  1. Interesting video. I really should commit to making a life long change for my diet, I feel like my hair loss has progressed more in the last 6 months than ever, and I know full well that was when my diet got a lot worse, moving out from my parents

  2. I'm not sure which size is optimal. I've currently got a broken 0.25mm and need it replacing, however I figured it might be a bit too small. I only really started using it, and generally just use it every few mornings in the shower before applying keto shampoo or minoxidil, but a lot of sources say it alone can also keep the hair in the living/active stage of the hair cycle

  3. Hey all

Don't post much now days, thankfully. I try and focus on my life but hair is always on the mind, in one way or another.

I had a haircut at the start of the year, pretty damn short and i loved it, however i was a bit worried that my hair felt sparse at the very back (where the nape would be, as if it was serious retrograde alopecia), but the top felt great, now ive been using concealers for years, so i was still doing this with the new short cut, and id be able to get a good look after a quick shower and towel dry, and wouldnt wash my hair for a few days, which in itself was a blessing for me.

Fast forward 3 months and I'm having my haircut again, and i went for an even slightly shorter cut this time, mainly just less off the front (fringe/bangs). The good news is that the back feels as good as ever now, and it was just how he tapered it in on the previous cut. In all honestly my hair feels great, and on the back, sides and top it feels and looks exactly the same as it did 10+ years ago, looking back at photos of me with short hair, and just from memory and feel. However, this time around my hairline feels even worse. just a general thinning, progressing into what i guess is NW2(/3?), maybe even just general frontal third thinning.

It's still super short, so obviously i have to rely on concealer on the immediate hairline, and a little hairspray. I've had a lot of years to tell myself not to let this bother me, knowing that i can eventually have a HT, and at 26, im just happy that i still pretty much have a full head of hair, after years of taking finasteride, even if it is though a little effort after the shower with some dermatch, however these days dermatch isnt cutting it and i have to use toppik.

But will it get worse? If I get a hair transplant in a few years for the front of my head, then thats fine and has always been the plan i guess, but im just worried that finasteride isnt working for me? Id post pictures, but theres not a lot i can show you that isnt already on my blog profile. Is my mid and crown likely secure, at this stage? I've been taking the meds for years now and rarely miss a day. my hair currently looks fantastic, but that was after applying the sprinkles, just to the front. from this logic, id assume a few 1000 grafts that i was quoted a few years ago, would be all id need in the front and id get the same look, but obviously this is all about planning for the future..

    Cheers,

    Rich

  4. I think you're maintaining your hair, it's maybe receeded a tad upwards, but not much. Keep taking the propecia, and enjoy the hair you have. I would not think about a transplant for years yet.

Thanks dude, means a lot. Even if I'm far from happy, at least hearing people saying it's not so bad, on here of all places, relieves a little of my panic and anxiety for a while.

I guess another huge problem for me is the daily effort I have to go through to make my hair look more presentable, but i will no doubt be easier than currently once I've had a trim and some style cut in.

  5. Nice work on the video. I agree that you seem to be in a good spot at the moment and can hold off on a HT for quite some time.

Thanks! I must admit I've been hardcore with making new video entries every couple months or so over the last few years, and I just wanted to have a nice little comparison video, to save anybodies time that i show it to :)

  6. added a new blog entry and cleaned up the older articles -

theres a pretty decent comparison video here, keeping in mind this is unstyled, and also wet hair but you kind of get the picture

I'm just looking for feedback really, what do you guys think?

I'm on propecia, and all the other usual stuff, hairloss definitely hasnt stabilised, but should this put me off getting a HT in the next 12-24 months?

    cheers

  7. Thanks for the responses guys, appreciate it.

Maybe you could have a chat to them before getting it cut? you don't have to have a wash/massage if you choose not to.

I know what you mean. Well I have to book in via an online web form, and i can choose my stylist and time, which is good as If i become a repeat customer, Im guaranteed the same person which would make me comfortable.

I guess I could use my excuse as i had to straighten my hair and if you wash it, its gonna take another 30 minutes on top of the cut to get it straight again. Haircut slots are 30 minutes, so an hour would cost a lot more.

    Wait.... are you post-op?

I'm completely pre-op, and will be for a little bit longer unfortunately. I just have always had a lot of anxiety around hair cuts, and now that im in a new location, its made it even harder.

    Rich,

Are you mostly concerned about getting a haircut because you're afraid they won't cut it right or are you afraid because you're concerned it might look thinner after it's cut?

The good news is, hair actually typically looks thicker when it's freshly caught because hair is at an even links and looks healthier.

It's more of a collective fear. Truth be told, I've had bad experiences with haircuts as a teen, so ive never really enjoyed going, but since worrying about hair loss its just gotten worse. i think i just hate people being able to look at my hair, my hairline, have full access to play with it and potentially see it without concealers.

You could also start trying to cut your hair yourself. l

I wish I had the skills to do that hahah. i guess it would be easier if i were to use clippers, but ive always been a longer hair kinda guy. maybe ill get into that style in the near future though, if i can keep the sides and back shorter, it might make life a lot easier, at least with styles.

  8. Hey guys,

I'm well overdue a haircut - only problem is I moved a month overseas a month ago, and I've also been extra conscious of my hair over the last few months, due to it gradually getting worse.

I need to get it cut, because I don't think I am employable the way it is right now, but I'm terrified to go to get it cut. it took me so long to get used to the person who cuts my hair back home, and even with her, i'm afraid to go, and put it off for weeks, even months.

I have a process when getting my haircut, i will apply a small amount of dermmatch so the loss is less obvious, and often straighten it, as I do most days anyway (I have pretty curly hair once its dried)

I spent this evening looking at instagram for local barber shops, and i found one that i was ready to take the plunge with, but then i read a local magazine review on them saying how you get your hairwashed, and scalp massaged with every standard cut. This instantly put me off, for reasons i'm sure you can all work out. everything of my preritual will go out the window.

    Any guidance guys?

    thanks

  9. Bit harsh, he's obviously very distraught by his hairloss to hide it from you, if you can't accept that maybe he's not the right guy for you? I don't blame him for hiding it, I didn't tell my wife for three years and she was totally cool about it and said that she suspected but if I wasn't ready to tell her then that was fine. They are white lies and are not a deception.

Kind of have to agree here. Clearly this is a guy who is very self conscious and insecure about his condition, and rightly so, aren't we all?

I honestly think at this stage you have to make the decision, is this guy right for you? not because of his hair, or lack of, but because of his insecurities and how its making you feel through him hiding all of this away. Your other option is to confront him about him, try and have a heart to heart and if you really don't care then tell him about it.

  10. Ok I can see what you mean now. It's always best to post candid photos, as up close, bright photos don't really give us a good impression of anything.

Looks like it just needs a little softening, at the immediate front. have you tried experimenting with toppik? hair transplant would fix this, but you might be able to get by with using a concealer until years later, when you could benefit more from another HT

  11. Hey rich

I'm sorry to hear hairlosse is affecting you this way as I know how that feels!! It's obsessive and tiresome!! I also know what you mean about losing a hair line as without that central core of hair to style even having decent coverage being it mid scalp and crown you can't get any sort of decent looking style you always look as if your coveting your balding!! I think if you really need it doing then go a head just make sure you chose surgeons wisely and the type of procedure you want/ require! Don't be price driven or go to someone who wants to max out your grafts at such a young age because hair loss is progressive and meds only really slow it down! I had fue 2500 is grafts and I'm really happy with the outcome but I was 38 when I had my procedure having said that my hairline was pretty much done by the time I was 20 and my hair loss hadn't progressed that much in the next 15 -18 years and I wasn't on proper is or min and didn't start proprcia until I was 37!! Chose a good ethical Dr who is recommended here any questions just as! I'm from the UK also!!

Thanks dude, I'd love to see your before and after pictures/thread if you have any?

  12. mynameisrich--

I can sympathize w you as I was in your shoes when I was 25, thinning hairline and starting to form a crown bald spot. But I was starting to diffuse thin (density going down all over) as well. I had a hard time styling my hair every day, conscious of how it would look from different angles, etc.

The problem as I see it now (hindsight is perfect , as they say), is I had a wrong frame of reference. I was chasing who I looked like 5 years ago, the younger me. I didn't realize that I still had a head full of more hair than many men in their 30s , and I just needed to make sure it was styled properly. This is where cutting your hair a little shorter can help to see if you like that look. Also start to grow a beard or a stubble , depending on your face 's shape , it may give your face a little more length and make you look more mature and professional. Spend some time with a hair / image consultant to see if they can give you tips on styling etc . That few hundred bucks may save you spending thousands on an HT.

Then finally at age 28, I decided to get a HT -- focused only on the hairline , kept it high and mature (30s age look) . If there is one piece of advice I can give you to follow over everything else -- don't waste a single follicle of hair on your crown at this early stage , until you know your hair loss pattern. Run away from any doctor who says he will sprinkle a bit here and a bit there depending on whatever you , "the patient " wants.

As patients at that early age , we know jack s... t (pardon my expression) . We need the doctor to advice us based on their vast knowledge and experience . I won't mention my first HT doc here but you can look it up based on my other posts, he gave me very sound advice 11 years ago and one I am still grateful to him for.

Also know this -- once you start down this path , you will need more HTs . So be prepared for that. The first HT is always a big step, but then you get caught up in what we call here " hair greed " and also for others like me, a means to continue chasing progressive hair loss . As for me , I have been through 3 HTs over 11 years , and may still get a fourth one in a few months , which will hopefully be my final ( i hope).

Last point --- we are always more critical of our looks than others are. Other things in life like how you conduct yourself, how you come across, how much $$ you have , have a bigger influence on our circle of friends, acquaintances, and love interests . The only problem occurs when our self image starts to affect things like "how you conduct yourself, how you come across, how much $$ you have" . Hence if you want a hair transplant to boost your confidence and have the means to do so, go for it. Don't wait and let life pass you by. But go into it with your eyes fully open. Best,

Thanks for your words, man. I checked out your pictures and i hope you get great results with your latest and next HT if you decide to go for it, things look good though, no doubt much better than things would have looked if you let nature run its ugly course.

I can't grow a beard. shitty genetics, nowhere near enough beard density to pull off anything that doesn't look scruffy, so i'm just leaving that for another decade, probably haha.

Yep, youve hit the nail on the head. I know nobody else really gives a shit about my hair, but i've come to accept that i'm always gonna care, and thats all that's important.

I think I can see myself going for it in the next few years, depending on when i really can't take it anymore

  13. All good feedback you've been getting on this thread and I echo their comments.

If you're not able to wait any longer to get your hair restored, then be sure to go with a physician whom you trust and he/she takes your young age into consideration.

How long have you been able to take the 1mg finasteride on a daily basis?

I was on and off it for several years, and never at the full dosage. I've been splitting proscar at a 1mg daily dosage now for a year. i don't think i've missed a day. no side effects anymore.

  14. Thanks for the comments all. Well you can see pictures and videos in my hair restoration blog, linked to this profile.

Here are some screenshots from the most recent video i shot about a week ago, hair is wet at this point, not long got out the shower.

Keeping in mind i wear my hair forward (think bieber, but without the juvenile hairline), straightened, but now its getting thinner on the sides of the hairline, i cant wear a nice thick fringe/bangs anymore. rather a thin front contrasting to the rest of my head.
