  1. didnt have a creepy crawly feeling but i did itch like crazy. i just kept rinsing with water. it seems as though theres not a whole lot you can do other than to deal with it. i will say once the staples are out the itchy, tight feeling gets almost instantly relieved, or at least for me. good luck man!

  2. Ukresponder,Thank you for posting and sharing your scar pictures. I'm off to see Dr Feller in August and right now i can not wait.

How does the back of your head feel now, it is still sore or numb? I have read that numbness can reside for some months, is this the case for you?

I'm over a month and a half post ht with dr feller and there is still some soreness and numbness in donor. However by no means would I say it's painful or uncomfortable. Truth is, once staples are removed its a huge relief. The hardest part after staple removal is waiting for hair to grow :)

  3. Hey All,

I'm thinking of getting a HT. Just wondering what should be expected post op (ie swelling, bruising, ect)? How long was it until the HT wasn't noticeable? I've spoken to a couple of docs and they have recommended 2000 grafts at the front.

I need to take time off from work to get the op and don't have much leave.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The swelling would probably not last very long, and bruising is quite rare. I'm 6 weeks out and the pinkness in recipient is basically gone but for a couple of weeks it was very noticeable. I think skin tone is a big factor as far as pinkness from ht. everyone is different as far as healing time and looking "normal" after ht. I would certainly take the max amount of time off as you can get...

  4. Here is the post from Lindsey.. Reading this will definitely make you fell better.

" Here is the time line I tell people:

Today you will leave with a crew cut of new hair wherever we place it.

7 days from now you'll get your sutures out and most likely you won't have cleaned enough...but once you wash away any remaining scabs in the recipient area...you should look pretty good.

That hair will grow for one month and then just about all of it, AND any of your native hair in that area, will fall out.

Nothing will happen for 6 weeks, and then your native hairs will start to regrow. You'll think its our new hair, but its most likely not.

So from week 5 to 11, you will be balder than now, then at about 3 months you'll be back to baseline with your native hair.

At around 6 months, some of the new hair will be growing. Sometimes its earlier (luck) and sometimes its later(absence of luck).

1 year from today, I'd expect you to have pretty good results but its probably 15 months til you are max'd out....but no one can remember to come in at 15 months, so we do an even year.

If you are a revision of previous surgery, particularly a plug repair...add 3 months to the above timeline starting at the 3 month event noted above.

I hope this is helpful, and it seems to be pretty consistent at our office."

I had my ht at end of march, it seems as though a lot of my native hair has been growing in since and transplanted has fallen out, is that an oddity? Has anyone noticed their native hair growing in 1 month after ht?

  5. İ have never heard anything about the relation bw smoliking and hairloss. Also 2 days of not smoking before the procedure?? İm already thinking about how can i stand for hours in a ht without smoking and nver heard anything about "2 days before " thing. Anyone knows about this??

I'm not a doctor so I can't explain the exact reason why a patient should refrain from smoking, but the preop instructions I was given by dr feller were to avoid alcohol and smoking 10 days before surgery. Not sure if a couple of smokes could derail a hair transplant though. I guess if your gonna spend a fortune on a ht, why risk anything even it if it's a small risk?

  6. Is this something a doctor will be able to tell before going through with the surgery?

If I understand you correctly, your worried about hair on the sides and back falling out? This area is the donor region. Hair should be resistant to miniaturization in that area I believe. There is diffuse thinning which can cause hair from that area to fall out. If that's the case than ht may not work. I do believe it's quite rare, a qualified experienced doctor like rahal, feller, h&w will be able to advise you straight away about it, but its quite rare and I wouldn't worry about it unless there is a family history. Once again though, I'm no doctor...

  7. I've been doing some research about the various surgeons, I was thinking Dr. Rahal after seeing his reviews, I'm balding pretty badly and there are 3 questions that I've been contemplating a lot recently.

    1) After getting a surgery, I've noticed some people (especially post-op in the <3 month range) see sprouts of growth, what do people at their work/school/etc say? Does everybody simple know you have had a surgery and something, assuming I get one, have to live with? Or is there something people do to not make it as obvious, such as cut it short?

    2) If you're not completely bald, what do you do when your other follicles begin to fall out? Are there any pictures of someone doing a 2nd surgery (preferably with Dr. Rahal), how exactly does that work? Wouldn't it look weird having hair in the middle of your head start to fall and the hair on the front not?

    3) I've talked to some people on other forums and they suggested I use fin. to keep my current hair, what happens if my sides start to fall out later in life? Or hair on the back of my head?

Sorry for all the questions, it's just that this is a pretty big decision I'll have to be making soon.

To answer briefly IMO, hair growth is so slow that people you see everyday probably won't notice much because your hair is growing over a period of months. People that have not seen you for a long time and know your bald or thinning may see you and think right off the bat you had work done. Truth is your colleagues may know something is up based on what you might look like the first month after surgery not necessarily in month 3 onward.

And yes it will look weird to have hair at the front and thin in the middle and crown. That's why fin/propecia and/or rogaine are important if you want to try and avoid second surgery.

Not quite sure what you mean by hair on sides and back? Are you referring to donor region?if your worried about that hair falling out or have a family history of thinning in that region than you may not be a candidate for ht because the hair from donor won't be dht resistant...definitely a question for an experienced doctor.

    Good luck with your research!

  8. What does being a coalition doctor mean exactly? Is there a huge difference in results? Are there horror stories out there about the doctor I've considered? I'm not opposed to traveling, if it means that there will be a major difference in results.

Truth be told I've never heard anything bad about distefano. I am however skeptical of a doctor who advertises as heavily as he does. Once again, that means nothing if his work is up to par.

Have you met any of his patients? Are there many examples online of his work that are independently posted, i.e. not on his website? Have you met with any other doctors?

I researched for a year before I decided to go with dr feller. If there is one thing that I learned from the start of my research is to not jump into surgery without doing due diligence. There are hundreds if not thousands of examples on this site of guys who went to the local clinic, or with a doctor who did not utilize proper techniques. Don't make the same mistake they did, do it right the first time. Best of luck!

  9. So it's basically living under a hat for months? What about at work? Is it a bad time or is it not as bad as it may seem...

I'm lucky in that I can wear a hat to work. I certainly look as strange as I've ever looked and truth is I'm not sure how I'd be able to be out in public without a hat or bandana right now. Everybody is different but definitely looking forward to shaving my head in a couple of weeks after scar heals up a bit...I'd certainly recommend at least 2 weeks off
