  1. I love people who are anti-wig, all high and mighty, but they come across as idiots. Theres plenty of reasons why some choose hair pieces instead of transplants. 1.Some people just arent good candidates 2.Hugely expensive 3.One surgery otften isnt enough 4.Dependancy on med's for life which can have side effects 5.Results arent guarenteed 6.Surgery cant give you back the thickess of previous hair 7.Scarring, pitting and possible nerve damage Just some of many reasons people choose hair pieces. Theres no doubt for some HT's are brilliant but theres plenty of others who wished they had never had it. I read about someone who had what he thought great results froma top HT doc (he even posted pics) after time he grew less and less positive about those results and he now wears a hairpeice and he loves it. people are different, there are different options out there its personnel choice. Wigs like ht's have come a long way, people with little knowledge of how good hair pieces are thesedays still think its like a dead animal on top of your hair, but the results can be incredible, like a good HT a good hair piece is completely undectable. You should be more open minded. I'm sure the poster knows about HT's, to think he isnt is delusional. I'm not agreat candidate but I have started propecia and maybe in a few years I will have a HT if the doc thinks I will get decent results but in the meantime if it means wearing a small piece or using concealers then why shouldn't I, it will improve my look and it may mean I never have a HT. You have to use what you have available and are comfortable with. Oh and to answer the original posters question you could try Toplace they have a great forum where you might learna lot. I havent taken the plunge myself still using concealer but thought about using a very small hairline piece in the future.
  2. You got results just from a multivitamin?
  3. Try toplace, they have a great forum I'm sure you'll get some good advice on there.
  4. Yes it seems a few mixed messages in his post. Maybe he just had a bad day, we all get those. But he seems to have a grip on it, like most he understands its not the end of the world but an irritant. I do agree that there are a lot of photos out there where the person was very happy with there HT results but I wouldnt be, everyones different.. Its not a simple journey its a long road and the results arent always great. But people on here who have (in there own opinion) good results from Ht's will always be pro ht so I dont think trying to pursuade him to have one is necesarilly the most balanced thing to do. Just like those who didnt get results wouldn't be as positive about them. Only you know deep down if the ht route is for you
  5. I'm in a similar position as far as job and family. I also have been affected by the hairloss I'm not confident around new people and do avoid social events more than I used to. But you have to realise that you have a great life and you should realise there are millions of people out there who love to switch lives with you. There are soldiers coming back from war who have been mamed, disfigured, you have to realise how lucky you are and concentrate on the positive things in your life of which there are many (by the sounds of it). Sometimes you need to go through something worse than hairloss to realise how unimportant it is in the whole scheme of things (I hope you dont have to), just think about it, you are depressed because a few hairs on your head fall out, how silly is that? Hairloss doesnt stop you doing anything, you stop yourself. Yes its a pain in the ass but c'mon get some perspective. I think about hairloss a lot and only recently have I started fin, I'm not sure if I am suitable for a HT even if I am I may never have one, I may end up with a small hair piece along my hairline that I mix in to my hair, I might just grow my hair and use concealers, theres lots of things we can do thesedays to make ourselves look better, like someone said your putting all the emphasis equating happiness with hair, that sounds like a phycological problem more than anything and the above post may interest you. All I can tell you is be positive think of all the great things out there that can help hairloss, think of all the positive things in your life and be thankfull hairloss is the worst thing as many many many people would quite like to have that as their main problem in life.
  6. I agree with the above post. You have to get some perspective here, its hairloss it doesnt stop you doing anything, you stop yourself. You need to stop thinking hair is everything and the only way you will be happy or sucessful in life is with a full head of hair. I have a lot of hairloss and sure it sucks but I'm aware of where hairloss sits in the whole scheme of things. I'm a happy person with hairloss. That said it still pisses me off but you cant let it affect you so much that you have no life. Plenty of bald people have hot girlfriends and wives, plenty of bald people have great jobs etc etc....If it means getting professional help then maybe thats something you could pursue. I wish you all the best.
  7. If you do get swelling how long does it usually take to go away?
  8. I meant strip sorry. Would the picture I posted show someone who was still eligable for a HT?
  9. Thanks a lot. So this picture shows someone who looks like they are thinning in the area where donor would be taken, so would the doc just go lower?
  10. I've seen lots of pictures of scars after HT's and they do seem to vary. If you are thinning or bald around the crown would they take the grafts from lower than they would with someone with no crown loss? If you measured from the very bottom of your neck where the hair begins how far up do take the grafts can someone give me an extimation of how far up they take the donor (preferably in cm). thanks. p.s. The reason I ask is my thinning at the crown area is pretty bad (thats why I have started fin - I think I was in denial). If I go from the top of my ear straight across I dont have any thinning but its not a mile away from that area where I've thinned.
  11. I can't imagine anyone is in denial about wearing a wig thats why they wear a wig because they are bald. Like most things if you have a good hair piece no-one will know but that depends on many factors. if you dont start wearing until you've lost lots of hair then everyone is going to know but if you start wearing when loss is minimal then the change wont be picked up. Its like hair transplants you can spot the bad ones but the good ones are undectectable to the eye, there of course advantages and dissadvantages to both. Often HT's dont give the thickness a hair piece does, but a ht gives you real hair, etc etc etc.... Plenty of people have commented on HT's on various forums that I've read and I have to say if I had those results I wouldnt be happy but they often only get positive responses. So maybe some of the ht patientsmay well be in denial too. I dont reply as I dont want to post negative comments about someone who has just spent a small fortune. Plus the most important thing is that person is happy just like if someone wearing is happy. Its not up to me or you to destroy their confidence and ceratinly not start putting them down or bragging just because you've had or going to have surgery or dont want to wear anymore. Maybe you've met people who wear a piece and are in denial about being bald but that simply doesnt make sense as its a contradiction. Plus posting pictures I always feel is a bit irrelevant because you automatically know they are wearing so its impossible to say oh yeah thats not a wig because you know it is,but the bloke in the street wouldnt know and certainly isnt going to anaylize your hair as much as the person wearing.
  12. I believe fin can thicken existing hair and help prevent further loss. As for side effects, some experience them others dont. From what I understand if you stop taking fin the hair that you might have gained or saved whilst taking fin will fall out. I'm sure there are many posts on here about Propecia, like everything do a bit of research before you decide.
  13. I'm on fin now about 3 months in. Thatnks spex for the info.
  14. I have an island of hair either side of the receeding bit. This hair is thinning and it never seems to grow long. If I had a HT does the surgeon transplant hairs around these thinning hairs? Because when the new donor hair starts growing you'll still be left with these thinning shorter hairs around it? thanks.
  15. Hey Capelli11. Kinda nice to know theres someone else in the same boat (I'm sure there are many more). Obviously before I can have a HT I need to at least get some response from my meds, if I dont the best I can hope for is perhapes restoring my front bit. If I respond well (fingers crossed) it will probably delay my HT as at least then I will able to cover it up to a satisfactory way. I do use toppik sometimes quite a bit other times only a little, it really is great stuff and makes my hair so much thicker. I understand that your dating etc...And worried about maybe a girlfriend finding out, I dont have that problem so again thats probably another reason I haven't had a HT. I also work from home which takes away bad hair days, well at least bad hair days in public lol. I'm in my mid 30's, I feel I did all my partying and girl chasing from about 14-25, over a decade and as I got to my mid 20's I really didnt want to carry on anymore I wanted other thngs, this was before my loss...only a little before though. So I guess you have to weigh up all the pro's and con's, if I was after a girlfirend/wife or I was younger and out going to parties I might be more willing to have a ht. If maybe I was looking for a job and thought it would help my confidence I might be more willing, but those things arent relevant too me all leading to me wondering do I really want one? As far as a hairpiece goes I'm not talking about a full wig or even a partial just a very small strip along my hairline to help with my parting, it would be mixed in with my real hair just to make things look better, give me a more natural style. I guess you only really know you want a ht when your sitting in that chair having it done. Whatever you decide I wish you the best.
  16. If I was that flush I'd be happy to mate.
  17. Ha, I understand that. I havent tried a hairpiece yet but the fact it will be very small with my own hair mixed it isnt too bad. My thought is, why not try it, if I decide to have a HT in the future at least in the meantime my hair will look better. It would be nice if a top doc was vailable in the uk, that would make things easier.
  18. Because I have to grow it long brush it forward there is pretty much a limited amount of styles I can put off. I should thin some areas cut it abit but I'm then afraid that I will mess up and look worse or not have enough hair to cover the bald thinning areas lol. Thats why something along my hairline would really change my look. I just dont want to look back if I dont have a ht and think I did nothing. At least if I do wear a small piece along the hairline I could change my look until the HT. I dunno maybe I'll be rocking this look for years and no-one would know I'm balding lol, kinda funny when I think about it.
  19. well he's been so open about his hairloss so why keep this a secret, if it is concealer I find it hard to believe it was rooneys idea. I find it odd he rocked the bald look and now decides to wear concealer. If he is then its sad as it will influence people to perhaps go the HT route and raise expectations. People on here are much more qualified to say if it is concealer or not. I had no idea you could wear concealer on such short hair especially being a sportsman in rain and sweating etc.. I dont know what to think.
  20. I've thought about a HT for years now but never gone through with it. I'm 36 and I would say I'm NW3 - I've only just started Propecia so I know I'll have to give it a year to see if I respond. At the moment I grow my hair long and use some toppik and I have to say it looks like I have a full thick head of hair. The problem is the style I look like I have a really old fashioned crappy haircut. This has never bothered me until recently. I used to think as long as I look like I have loads of hair thats all that matters. I have thought recently that wearing a very small hairpiece mainly along the hairline that I would use with my existing long hair giving me much more options to style it would be a good way to change my appearance before a HT (If I ever have one that is). I know theres still a stigma with wigs but I wouldnt be wearing a big wig or even a small aprial wig it would almost be acting like hair extensions. Anyway back to the HT. I often wonder why i havent taken the plunge I have the money, done the research. I believe the travel on my own is a big part of it, if I lived near a top doc I'd of probably had it by now. Sometimes I'm angry with myself that I havent taken the plunge. I also relaise theres more to life than hair and also realise that just worrying about 'why' I havent had one is pretty insignificant in the whole scheme of things.
  21. Thats interesting. The papers do tend to take the most unflatering pic of him before the hairloss and now the best so the change probably isnt as big as it makes out. Guess we'll see ina few months.
  22. Why on earth would taking a tablet that takes seconds and could help to save your help be anything but a positive thing?
  23. Hope he isnt wearing concealer, because if he isnt and his results are good it gives me more hope that I could get a decent HT in the UK, but if they only did FUE I couldn't go as I couldnt shave my head.
  24. I cant see how shaving your head would accelerate MPB.
