Just PRP for the moment, though I've had two sessions now. Since I had diffuse thinning and no true "dead zones" it helped rejuvenate enough of my hair that I was able to put a transplant on the back burner. It's still something I'm considering to strengthen the frontal-temporal areas and I did want to see Dr. Arocha again to discuss options, but then Covid hit and I think for the moment all in-person consults are for imminent surgeries only. I'd also have to drive to Houston from Dallas because the doctor's periodic visits to my neck of the woods also look to be on hold due to pandemic, so I'm in a holding pattern for now.

His office has plenty of photos but what I really need at this point is a detailed look at my scalp to propose a long term plan and discuss donor limitations, as well as see whether risk of permanent shock loss to my thinner areas might outweigh the potential cosmetic impact of surgery at this time.

Mycroft - come on down! We are happy to open our doors to to you, we just ask that you wear a mask. If you can't make it down to Houston before the end of the year, I am thinking about having Dr. Arocha start seeing his Dallas patients again toward the beginning of 2021 (which has to be a better year -right?). We can do a PRP for you at the Dallas location at that time. In the interim, maybe we can get doc to get a good look over FaceTime?

  2. This is one of my personal favorite patient results. He's been a longtime patient of Dr. Arocha and came in for his most recent procedure last December.

He first came to our office with diffuse thinning in the hairline and frontal area one year after a hair transplant with another high end surgeon. At that time, he wanted to enhance his hairline and increase density of his frontal area. He also wanted an artistic, enhanced hairline with a widow's peak. Approximately 1500 grafts were placed in the hairline, and approximately 1500 grafts were placed in the frontal to mid-scalp area for a total of 3093 FUT's during his first procedure with Dr. Arocha. He had an additional 2000 grafts added during his procedure last December. So, he's just under a year out from his 2nd procedure at our office.

Agree with the others, very natural. How many grafts were used? And the guy looks pretty young -was the amount of grafts needed considered minor relative to how good the donor looks, in case down the road he starts to need HTs?

Great question. Dr. Arocha used 2000 grafts to construct this beard. The patient is in his early 20s! In this particular case, the patient has plenty of donor left in the reserves should he decide he wants another procedure down the road.

  4. This patient came to Dr. Arocha because he wanted a facial hair transplant in his beard and mustache. He didn’t have much growth in his mustache, and his beard was patchy and bare in some areas. Dr. Arocha did an FUE beard hair transplant. The after images were taken 14 months after his procedure, and the final result is "as natural as nature itself."

  5. Hi all - I wanted to update you on this patient. These are the one-year result photos for this patient. He is thrilled with this corrective result. The before images were taken AFTER his failed transplant with a different doctor in Houston. This just goes to show that you really need to do your research when it comes to hair transplant doctors. Sometimes the projected practice image of these leading neograft FUE hair transplant physicians is not supported by their achieved patient results.

  6. This patient came in to see Dr. Arocha for a beard transplant procedure (done via FUT). Doc worked in the sideburns, cheek, goatee and mustache. The “after” images were taken just four months after his procedure, but he already shows some early growth. We will continue to follow this patient and update with photos.

  7. This patient began to have major diffuse thinning throughout. Dr. Arocha recommended a multi-step approach to his hair transplant journey. He had a 2500 graft FUE procedure, and these after photos were taken 10 months after that procedure. He recently came back for a second, smaller hair transplant to complete his journey. I will update with photos as he comes back in for follow up visits.

Is Dr Arocha going to answer the questions from the Q&A thread that was opened up a few months ago?

    Hi Curious,

Doc is working on responding to some of the questions directly on the thread (he did post one this morning). Melvin has also asked us to get him on video answering these questions, which we are working on as well! He's a busy guy, but I hope to get him in front of the camera soon. Stay tuned.

Thanks for doing this Melvin and Dr. Arocha!  Dr. A, in your opinion has FUE yield rates improved to the levels seen with FUT?  If so, what factors have contributed to this improvement?  Thanks!

Thanks aaron1234 for your question! The early studies on fue graft survival revealed a 60% survival rate. Refinements in punches, hand engines, and techniques have improved the survival of the extracted grafts to levels close to that obtained with fut. Of course, it is not a level field with many practitioners starting to practice with little if any training, and much less experience. Many delegate the fue extractions to technicians with practical experience but little medical training. Managing the donor area requires excellent technique, and short and long term planning. This maximizes the outcomes for not only the present procedure but also for the future hence ensuring the best coverage, density, and of course naturalness of the results.

  10. This patient came to Dr. Arocha several years ago. He began his hair transplant journey with a 2500 FUT procedure almost three years ago. He came back a second time about a year ago for a 1000 FUE procedure. The before images were taken one month after his very first procedure. He's coming back in for one more tiny FUE touchup, which should complete his transformation.

Sorry. To me it just looks like his hair grew longer. Not great before and after considering its different angles, his hairline is covered and hair brushed forward in the after pics.

hairlosscpa, Doc and I are looking at his before and after images now. While his hair is longer than he kept it before, the transplant was certainly successful. He might have had additional progression of hair loss in the four years after his initial procedure. But, we believe the result is a success.

  12. When this patient first came to Dr. Arocha, he had significant thinning. Dr. Arocha performed a 3000 graft FUT procedure. The “after” images were taken approximately four years after his initial procedure. He just came back in for a second procedure, this time an FUE, to add density.
