  1. sceptic, hey man, i m not in entertainment but i need not be in that industry to understand! I am in the commodities trading business and i face bankers and traders everyday. Nowadays its no longer just about your work attic or performance anymore... u see those smooth talking gelled hair guys getting promoted faster than a space shuttle would go to Mars. Somehow bald guys lack some confidence no matter what they say on the outside.

However, for my case, i do not work for anyone but myself... so its not abt what others perceive but how i perceive myself. Without that thick of crop, my confidence will always take a hit and i am not going to just sit there and whine.

After going thru the HT and now enduring the agony of the waiting time, i would like to give a thumbs up to all those ( including myself hehehe ) who have the courage to finally undergo a HT. Its indeed a tough road to travel guys...

  2. Sunny! Yah i am concentrating on cardio now but my normal routine covers a full circuit body weight training plus intervals of burpees to finish it up... feels so lousy since i stopped training due to surgery.

i was so tempted to do something but u sure u did not accidentally stretched the scar? how about pull up? thats the grand daddy of all my training moves and i would really love to get back under the bar :)

  3. hey sunny!!! how ya doing matey? :) yah i had mine done on 15/6/10 so i have a long long way to go ! My donor area is healing well considering i am only 2 weeks post op. Scabs have formed but i did not dare to rub so i am letting them drop slowly :)

You are doing great mate, and u are only half way there!! Grow, grow, grow!!!

Dr Pat held the ISHRS regional meeting last week so they are v busy hence i can prob get my post op pics by this week. Will post them up asap!

oh yah, before i forget, i have nvr gone thru a full 2 weeks without touching any weights. I normally go on circuit training, comprising of push up pull etc squats leg raises etc.

I remembered u are a fitness buff sir, so any advice when i can hit my circuits again? I did some light cycling and walking of stairs ( really hate to go out in cap unles i have to so i stick to stairs climbing as i wun meet anyone ). I was expecting some itch on the donor or recipient due to sweat but i was relieved there was none. Now i know that cardio is not an issue, i would like to know when it is time to hit the gym again!

  4. Bill, u r welcome :) i did my surgery 1 week ago and realized Dr Pat is hosting the event this weekend so i thought of raising awareness among forum members :)

ah, boston! sorry dude, this name just does not sit well with me. u should understand why if i tell u i am a hardcore LA Lakers fan :)

and yes, i am now going thru the montreal highlights! thanks!

  5. Hi guys, especially past patients and potential patients of Dr Damkerng Pathimvanich of Bangkok

It might interest u to know that he is hosting the below mentioned event

    June 25-27, 2010

    ISHRS Regional Workshop

New Advances in Asians Hair Transplantation

    Bangkok, Thailand

    International Society of Hair

    Hosted by: Damkerng Pathomvanich, MD

Anyway i did not post this under the instruction of the clinic, but just to create awareness of the event :)

  6. I think it really depends on the individual but for me, its a 100% no-no. When i am back to work next week ( 2 weeks post op ), i will prob don a cap and wear t-s and jeans ( i am lucky that i own the biz so i dun need to report to anyone )

i will tell my men that i had some scalp irritation and had to shave off to apply ointment. No way am i letting them know i went for a HT

  7. Hi Dr Charles! Yes u should take some time to visit Asia, places such as Bangkok and Singapore :) the food is so much different from the standard western fare :)

Dr Pathomvanich is the host of the event and like u mentioned, many good doctors will be attending :)

    Anyway thanks for the reply!

  9. good growth my friend! i had my surgery on 15/6/10 so its post op 1 week plus for me :) scabs are forming and the hairline still in tact, which of cos i presume will fall off in another week's time :)

i will be posting my pics but i am still waiting for them. clinic is quite tied up as apparently they are organising the ISHRS thingy in Bangkok this yr.. so everyone is kinda busy and i will get my pics next week

    do comment when i post!

  10. Sceptic, i agree with your stand. I met a fellow HT goer from the same country just a day after my surgery at the same clinic i went to, except that she was a lady. Poor thing, she had thinning at the vertex and had abt 2.1k grafts done to it. She told me the reason she did it was actually the perception of others. She din actually mind the thinning herself. Mind u she is only 33, abt same age as me.

However, for my case, like my family members kept saying, u are married, have a kid and budding career. Y do u let yourself get so affected by something as meaningless as hair? Hence, in my case, its not abt what others see of me. Its all abt me myself and again myself. Pple obviously dun care whether i have hair or not, it does not impact anyone but myself.

To sum it up, as long as u feel there is enough reason for u to undergo a HT, that reason, IMO, will be good enough :)

  11. hi all, i have been trying to find a thread on such a topic but so far i cant find any

I am post op 1 week, and sporting the shaved frontal look with long hair from 1/3 of the head onwards all. I am sure this look is common ( i am still waiting for pics from the clinic ).

I was just wondering whats my best bet looking fwd, like a mth post op? As in should i continue to leave my hair long so as to do a combover ( admit it guys, it looks like crap... to my fellow asian friends, its like the qing dynasty look, with the shaved front and long hair from centre head onwards albeit without the pony tail haha ).

Or should i cut it short thru out? By 1 month, i reckon the recipient would ve healed ( its post op 1 week and i can the pinkness subsiding pretty hastily ) However, that might expose my scar which i thought i should be able to cover well with concealers ( concealers are a god send. they have kept me sane for the last few yrs ) Obviously i am not going to cut it extremely short ; prob a few cm kind of hair length throughout. I will favour this look rather than the comb over

I am sure the majority of the HT folks have gone thru this path. Any comments?

    thanks!!!!!

  12. i totally agree with mahhong :) while HTs are defn not cheap, they are not incredulously expensive either. I gather that the emotional set back of losing hair outweighs the joy of maybe owning a higher spec car or along the likes of that. Of cos, that is only my opinion!

Next, its also abt expectations. Look, hair gone is gone. Unless u r a NW 1 ( in which prob a gd surgeon would advise u to wait anyway ), its v v hard to get back the kind of density u sprout in ur youth. Hence, if u are in a NW 3 and beyond with fine hair ( which is my case ), u can forget about getting that Brad Pitt-look alike hair u dream of. Its just to implant enough to have an illusion that u are not balding, thats all. If u cannot come to terms with that, HT is not the way for u either as u will nvr be satisfied

  13. thanks for the words of encouragement guys! :)

Yes of cos i will post all the pictures and create my own web blog. I am still waiting for the pre op and post op pics from Dr Pat

It was due to the unselfish sharing of information and pictures that enable many, including myself, to gather confidence in what we are getting into and the pros and cons of HT. I am more than willing to share my experience with those who are still deciding :)

  14. Hi all, i had my surgery done on 15/6 after much consideration and loads of time surfing this forum for invaluable information.

My surgeron was Dr Damkerng Pathomvanich from Bangkok who is a recommended surgeon on this forum. Reached Bangkok on 14/6 and had a final consultation with Dr Oravan ( consultant of Dr Pat, who happens to be the sister of Dr Pat ) and decided on the final hairline etc

Reached the clinic at 11am and met the maestro himself, had a brief and very constructive chat ( as i am very clear about my goals and directives ) and the op started at around 1pm. I was super nervous at first, esp on the pain but i can assure u, the surgery was virtually painless and even the injections were well placed and i think probably i had total 4 to 5 injections to the donor and recipient area ( i cannot remember as obviously i was quite numb and sleepy due to the med taken prior to surgery )

Was expecting to withdraw 2800-3000 grafts but dr was pleasantly surprised to be able to extract 3150 without creating a bigger wound and scar. He was commenting my donor area is quite good, and laxity was quite fine which was quite uncommon for asians. The donor was then closed using the trico technique. I gather that the transection rate was extremely low in my case as he uses the refined open technique in which he goes around the skin to avoid cutting across the precious donors.

Surgery ended at 8pm and the first few hrs were quite unbearable as the pain killers started to lose their effect. However, i was able to catch some sleep and i din feel much pain from then on except the retention stitches which were more like uncomfortable than pain. Am having those removed next week.

Went for shampoo for the next 2 days, and no grafts were damaged or any blood was spotted. All in all. the surgery was a success and its now just a waiting game and more cap wearing days!

Once i get pre-op and post-op photos from the clinic, i will post them up for you guys to comment!

Once again, i thank all in the forum who have given me the relevant information to make the decision which until now, i have not regretted! Special thanks to Bill, Spex, and several of previous patients of Dr Pat who gave me the confidence to take this step :)

  15. i went for a final consultation with dr before surgery tomoro late morning.

I prob have 50% left on the top so i think it makes sense to plant in between. Anyway i posed my worry to the dr and this is wat i gathered. In order to plant in between existing hairs, its compulsory to shave so as to enable the dr and the technicians to do a good job

Emperor, i believe Dr Wong did shave off your recipient area right? In that case, the transplant itself should be done properly given Dr Wong's experience and reputation.

Do u think there is another reason causing your HT1 hair to fall off?

  16. hey dude, i am quite troubled abt something. i ve heard quite a few posts mentioning how native hair will somehow be damaged even under the best HT surgerons hands... but its like u gain some u lose some. prob those native hair which do not grow back are destined to fall off in a few yrs anyway but hey a few yrs are still good. its nvr a gd thing to shorten any hair's life span.

your hair loss is somewhat similar to mine... so i just wan to check with u, did Dr Pat implant between the native hairs? if so, were u aggressive? or just sparingly..

    u encountered any shock loss?

    thanks!

  17. emperor, i am not sure whether i can safely say i have 40% left but i am pretty confident the % is higher :)

i have a few pics which was taken right after i washed my hair and under v harsh lights with a hair band to expose the worst possible scenario of my hair loss. thats wat the dr told me :) comments may vary once it has dried and regaine is applied

anyway, i am not sure how to post the pics, so can u give me your email address so i can fwd to u for some comments? :)

  18. Emperor, so in your opinion, if for a patient having a bad frontal but satisfactory density from the 1/3 of the forehead onwards, its advisable not to touch? not even plant sparingly?

i am in the predicament with a very bad hairline but gets better as we approach the crown. Dr said its my call but i m v v worried abt damaging my own hair... shock loss is another concern but like the guys said, the hair caused by shock loss will prob grow again... i m just concerned abt the damaged existing hair... like u said

    any opinion?

  19. creepingback, i m scheduled to have my surgery on 15th this month so if u could post ur pic on the scar, it will be great :)

i think the majority of Dr Pat's patients can vouch for his worksmanship and dedication.. i am pretty sure u spoke to him abt ur scar? did he have any comments?
