  1. While state-of-the-art hair transplantation has a high success rate when performed by a highly skilled surgeon and team, every clinic will have some unsatisfactory results in their portfolio. Despite having all the boxed checked in terms of skill, experience and care, patient physiology is always the wild card.

In my experience, in the event of subpar results, ethical hair transplant clinics will typically offer a free or discounted followup procedure. I have also seen partial refunds offered in such cases. Full refunds are rare and typically reserved for cases where the poor results can be attributed to something specific or negligent performed on the part of the clinic.

Unfortunately but understandably, when a patient receives a poor result they may lose trust in the capabilities of their chosen hair restoration physician and become wary of undergoing a second transplant with them. For this reason, it's important to be aware in advance of the clinic's policy for handling such situations.

  2. Would be better starting a new thread mate

I've gone ahead and moved this post to its own thread. I have also deleted a duplicate that was posted to another thread.

Additionally, I removed the link to the IAHRS which is affiliated with the Bald Truth Network as they do not allow linking back to our community,

Regarding the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery (ISHRS), it is my understanding that it is merely a professional organization and that any physician who pays the dues may become a member. I don't believe they use any sort of vetting process.

As for the Hair Restoration Network being focused on US and UK doctors is not accurate. We prescreen and recommend physicians worldwide. The unfortunate truth is that many practicing physicians around the world do not meet our high standards. That said, our recommendation list is not comprehensive. Of course you'll find excellent surgeons across the globe that are not currently recommended by our community. However, we do our best to find those hair restoraiton physicians performing state-of-the art follicular unit hair transplantation and invite them to participate in our recommendation process. We also encourage members to nominate surgeons they feel are worthy of recommendation. Ultimately, the physician must agree to participate in the vetting process which includes addressing questions or concerns from our community members and some doctors do not like to open their work to public scrutiny.

No recommendation process is perfect. It's important to exploit as many resources as possible when performing due diligence. We believe we offer multiple tools and resources to assist prospective hair transplant patients in avoiding pitfalls and finding the best surgeon to meet their needs.

  3. Few hair restoration physicians perform 100% of a hair transplant. A patient should expect the surgeon to harvest the donor grafts and create the recipient sites.

In the case of FUE, this means the surgeon should punch out all the individual grafts. In the case of FUT, the surgeon will remove the donor strip and techs will dissect it under microscopic magnification. In both cases, techs typically do all the implanting. There are exceptions of course.
