  1. My procedure is an FUT. So are you saying that 1.5 inches is enough to cover the scar? In an FUT does it matter to the doctor how long your donor area is??

In a fut, or at least mine, the donor area is shaved, excised, and closed back up. An inch and a half should be enough hair to Cover the scar however I am not 100% sure...

  2. Thanks for the reply icecream. I don't think it was just breakage as the hair would grow back then, but there's definitely a loss of density in the front/bangs. I stopped using heat products 6 months ago, but hair is just falling out at a higher rate than ever now. Thanks for your experience with fin, I'm just waiting to get an appointment with a dermatologist before I can get a prescription for it.

All my hopes are in finasteride results now.

Hey man, it's definitely a plus that your being pro active about your hairloss. The sooner you act the better. However, just be prepared to have fin keep your hairloss at bay as opposed to regrowing a full head of hair. I was on it for years and just had a procedure in march for 1300 grafts. The best news is that ht have become extremely refined as of late and will most likely continue to get better, so if/when you're ready for one you should have a great chance at having a good head of hair ( assuming you pick a great doc and keep on meds) The great advantage you do have is your mpb is occurring at a time where you have many viable options. So, stop stressing and go enjoy life!:)

  3. I have been using heat products at very high temperatures extremely close to my temples and bangs, sometimes the flat iron would even touch my scalp at over 300 degrees, and I think this may have greatly facilitated my hair loss - I'd like to ask if this is a valid assumption?

Im not too sure this will make mpb any worse, however breakage can occur thus making your hair appear thinner. Also, you got a good amount of wavy hair, if your straightening it, it will look thinner as opposed to what your natural hair is. I would def stop using flat irons and stick to using a hair dryer for now. good luck!

p.s. i started fin 8 years ago and im all good as far as sides...start off with a low dosage and see if it has a negative effect

  4. How much is the longest time it can take to heal? It is still pretty tight after a full month. I am starting to think a mega session really is better than 2 small sessions so that you don't have to go through this twice.

Do some peopel feel tightness their whole life?

Can I make the scar worse by bending my neck and stretching after a month?

What about the recipient area? It is really numb. Is this normal after a month?

hey man, im over 3 months now and im just about back to normal minus a minor spot of numbness in the back of donor area. you should start to feel better day by day but rest assured the tightness will go away eventually but its gradual

  5. I would definitely consult with t&d and feller, but I feel I should tell you upfront that dr feller will definitely suggest strip for you. Not saying he wouldn't do fue, but I originally wanted fue and after 2 consults with him I went with strip...also there is a guy named spex on here who is far more knowledgable than I am, he can definitely give you sound advice. Good luck man!

  6. IceCreamMan.....I understand the need to keep a bit of a lower profile after a transplant. Like you I will be able to wear a hat, but I am curious as to you having such strong "dropping off the earth" feelings. Again I understand that the first 3 months are an "ugly duckling" phase, but is it really that bad where even wearing a hat doesnt help that much? I was hoping to attend some college football games a month or so afterwards and wear my hat. You think I will feel different after my procedure is done and I'll wanna be more of a hermit?

    Shampoo,

I guess I exaggerated a bit. I have gone out a number of times .. I just haven't been as socially active as i usually am. I live in manhattan and have been used to going out 4 nights a week or so, an I didn't really wanna keep going out as much cause I was wearing a hat all the time, so I'll lay low for a bit cause I figured my friends would wonder why I'm always wearing a hat when I never used to. But don't get me wrong, I have been doing essentially everything I always do, working out, drinks, dinners, movies, allman brothers concert, nba games...Just with a hat on.

I think there are a number of photos and patients who can pull off concealing a ht very well. For me there was no way...not trying to be a bummer, just giving my honest opinion. But I'm at 3 months now and things are getting back to normal and hairline is starting to come in...I'll gladly take 3 months off in exchange for not obsessing over my hair anymore:)

  7. We all have these thoughts, or at least I think we all have them. I was a total nervous wreck, and the night before I wanted to call the whole thing off and just let nature take its course. I'm glad I didn't.

Unfortunately it's IMO, hard to conceal a ht if recipient area is shaved, especially if you have a fair amount of hair. I, like you, had a good amount of hair pre op. people at my work, family, friends, would certainly be taken a back had I shown up with head shaved and a big line running across the back of my head. I do have the luxury of wearin a hat, so that has helped me immeasurably. and socially I have dropped off the earth for the past couple months. If you can take a good amount of time off that helps too, unfortunately most of us don't have the luxury.

I am basically at 3 months and really just now at the point where i feel good about my hair again and not hiding under a hat. Tiny hairs are poking thru and I feel that at the end of the day, this was all worth it. Or at least if my hair continues to grow its a ll worth it because the obsessing over losing my hair really started to get out of control for me.

As far as losing more hair, it could happen but I feel with my family history I should be ok and if I need a 2 nd ht I would not hesitate to do it again. I made the whole thing out to be much worse in my head than the reality of it is. You seem to have a great head of hair so I wouldn't worry too much about future loss. Also, you picked a great doc. Chill out, have a beer, don't worry much about it, you'll be very pleased after all this is over and you see hairs start poking thru, trust me!

  8. I amhaving a 350 FUE procedure performed at the end of the month to correct an asymmetry in my hairline. How loing before a can return to high intensity training: Weight lifting, running, biking swimming, and mixed martial arts. Has anyone had any experience with a similar situation and did you have any problems?

I started running about 2 weeks after ht, everything seems to be fine...

  9. I'm sure Spex will answer this thread, I'm interested in knowing both sides of this.

What I can say about Spex is that he's been fantastic in helping me from start to finish, I'm a little over 3 months post op and regard him highly.

I echo this sentiment. Dr feller to me seems More than fair in my dealings with him and most certainly an honest man and genuinely good dude. I've never met spex personally but all my online interactions with him have been nothing but positive and informative. Always 2 sides to a story...

  10. Ive wondered about this myself. I've seen both as well, dr feller shaved my recipient and it certainly made me look very strange. However I was told that its difficult to do a dense pack without shaving? If I did not have to shave recipient it would have certainly made recovery easier as I probably could have not worn a hat all the time for the first 3 months but if I get a better end result than its certainly worth it IMO...

  11. I'm only 10 weeks out from my procedure with dr feller and while a good amount of the native hair that was in my recipient area seems to be growing in, the past couple of days I've noticed very tiny almost minuscule hairs popping up around hairline...could this be the grafts coming in or is this just native hair growing back? Am I being to enthusiastic? Is it way too early to see small hairs popping up? Also, to whomever can answer, when is it safe to go into the sun without a hat or bandana? I went to the beach this past weekend but felt silly wearing a bandana the whole time, 3 months? 4 months? 5 months? Thanx in advance!
