  1. @tesla007 Thanks for appreciating our work! The patient opted for the FUT procedure to preserve his safe donor area, he has a family history of baldness (genetic). So he wanted to preserve his donor area for future sessions, which could be used if he lost his previous hair. Patient is applying topical solution (Minoxidil) and taking PRP therapy on regular intervals to slow down the progression of hair loss.
  2. Hi @jj51702 Sorry for the delayed response! Combination method of FUT and FUE is performed for optimum use of safe donor area: 1. It preserves the donor area for future sittings in cases of progressive hair loss. 2. With combination method, we can reduce the size (width) of strip which minimizes the chances of scarring when included with advanced technique termed Trichophytic closure. 3. This procedure includes harvesting a thin strip from back and side of the head followed by leaving ~2 cm area below for future strip extraction if required. Strip extraction is followed by limited FUE which is performed in the remaining lower side of safe area. The graft harvesting by FUE is performed cautiously by increasing the distance between the harvested grafts so as to reduce the chances of depletion of donor (thinning of donor area), it helps in maintaining the density at the donor area for future sittings (mostly required in cases of progressive hair loss and advanced bald cases). Considering the progressive hair loss in future, we should preserve the donor supply for future sittings for the long term benefits of the patient. 4. With combination method the average transection rate could be minimized to the lowest level, FUT graft segregation is performed under Microscope which reduces the grafts damage and while performing FUE method, grafts are extracted with a good distance which delivers ample number of grafts with minimal damage. Hence, combination method fulfills the requirement of more number of viable grafts (4000 to 5000 Grafts) to cover larger bald area. In addition, it avoids overharvesting the safe donor area and minimal chances of visible scaring. 5. We could achieve thinner single hair grafts by FUT to be transplanted in the frontal hair line as well as to construct the temporal triangles for natural looking results and multiple hair thicker Grafts by FUE which we can be transplanted from 3rd row of hairline mixed with FUT Grafts to give better density and better aesthetic results. 6. Results are more sustainable as we are not violating the safe donor area. 7. Ideally, 3000 to 3500 Grafts can be harvested by thin (FUT) strip (depending upon Graft density and laxity of skin). In addition 500 to 1000 grafts are further extracted by FUE technique from safe donor area. Despite achieving more number of grafts this technique offers 2 more successful sitting of FUT and FUE if required. 8. Larger bald area can be covered in single session by combine FUT + FUE technique as more than 4000 grafts can be harvested reducing the hassle of multiple sitting (could vary as per the patients bald area and density of follicles at donor area).
