  1. I chose strip because I don't ever really plan on shaving my head, and I wanted to be able to use the vast majority of my best grafts, at which point, I will have the option to tap out my FUE reserves.

same here.. that, in combination with yield vs. cost was a big selling point for me. I am very happy with my decision. since I already have the scar, I plan on going for another strip procedure (or two, who knows) before I start doing FUE.

  2. my FUT scar is pretty minimal, some nice work by Dr Mohebi.. I have buzzed it after transplant procedure, I think at a level 2 or 3 and nobody said anything.. my hair grows pretty fast though.. and I work from home so I don't have alot of people passing by behind me when I am sitting down, working.. why not get it done by a stylist the first time or two and have a professional's opinion? there are some great men-only hair stylists out there.. in Southern California we have a place called 18 and 8 and the stylists often deal with mpb or HT-procedure'd guys.

  3. I think that the extending in to a week thing is a lack of discipline. I have started to try to apply minox just at night because my hair in the day looks better without it. The minox drys it out I think. If I am in bed and almost asleep and remember, I'll get up.

I think its OK to skip a day here and there every once in a while, but I don't think I have gone 2 days without fin since I started. When I do one day, it's because I went out of town or broke my daily cycle and forgot or didn't have it available. If you don't get another procedure, the way you look now is the best you will ever look, so there is no reason the shorten that period that you are worry free enough to say "screw it." I would say that you should be diligent in taking your meds and humble about your result, remembering that the meds really helped your outcome and keep taking them and taking them on time and on schedule.

Thanks Spanker, for the high quality response!

A couple points you brought up are worth reiterating:

1- the fact that I stopped applying minox for an entire week (here and there) is a lack of discipline -- I needed to hear that.. time for me to shape up!

2- If you don't get another procedure, the way you look now is the best you will ever look, so there is no reason the shorten that period that you are worry free enough to say "screw it." that is a scary truth! wow, i just looked at myself in the mirror, and though I am in much better shape hair-wise than a couple years ago, I can not afford to get much worse than this!!! man...!

3- you should be diligent in taking your meds and humble about your result, remembering that the meds really helped your outcome and keep taking them and taking them on time and on schedule. yes! more wise words from the Spanker!

    Question for you:

how long have you been appyling minox just 1x/day? do you plan on continuing at that rate? I would certainly like to hear about whether you are able to maintain results by decreasing from 2x/day to 1x/day.. and if you are, I would probably try that.. it will be much easier a regimen, and probably decrease my burn-out feeling and minimize the chance of any more "F*** it days".

FYI- I also noticed minox seems to dry out my hair (its the alcohol-content, I presume), but my hair grows fast enough anyway that I don't mind. better to have dried out hair than no hair up top. maybe there is conditioner that you can use to balance out any dry-ing out effect of minox.

  4. I was hitting on this girl at a party last weekend. She was quite a bit younger than me and it was really just a friendly flirtation based around her hair style (Miley Cyrus' hair- this should give you an idea of how young and fine her body is, mmmmh!)... She really had her stylist put alot of effort into that hair due.

Funny thing was, later on at that same party, I totally bonded with this one older gentlement about, again, HAIR.. . (I guess hair is on my mind alot these days). We actually talked about hair transplants and I recommended to him Dr Parsa Mohebi, as he did a great job on my HT procedure.. I showed the older gentlemen my before/after pics and he was very impressed. When I got to know the guy better, he said that his daughter is at this party... the daughter turned out to be the girl was trying to pick up.... I did not go back to talk to the daughter again after that.. eventually on her ride home with her father, she was bound to find out that the guy hitting on her had a hair transplant....

maybe I shouldn't have been so nice to offer information about my HT to a balding man at a party... it can bite me in the butt, because he'd tell the daughter and it could kill sexual attraction, since I wasn't in the comfort phase with the daughter yet... it would be too soon for her to find out. (anyone remember Mystery Methods, Attraction->Comfort->Seduction phases are linear.. I was only in the middle of the attraction phase with her, too soon for intimate info)

Anyway, the point of this story is that hair is soooo important to everyone (I can talk about hair with anybody these days and they are all so interested in their own hair).. and I just thought it was a funny story to share!

  5. I get a few days every months where I don't take my meds, don't apply any rogaine.. the bad thing is that this can extend to a whole week.. which can cause my hair progress to move in a negative direction. my F*** it days is a slipperly slope.

Anyone experience this, or is this really a lack of discipline/immaturity on my part?

Side note: I have noticed that after not applying Rogaine for a couple weeks, my hair feels weak and starts falling out, thankfully Dr Mohebi's transplants are so strong and nicely placed that the Rogaine fallout is unnoticeable.

  6. I took a baseball cap with me to Turkey, but was paranoid it was or would touch the grafts. So we spent about 2 hours searching for a bandana which was much better.

I had a headband on, and the bandana tied around that.

The cool thing about a bandana is that you can make it as loose as necessary... as long as you are badass enough to pull the look off....

    good job man.

  7. If volumnizing your hair is your biggest problem, try using Pro Natural's Moroccan Argan Oil shampoo. It's gentle enough not to strip your scalp dry or cause massive hairfall unlike other shampoos, but it protects hair from thinning due to hair damage and hair loss. I've got healthy, volumnous hair after 2 months of using it. The argan oil really gets to the problem and makes hair grow out healthier and stronger, so I definitely recommend this shampoo! ;)

I wouldn't mind trying this.. where do you tend to purchase it from?

  8. Hi everyone,

I'm currently 13 days post op from my procedure with Dr.Feller (2148 grafts frontal 1/3) - So far all seems to be going well. I do have a several questions though and I hope someone with knowledge/experience could shed some light for me.

    1) I have been using Dualgen 15 with PG for the past two years. I stopped approximately 1.5 weeks prior to my surgery. Since I am currently healed (no scabs/redness on scalp) Should I continue to use Dualgen 15 with PG on the recipent area? Will my newly transplanted hairs become "minoxidil dependant?" I have heard/read mixed theories on this subject snd am confused as to what I should do :-/

    2) I get my staples out tomorrow and want to buzz down the rest of my hair to match the recipent area. I should be safe to do so correct? If so, can snyone recommend a blade setting?

    3) I am still currently using baby shampoo snd being very meticulous with the washing of my scalp. Is it safe to switch back to my normal shampoo Regenepure yet?

I apologize for the noob questions and yes I do have post op instructions. They just seemed to be somewhat vague and I value the opinions of what the forum members have to say.

    Thank you guys very much!

As far as Q's 2 and 3 are concerned:

    2) I think that, at the point that your staples are removed, provided you have healed normally, you should be OK with buzzing at any level as long as your scalp isn't sensitive or in pain to the touch.

    3) I think you should be safe switching back since you are beyond 10-days post procedure. Ask you doc if you have any questions since you are getting your staples removed anyways!

  9. I tried to avoid sun exposure on my scalp for 6 months.

I used Regenix shampoo for the first month (it was provided by the clinic) you can read about it by Dr Mohebi (Hair Restoration Blog » Blog Archive Dr. Parsa Mohebi Reviews Regenix » Hair Restoration Blog)

I wore a cap for the first couple weeks after procedure, but I wore the hat somewhat awkardly (higher and less securely on my head than had I not had an HT procedure)

  10. I never looked good with a shaved head.. so FUE was never a big deal to me.

I figure even if I were to go bald, I'd let nature take its course MPB-style.. so the FUT scar really isn't a detriment for me.

I'm all for the progress of tech in Hair Restoration, but as it stands, FUT is an excellent procedure, really not as painful as people make it to be in their minds (I was surprised at how painless it was for me, personally; of course I'm sure the drugs helped).

  11. I doubt you find it anyplace cheaper that Costco. They have it regular for $44 I think and once a year for $39 where I buy 3 packs of 6

oh wow, those are excellent prices.. the one I am looking at is $59.98.

thanks for your input! plus I generally trust Costco in terms of medication efficacy and stocking conditions.

  12. Hi All,

I tend to run out 5% foam much faster than intendend (I douse my whole scalp with it :/ ) and I really dislike standing in the lines of Costco or Target to purchase it.

I find some good prices on Amazon for the product and am wondering if anyone has experiences with purchasing it.. since it comes from an independent seller, is it reliable? My concerns would be whether it was stocked properly, in heat, or for too long, and would the effectiveness/efficacy be the same as if I were to purchase it in the store?

Not sure if I am allowed to provide a link, but this is the one I am looking at buying:

    http://www.amazon.com/NEW-Minoxidil-Treatment-Uncented-Ingredient/dp/B007Z75H0Y/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1398122873&sr=8-4&keywords=minoxidil

  13. wow bill,

you are a complete sell out...hopefully the rest of this community recognizes your intentions. My hope is that along with your greed, you lose all credibility. I forever have considered this a legitimate, honest network where people who suffer from similar circumstances can come and get great information. What a let down you are

umm.. no.. actually, I was very happy to see that I have the option of getting a 20% discount on all these hair products.

If Bill's team is able to create this ecosystem that enables all of us to share valuable information (and further, to receive discounted items), we should be very grateful. I think that DISpHAIR misinterpreted the service that Bill is providing by enabling users with high reputation to have access to discounted items.

That being said, my gripe is that the 20% discount still does not bring the 5% minox foam down to match Kirkland's price -- and I need it badly right now as I've run out of Minox over 1 week ago and am getting antsy. (If you add shipping rates, the price goes up even further).

(If the higher price helps to support HTN in some way, I might consider purchasing from the online store, but I would need to know that),

  14. I'd be OK with the "maintenance" - heck, I still use Rogaine and Propecia.. which takes time to apply the solution 2x a day (like brushing teeth) or cut the Proscar pills in quarters and remember to take every night... having to get refills at the pharmacy or the zoo of Costco lines. or the embarrassment of a hot chick in the cashier's line seeing my Rogaine purchase and then looking at my full head of hair (thanks to Dr Mohebi's HT procedure tho)... anyway, this is to say that "maintenance" doesn't put me off because the benefits of the maintenance far outweigh not having good hair.

The thing that DOES put me off about hair pieces it the extreme fullness of it... the ones I've seen in person (the people I've seen that I know that DO have hair pieces).. they were too full, hairs too thick, and too dark.. in combination, those features contrasted too much with the skin quality of the man, or the hair quality of the man's eyebrows.. basically, it just appeared that the hair was too young for the age of the man. One of these guys is a physician, the other a teacher. I do not know where they bought the hair piece, or if they skimped out on the price of one, and thus got a lower quality one.

But I am also uber-sensitive to hair and notice things more than other people, in regard to hair issues.

Although it was initially saddening to me to realize that at the current state of HT technology, one cannot hope to obtain a "Full head of teenage hair", eventually, (after my procedure with mohebi) I realized that if your surgeons plans your hair design well, if his artistry is high, he'll use fewer hairs and create an illusion of higher density, in such a way that looks natural. I guess when I use the term "natural" I mean that as a 32 year old man, my hair looks mature, not too much hair like a teenager, sure I'm a guy whose hair is less than when I was a kid, but I don't look like I have hair loss issues either (I was a NW 5 before surgery).

Its just my 2 cents. But if a person is happy with a hair piece, more power to them, and I support the concept entirely. I am just wondering, can you choose to decrease hair density over time without shelling out $$ for an entirely new piece? Can you color the hair, or go for hair cuts? Or is the hair style supposed to stay the same throughout perpetuity of the piece? (If I recall, Elton John has a collection of hair pieces and uses different ones for different appearances.. so that's probably the way to do it)

I've really enjoyed being able to go to a top stylist and getting my hair cut without my stylist ever noticing that I've had an HT procedure (though I eventually chose to tell her and have become pretty good friends with her).

Regarding contrast of the hair piece to the age, skin, eyebrows of the wearer, John Travolta pops into my mind.

Definitely no judgement, this is just my thoughts.

  15. one of the best things I've heard of is the improvement to HT wherein less scarring is likely (Piloscopy).. but when will it actually begin to be used, we're not sure... good reading:

"Beginning as early as 2014, the surgical technique patented by Dr. Wesley will receive FDA Approval and be made available to patients worldwide. Using this innovative approach, the benefits of current surgical practices (hair survival and natural appearance) may be enhanced and the appearance of scarring may be eliminated. In addition, post-operative recovery may be improved by becoming more comfortable and more rapid."

I went to ISHRS in Oct 2013 as a live patient for Dr Parsa Mohebi, who is a very engaged leader in the ISHRS conference, and I was priveleged to learn a little about this method.. there are some good videos available on this method..

anyone else know if "scarless" will start to be used soon?? it sounds almost too good to be true... i am excited!

  16. I wasn't aware Revivogen was still being sold. Not a bad shampoo as far as scent or providing appearance of volume.. I used it for years. But I definitely never felt it had an edge over other volumizing shampoos on the market. As far as dandruff, I personally used to use T-gel / Nizoral / or Head and Shoulders 1-2x a week interchanged with a volumizing shampoo 5x a week. (This is still my regimen).

  17. Daniel Craig has definitely receded at the temples. Sometimes you only notice when they have a shaved head. For example Joseph Gordon Levitt in 50-50 shaves his head with Cancer treatment and its really noticeable, I'd say Johnny Depp has had some work done. As for Tom Cruise, he is 51 or 52 and in Oblivion is underwater at one point with the thickest hair I've ever seen. I'm fairly sure he must wear some sort of hair system or just be blessed with God's best wishes. The amount of money these guys have they can get a full hair system done in their own home and no one would ever know.

Joseph Gordon Levitt has hair issues? I never would have guessed.

In fact, most of the celebs you bring up (besides Daniel Craig) are the ones who, if they actually do try to cover up any hair loss issues, have done a phenomenal job.

I will look out for them next some I see them on the screen!

Remarkable what can be achieved when you are committed to treating/working on your hair issues!
