  1. " You'll need a considerable overlap with your existing hair at the back and sides to make sure there's no chance of the clips engaging with the transplanted hair" Could you help elaborate on this? I I can't seem to visualize the picture you are trying to paint. Well, I already have a low hairline transplanted, so I'm not sure how tape can be attached further down without it looking ridiculous.
  2. I did not wear a hairpiece before my hair transplant but these people whom I'll be meeting saw me last when I still had a full head of hair (fuck aggresive balding). I don't intend to wear the hairpiece for the entire 5 months - very possibly 2-3, once I gain an appreciable cosmetic improvement. Also, I'll likely remove the hair system intermittently (every 4-5 days) before returning to the salon for reattachment. I'm taking a month's hiatus from work, so no issues with having an inconsistent look for awhile. My main worry is the risk of getting traction alopecia from the clips. Could anyone tell me whether the modifications I'm making to my hair system usage will suffice? How long of traction can our hair take before traction alopecia sets in? A month? Two? Six months? Thanks for the advice pal.
  3. I have a feeling he'll be adamant against the idea of it. Though, I've seen an article on IAHRS that addressed the issue and expressed no concern with it: https://www.iahrs.org/q-a/hairpiece-hair-transplant Toppik is great but shaving down to a number 4/5 doesn't guarantee that my toppik-ed frontal third will blend seamlessly with the rest of my hair.
  4. I wrote a reply to PostDoc but it got hidden. Could our mods help fix this?
  5. I went for a plan that includes weekly servicing and I intend to reduce the risk of traction alopecia by having my stylist change the position of the clips weekly and to limit wearing the system to only 4-5 days a week. I did ask my stylist whether the tape would pull out the transplanted hairs and she said it wouldn't because adhesive removers were used. I'm not really knowledgeable about how the process truly works, but do you think my gameplan is feasible? I might just wear it for only 3 months as I believe I'll have a cosmetically acceptable result at 8 months that will have substantial length.
  6. Quick update: I've seen a hair replacement specialist today and decided to get a system to tide me over for the next 5 months while the grafts grow in. I am likely to be using clips instead of glue to attach the system to my scalp so that I don't compromise the growth of the grafts. I hardly hear of anyone doing this on the forum. Can anyone come forward with their opinion on this approach? Thanks.
  7. Hey guys, I am in urgent need of advice now. I have a very important social event coming up and am contemplating getting a partial hair system (non-surgical/adhesives) done at a salon. Now, the issue is that the area I wish to have covered by the system is my transplanted area! I am at 5 months now and my transplanted area is only a mere 1 inch in length compared to the rest of my native hairs (5-6 inches). I understand that I would need to trim the transplanted area in order for the salon to bond the system onto it. My question is: will trimming the transplanted area at this stage of its growth hinder its progress? Also, will the bond that the salon use cause damage to my grafts? My greatest fear is that I'll cause permanent damage to my transplanted hair for a temporary fix.. I've attached a photo of the current state of my transplanted area

  9. This is my results at 5 months (just yesterday). Areas where I had shock loss of native hairs (upper left side and center of photo) seem to be slowly filling in, though it could just be my imagination. The left side also seems to be lagging behind the right side by a month. Not sure what to think about that. Am posting a photo of me at 3 months and 15 days to show how dramatic a change can occur in 2 months. Am still hoping to get a reply to my original question though.
  10. Get on propecia to strengthen your existing hairs if you even want to consider a transplant. The risk of losing your existing hairs is much higher when transplanting into a scalp with diffuse hair loss. Speak to a qualified surgeon about this issue.
  11. Hello, It's now month 5 after my hair transplant and after looking back at some of my pictures from previous months, I am wondering if more growth has yet to fill in because of this. The first picture is of me at 1 months post-op. My progress at 1 month was a bit peculiar because I had a lot of grafts that grew immediately! Those hairs are not the 'dead' post-HT stubble hairs because they actually had decent length to them! I hardly see this in results posted by other patients! The second picture is of me at 2 months. You'll notice that a lot of the grafts that took immediately after the transplant has shed. Now, I am wondering if my results aren't picking up as quickly as I wish because of how late my grafts shedded (the transplanted hairs that grew immediately shedded very near the 2 month mark). This makes me hopeful of more growth to come but it could simply be some lame hair science that I concocted to make myself feel better. Would be great if our experienced mentors, Spex or Gillenator could offer their input on this.
  12. Hello, I have a quick question that I think might be good to know for people who have recently undergone hair transplant like myself. I am wondering why, if most of the transplanted hair shed around the first month, do they not start to break through the scalp and start growing at the same time? It seems weird that some hairs will remain in the telogen stage for several more months, while some instantly emerge out of the scalp at the usual 3-4 month mark. Existing literature on hair transplant says that at the 6 month mark, only 50% of grafts will have emerged from the scalp. So the dormant follicles are idling around in the scalp doing what? How could they stay in the rest phase so long!
  13. I do not know whether these hairs are transplanted or native hairs. Though I gather that they could be native because of their thicker texture.
  14. Hey Spex, Thank you for responding to my topic. I understand that shedding might continue after the first 1-2 months, but my concern is with the peculiar characteristics of the currently shedded hairs. They appear to be atypical of the hairs that I've shedded earlier and seem to be of substantial length, which is rather strange. I know I wouldn't stand to gain anything by concerning myself with it, but it would be great if someone could actually give some input on what these hairs actually are.
  15. Hello, it's been 4 and a half month since my hair transplant and I've encountered an issue I need clarification on. Today, I isolated some hairs in my transplanted area and gave them a light tug. I noticed that some hair came out without any resistance (I swear I can hear a squeaky sound when I do this). These hairs appear to be about 1/2 to an inch in length and don't appear to be shaped like terminal or healthy hairs. They have funny-looking bulbs as well. I'm concerned that I'm still shedding this far in my hair transplant journey and would like to know if this is normal and hopefully glimpse an insight into the nature of such shedding. I've attached a photo of mentioned shedded hairs in this post. Please zoom in to notice the bulbs.
  16. So you think I am experiencing early growth? Hmm.. With so much of the results posted online being home-run results, it's kind of hard to know where I stand.
  17. Thanks Melvin. I was comparing my results to other young hair transplant patients like MikeNguyen and JeanLDD, and it definitely seems like I'm 1-2 months behind of them.
  18. Hello, I would just like to have educated opinions on my hair transplant progress so I can put my mind at ease. As of today, I am currently at 4 months and 15 days post-op, and the procedure I've undergone involved the transplanting of 2500 grafts via FUE, with single hair grafts placed strategically along the hairline. On the right side of the photo, the growth seems to be faster and more mature, as evidenced from the darker fill as compared to the left side of the photo. If you notice particularly glaring bald spots in the forelock and/or upper left side of the photo, it is due to shock loss of my existing native hair, and I just started on a finasteride regimen 2 weeks ago in hopes of salvaging it. Right now, when I brush my hand through the transplanted area, it actually doesn't feel as sparse as it looks like on photos. That makes me wonder if I'm actually feeling hairs that aren't that visible yet. Then again, I might just be kidding myself.
  19. Hello, I have had a hair transplant 4 months ago and am curious about a particular statistic that I've seen being circulated around the hair transplant community. Most people seem to buy into the idea that at 3 months, there will typically be 10% growth, 20% at 4 months and then 50% at 6 months. What I'm curious about is whether these numbers represent the percentage of grafts that have sprouted from the telogen stage and into the anagen stage, or whether they simply are a ballpark about a patient's general progress from a 0-100 spectrum. It seems odd to believe that only 10% of grafts would sprout at 3 months when there are so many examples on the internet where the numbers seem higher. Could someone please enlighten me on this issue? Thanks a lot.
  20. I see in your signature that you used to be a Norwood 3A. Did you experience any shock loss when the doctor transplanted within your forelock area? I'm assuming your forelock would have some diffuse loss as is typical of Norwood 2A/3A patients. I am a Norwood 3A myself and am wondering if not going on finasteride before the op was a mistake. The consensus on hair transplant for diffuse thinners is that usually that it's a bad idea. Well, I never considered that my forelock was considered diffusely thinning..
  21. A little confused about what you said here. Do you mean you've never seen someone who didn't get necrosis after they bounced back or you've never seen anyone not bounce back from something apart from necrosis? Yeah, I'm actually resigned to going for a second hair transplant if this shock doesn't resolve.
  22. No, I am not on finasteride. I recently filled out an order for it because I am hoping that I'll be able to salvage any hairs that got shocked out. It would also help my existing hairs to be better prepared if I need a second hair transplant. I am particularly worried about a minoxidil shed especially after waiting till 3 months after my transplant. Do you think it'll really help?
  23. 2500 grafts. The thing that worries me is that my doctor planted at a lower density around my native hairs, so if they were not to return, the results wouldn't look good at all. I've been scouring Google for examples of shock loss which grew back but so far, there seems to no concrete example. Could healthy and non-miniaturized hair shock out too?
  24. Hello, I've underwent a hair transplant 3+ months ago and have encountered an issue which is leaving me really anxious and depressed about. At 3 months, I feel that I am on track as the areas that my doctor implanted into have sprouted grafts and I can now see a faint outline of my new hairline. The troubling thing is that I might be experiencing a terrible bout of shock loss in the recipient area. Attached are photos of me before the op, after the op and at present (3 months 18 days post op). You will be able to notice that the bald spots I have now used to house plenty of native hairs. I am worried that the loss will be permanent and that I'll end up looking balder than I did before the transplant. Will really appreciate if anyone could share their experiences with shock loss similar to mine and any actions I could take to resolve this. The first two pictures were taken with a front facing camera and you'll notice that the right side of the photo (right side of my head) depicts what I'm talking about. The third photo was taken normally and you'll notice the bald spots on the left side of the photo, particularly near the corners. 1st pic: Present 2nd pic: Pre-op 3rd pic: Present
