to see how transplants look like many years from now for some!

  2. Hello, some general questions for FUE scars.

    1. Which punch size should be acceptable to not show much scarring?
    2. Also, lets say 10 years after your transplant you decide to shave it off and go for the bald look ... will you definitely need SMP or some other type of aesthetic procedure to cover up any scarring on the donor and the recipient site?
    3. Anything we can do after the transplant to reduce scarring potential or prevent maximum scarring?

did euginex say they would not be able to do the crown this time, but could do it eventually? or they would not do the crown at all?

They said they will leave it to finasteride to improve but since it's been a year they are planning to do 700 grafts in the crown. However, max 3000 grafts, anything more is from my beard (which I'd rather not have any from beard).

They said my lifetime donor capacity is 4500-5000.

Have you considered oral minoxidil? For your case I think two great clinics would be Hasson and Wong and Eugenix, you need a clinic with a history if doing Norwood 6s.

I've tried topical and it made the thinning more noticeable. Eugenix is great, however they recommended they were not going to operate on the crown and mostly on the frontal but I am trying to get a full coverage.

There are many good surgeons. You should consult with a few recommended on this site and go with one you are most comfortable with a long term plan.

Has your loss stabilized on Finasteride? You have a diffuse hair loss pattern. Were you planning on focusing on the front for now? With your age it might be better to leave the crown at this time to see how things progress. You also seem to have good donor hair characteristics which should work in your favor. Research well before making a decision and seek opinions on the forums it will be helpful.

Yes finasteride has stabilized my hair loss. I've only been on it for a year but it doesn't seem to be progressing much quicker. I am planning to have entire scalp on first session and then maybe in the future do a 2nd transplant. Why would it be better to leave my crown for now if I'm planning on transplanting over it any way? I understand I'm going to lose more hair in the future but why not just get a couple "dense" years in and worry about the rest when I'm much older?

I've looked into Eugenix, I am also looking into clinics from Turkey such as ASMED, HLC, Hakan, Dr. Bhatti.

I would contact HLC clinic and someone like Demirsoy, in Turkey and see what they say, you do have a large area to cover so you might need more than 1 procedure to cover up the balding areas, do you wana deal with the FUT scar? also 100 grafts/cm^2 is insanely high I don't know usually they go for 35-50 cm and some cases with dense packing up to 80 I think, I am not an expert on this but contact with multiple clinics there is no harm in doing so.

Thanks. Yea I don't want to deal with the scar. I don't know why one of the top clinics in Canada is saying I have no hope while the other one is suggesting I can get ~100grafts/cm^2 which seems a bit high. I know I'll have to do 2 procedures or more in my life but for the first one, do you think it's wise to find a suitable/reputable doctor in Turkey to get it done for lower cost and then another point in my future go to one of the top doctors and spend more money to fill in density? I've contacted HLC and they are charging 2.5 euros per graft which is pretty expensive compared to other clinics in Turkey.

I am not sure why everyone is stelling not to go for a hair transplant when you are almost completely bald, what's the wait for? if it's really bothering you go for it, but be careful who you go to your donor grafts are valuable and you don't want to go to any place. I would consult with Hasson & Wong and Rahal but I would lean towards H&W, prices are very high in Canada if you don't mind traveling there are good doctors out there in Turkey and Europe that you can go to..

The wait is because I am doing a lot of research to find a suitable doctor. I've spoken to Rahal and they said I'm better off shaving my head. I've spoken to H&W and they said FUT is best procedure if I want 100 grafts/cm^2... I'm not looking for that many grafts/cm^2, if its possible then yes I'd go for it. I'm looking to get good coverage on my head show my scalp doesn't show so much. Prices are very high in Canada that's why I'm looking for Turkey but with all these travel advisories, I am still trying to look for best option. Do you have any doctors in Turkey or Europe that you recommend? Thanks for your reply.

I agree with the opinions of the fellas above.

IMHO These are the steps you and everyone should take:

1: Yes, shave your head really short or to a buzz cut and see how you like it...you may surprise yourself and like the look a lot. There is a great YouTube channel called Bald cafe and the guy seems to be helping lots of suffering guys deal with this.

2: If after a buzz cut you don’t like it or hate the look, then get on the big 4 (Low dose Finasteride, Minox, Microneedling And Nizoral and stay consistent with it for at least 6-9 months...growing your hair back takes time be patient.

3: If your hair loss has stabilized, look for a reputable Hair transplant doctor and do an in person consultation so they may asses your hair if it’s viable for you to do and HT procedure.

    4: Don’t rush a procedure...do steps 1 & 2 first.

    Good luck!

I've tried minox and finasteride and shaved my head... after all these I still feel like I need to get a HT. I've spoke to some doctors and they recommended FUE of about 5000 grafts. Do you have some reputable doctors that you could recommend?

agree with duchaine, wait to see how the meds work and see if your balding stabilises.

IMO looks like you have retrograde alopecia (thinning at the nape and above the ears) which doesnt preclude you as a candidate for.a HT but limits your available donor and might make you want to choose FUT over FUE if you eventually decide on an operation. Have you consulted with any of the HT docs here and done a scalp laxity test? They can be done over the net.

The dark hair/light skin contrast also doesnt help hide your balding, which currently looks like youre a diffuse NW6, and given your age (27) means you might eventually advance to a NW7. Does your family have a history of balding?

Trying adding microneedling to the mix if youre really wanting to explore all your options as diffuse thinners seem to respond better to it (albeit i have never tried it).

I've consulted with several doctors in Canada and most recommended FUE with approx 5000 grafts for first session. How much more grafts could I obtain with FUT? I really don't want to get the scar.

use medication for 12-18 months and see what happens!
IMHO, fina alone is not enough.
You need to understand that "hair loss is amultifactorial  phenomenon thus different medications work in a synergic way"

Thanks. Finasteride alone won't fully grow back hair so I'm thinking I'll have to get a HT sooner or later. Thoughts?

@kingk.. In my view your tailor made for 1 mega session with Dr Arika at Eugenix.

Why on earth commit to 2 recoveries both emotional and physical when you can knock it out of the park in one go for the same financial investment... 7K graft procedure in India or a 5k and 12 month later circa 2 K procedure with any of the other scenarios you've mentioned be it Canada or Turkey

It's a no brainer... I'm saying this as your Doner is perfectly suitable for a graft count procedure very similar to mine

    I hád 5600 scalp and 1400 beard grafts extracted over 3 days 21 to 23 Dec 2019

I would give the same advice to any 5 and above Norwood with acceptable donor..

You need to seek out a  clinic that performs and what's more relishes mega session procedures on a daily basis..

That clinic is located in Delhi

    Its name is Eugenix.....

Over tó you and Best of luck

Would you be comfortable showing me your result? Whether its publicly or privately.

@kingk I was asking the same question last year and came to the conclusion that I should find a doctor that is doing the whole surgery (with the assistance of his team) and has real patient posting great results. I had a budget so I had find a affordable Doctor but I didn’t want to comprise on quality results.
I found that @Dr. Bruno Ferreira, HLC, Dr. Pekiner and Dr. Arika were doing highly skilled surgeries and getting great results at very affordable prices.
Dr. Arika (1.8€/graft) at Eugenix is considered the best in the world for mega sessions +7000 grafts (using beard grafts). With Eugenix you could get great density with just 1 surgery (the other Docs I recommend might suggest splitting your case in 2 surgeries).

I chose Dr. Pekiner because of many real patients posting great results with +1500 beard grafts.

Hmm, I don't know if I want to do a transplant with hair from my beard because I can't really grow it out. By the looks of my donor hair, do you think my hair grafts + beard grafts is the best option?

    @kingk

What have the clinics explained that you would likely achieve with 5000 grafts?

A lot can be achieved with 5000 grafts, especially with a conservative hairline.

If you were to roughly measure the top of your head with areas of loss, from the furthest part back of the crown, to your hairline. Then the width between the lateral humps, you can calculate a rough area of loss. We all have unique size heads and bone structure, and of course the hairline/the area of loss are not perfectly square/rectangle, but the area may be 17cm x 15cm = 255cm2. Lets call it 250cm2.

    5000 grafts / 250cm2 = an average density of 20cm2.

An area of 200cm2 = an average density of 25cm2.

Of course, your hairline restoration would have a significant higher density than your midscalp/vertex.

You are 27, Im not sure if you are using hair loss preventative medication. If not, you may lose further hair and your lateral humps and crown/lower crown may drop further. This is something important to be aware of considering your age.

Your donor appears to show some thinning in the nape, retrograde alopecia. I would not be able to estimate density. Where you given any numbers regarding density from your previous consultations?

Some of the clinics that you have mentioned have a "sketchy" reputation at best as @Portugal25 has already mentioned. These are the cautions that I speak of. You are a young guy, with significant loss, but as long as your donor has no issues with density/ follicular groupings or miniaturisation, there is no reason why you can not achieve a great result. Expectations must be realistic.

Most patients can not safely reach 5000 scalp grafts in one procedure. If this is your intention and the intention of said Turkish clinics, again be careful.

I edited my initial post regarding your donor as @1978mattcorrectly highlighted some thinning in the lower part of your donor.

Clinics have said I could get about 70% coverage with 5000 grafts on first session and then more density in second session.

I am on finasteride for 3 months now.

Average density of about 40grafts/cm^2 can be achieved but Isn't every patient different so how could a clinic give an estimation of how you'll look in the future?

I am doing more research on different clinics but if the doctor is leading the surgery and shows good results from other patients and has good reviews online, is this not enough to see if they are credible?

Whats the average amount of grafts a patient can receive in one session without over harvesting? I'm not expecting a full head of hair but at least enough coverage so my scalp doesn't show so much. Maybe SMP tattoos are an option with a transplant in the future?

Most doctors have said I got good donor hair.

@kingk I have had a HT in Turkey and you should be aware that Turkey is the world capital of botched hair transplants.

Your list makes no sense to me because you are trying to compare 2 low cost hairmills with a tech run surgery at Asmed and then you include HLC which is a clinic where the surgery is totally performed by a Doctor using stick&place and therefore it’s in a whole different league.

Obviously just like @Sam818 already advised you I will also have to say that out of your list I can only recommend HLC.
If you really want to have your surgery in Turkey then also talk with Dr. Pekiner (2.15€/graft) but I advise you to broaden your horizons and speak with @Dr. Bruno Ferreira (2.5€/graft)

Which countries are best for Hair transplant considering cost? If the doctor has good reviews, visible results and is performing the operation with a team of people, does this mean there are credible and trustworthy? I'm asking for advice on how to go about my search for a suitable doctor as I've been talking to multiple clinics around the world and most of them are saying the same thing in terms of achieving about 4500 to 5500 grafts.

You have experienced quite a significant amount of loss.

    How old are you?

Its good that you are aware that a further procedure will most likely be necessary. Realistic expectations are essential. If you have visited 5 clinics in Canada, depending who they were, I hope that you have been sufficiently educated on what can be achieved, the need for a conservative hairline etc... If they have, and you have taken it on board, please be cautious in Turkey with some of your considerations.

What have your consultation commented in regards to your donor density? Have they stated the area of coverage necessary/loss?

    27 yo.

Most clinics I visited in person in Canada said I could get about 5000 grafts w an average density of about 40/cm^2. I've also consulted multiple clinics in Turkey, what are some cautions you are speaking of?

Most clinics stated I have above average donor density. How does my density appear on the photos?

  16. Hi, new poster here.

I am about Norwood 5 stage, thin hair on scalp (pic attached). I've visited multiple (approx 5) HT doctors in Canada which most said I would be able to get a transplant done of about 5000 grafts.

I am looking to travel to Turkey and have talked to and they mostly said roughly 5000 grafts for first operation and then I would most likely have to come for a second operation in the future:

    - Hair of Istanbul

    - Asmed

    - Longevita

    - HLC

I am asking for advice on which clinic in Turkey would be best suited for my hair loss type? Especially if you have similar hair fall as me.

    Thanks!
