  1. Maybe I'm being too hopeful but it seems like it may be something more than what I was experiencing before, as previously the hairs were miniaturizing but now the hairs that are shedding are the really good, thick strong hairs which is weird. Could other health problems (outside of vitamin deficiency) possible be the cause? It's just a weird head space to be in as I was previously OK with it as it had stabilized and I had the HT surgery so thought time was on my side. It's a bit painful to still be paying for the surgery while dealing with high levels of shedding again. I wonder if Propecia would help? I was given the OK to take it by one doctor who said it's fine if taken under medical supervision but every other doctor I've spoken to is against it.
  2. Just got my results and they are normal. I have no idea what to do or why on Earth it would be stable for 10 years and then increase significantly a year after I get into debt to pay for HT surgery! This is so overwhelming
  3. I am hoping to get it checked this week. I have a suspicion that it might not be working properly as there is a particular side effect I was getting that I haven't been getting for a while
  4. Hello, Just wondering if anyone knows whether Androcur can stop working after being on it for a long period.? I've been on it for about 9-10 years and over the last two months, have noticed a sudden increase in shedding (which was quite stable prior to this). I'm wondering if this means I need to change to another drug (thinking Propecia or maybe spironolactone) or increase my dose? I'm finding it very difficult to find a doctor to speak to who actually has a reasonable amount of knowledge about hair loss. Thanks
  5. I have no idea what it could be. There's been no change that i can think of. Is it possible that my body stopped absorbing the Androcur because I've been taking it for too long?
  6. Hello, I am a 28 year old woman and have been experiencing genetic hair loss since I was 18. I have been taking Androcur since then, which had stabilized the shedding and last year had HT surgery with Dr Wong. I recently had a blood test done and was found be to a bit low in B12, iron and vitamin D. I bought supplements for this in addition to a "hair, skin and nails" multivitamin (my choice, thought it may be good to add). Within a few days of starting these, my hair loss noticeably increased. After taking it for a week or two, I stopped taking them as I was really worried. The hair loss reduced a bit but was still not as low as it was before I started. I have seen my doctor and she said it's not possible for the vitamins to have caused it but it doesn't make sense as there can be no other reason for it (that i can think of). She said it's more likely for the deficiency to cause it but I have noticed a pattern. I restarted the supplements as my doctor insisted they were important (especially the b12) and the shedding has increased again. I don't know what to do. Even when I stopped taking the vitamins, the loss was more than I had become used to. Now I'm petrified that I spent all this money on HT surgery (haven't even paid off the credit card yet) and it's all going to be for nothing. I thought it was going to buy me some more time. The weird thing is that the shedded hairs are also all thick, healthy looking ones as well which wasn't the case originally. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? It doesn't make sense to me that medication which has worked for 10 years is just going to stop working. Thanks so much in advance
  7. Can biotin make hair loss increase? I started taking a "hair, skin and nails" multivitamin and my shedding increased noticeably pretty much a few days later. Or maybe vitamin d3, b12 or iron did it?
  8. Thanks Blake. I will definitely be speaking to my OB-GYN about it. I did ask about it briefly in the past and she said that existing hair loss seems to stabilize during pregnancy but that pregnancy-related shedding can occur in other woman. I may need to investigate this further as it seems a bit too good to be true!
  9. Hello, I'm a 28 yo female and I'm currently taking Androcur to manage genetic hair loss. This is contraindicated in pregnancy. I was just wondering if any alternatives exist to this medication that would be safe to take? Also, does anyone know how existing hair loss manifests during pregnancy - would it increase or stabilize? Thanks
  10. Hello, Not sure if you all still remember me but I posted quite frequently around this time last year. I had hair transplant surgery performed by Dr Wong in Jan 2013 and I'm getting some good growth. I think I will see final results within a few months as my hair is quite long. I was just wondering if any members on here knew about how androgenic alopecia manifests during pregnancy? Does it slow down or get worse? I'm taking Androcur which I have read is unsafe during pregnancy and I'm very worried about going off it as I have noticed increases in shedding even when I have been 1-2 weeks late in taking it. I can imagine the loss after not taking it for a year would be quite severe! I would appreciate any knowledge or tips about this. Thanks
  11. Nothing much to report at present. Any updates for you?
  12. Hello, As most of you know, I recently had HT surgery with Dr Wong. He suggested that I use Rogaine to maintain the hair I currently have and potentially improve the density. I know that the manufacturers don't recommend getting hair wet for 4 hours after applying Rogaine. My question is - if I apply Rogaine after work at say 5.30pm and then wash my hair at 9.30-10pm,would it still be as effective as if I had left it on for most of the day? I want to do it this way if I can because I have long-ish curly hair and style it in a very particular way. I also don't comb it after getting out of the shower. I would need to do this if I was to apply Rogaine after a shower. My hair looks best when I wash it in the evening, style it and then sleep on it as this gets rid of the "crunch" of the hair products, leaving a natural softer look. I have also read that applying Rogaine once a day is sufficient. Is that right? Thoughts?
  13. Thanks jollyfolly. It didn't make sense to have it locally when I paid for the surgery plus flights to North America for the same price that I would have paid to have the surgery done in Australia with a not so great doctor. Not worth the risk really
  14. No shedding yet. I guess it will be any day now. Hope it's not too gross/scary as apparently you can lose a tiny bit of scalp with the hair as well
  15. Exactly 3 weeks post-op today. Seems like the donor area is healing as I've noticed it is getting less sore. I've started to do my usual styling routine and use styling products. Feeling a bit anxious about the results but still have a long wait to go.
  16. Wow, that is a great result. I'm really happy for you. Hopefully you are able to enjoy it for a long time yet. I'm hoping that my result will be as noticeable as we had a similar number of grafts. All the best
  17. The staple removal was fine. There were a few that had a slight stinging pain but nothing to be concerned about. My donor area still feels a bit sore but I guess this will improve over the coming days
  18. Congrats. Your pain threshold seems a lot higher than mine, that's for sure! Glad that you got to explore Vancouver too. I would have liked to stay for another 1-2 days but unfortunately blew my budget in Hawaii beforehand We did get to see part of the city and Granville Island though, which was nice. Maybe we can visit again (for a better reason) in the future. All the best with it
  19. Wow, that's a long surgery. I thought my 5 or so hours were long. Hope everything turns out well for you. I'm feeling great now. Got the staples removed today which made me a bit more comfortable. Now just need to wait for the results
