  1. Hello! I am someone who liked (yes, all in the past...when I had a head full of beautiful hair ) to try different styles on my hair. Some used to come out good while some didn't look good. I experimented with different types of hair parting, styles and lengths. All along, I had many friends advising me that too much of change in terms of combing hair and the changing angles affects the hair roots in a negative way and that there could too much pressure on the roots causing them to become weak Now, the simple question is...how much of such a claim is true? Can too much of styling (am not even referring to hair products here, just the way you comb and style your hair) have any adverse effects? Comments appreciated
  2. mrsundeep If you decide to give medication a try, there is no point in giving it just a couple months before you take the plunge. If you had researched enough, you know that finesteride & minnoxidil most of the time take almost 7 to 8 months (some cases even up to an year) to yield results. So, if you are going to try medication, give it ample time for it to work
  3. feelzgood - This is too good a result. And, the hairline design looks good on you too. I didn't realize how good the result was until I saw your Pre-HT look. Awesome
  4. mrnice - I am not really sure if I understand, are you saying you mentioned your doctor's name in your post and it got censored in this forum? Not sure why it was done if that's really the case. Sounds strange nevertheless
  5. magodiafano... I can answer a couple of questions... Here is a good article on using concealers immediately post-op. I guess its safe using them after a week's time giving the donor enough time to heal enough I am sure you would've received enough instructions from your doc. And, yes, you have to touch your head for your wash That said, as far as the post op care is concerned, its best to follow your doctor's advise
  6. Did the doctor site any reason? I couldn't find any such claim online. Its strange that he sees H&S not good for hair. A general question, do you shampoo your hair daily? I was just wondering if washing hair just with water (without shampoo) will help the hair anyway..
  7. Hi Bishal84 Have a look here. I had a similar experience with my HT too. In my case, I was a tad too gentle with the grafts. Even otherwise, as I have read online from other users' experiences, its normal to see some grafts still intact. You could see them slowly shed in the next couple of weeks. Maybe, you can try applying more pressure on the recipient area than you've been doing all this while. This shouldn't be something to worry about, I guess...
  8. Your signature says you take lots of stuff! It really should end up in a negative NW1:D Your 'Before' and 'After' pictures should be really worth a watch. Just curious, have you shared your pics somewhere? Anyway, thanks for the response. I did some research too and I found its safe to use Biotin. I am planning to add it to my regimen from tomorrow. Wish me lots of growth and healthy hair
  9. Hello... I had my HT roughly 4.5 months back. I have been alternating between Panteen Pro V anti dandruff and Head and Shoulders anti dandruff shampoo over an year and a half now. I shampoo my hair daily and I started this routine on an advice from a hair specialist to counter extra dandruff in my scalp. Is this a safe practice? I mean, do these shampoos have any adverse effect on hair on daily usage? Reading about frequent Nizoral usage and its effects made me slightly paranoid about shampoos and hence this question Thanks for your comments
  10. Hello... I had my HT roughly 4.5 months back and had started on Finasteride after a couple of months post the procedure. Effectively, now, I have been on it since around 2.5 months. Right now, from what I see, I am going through the shedding phase (am assuming its the shed as it has started since 2 weeks and the timing agrees with the Finasteride shedding phase from what I have read) Is it safe to start Biotin for good hair growth in parallel to Finasteride at this point? I am on a 1 mg dosage of Finasteride now and I take it every day after dinner, what is the best/most used dosage of Biotin and when do I take it? Thanks for your comments...
  11. Given that HT practitioners are potential life savers, this is a real good idea. I am sure it will be one big task to choose the winner though. Also, not to favor only those related to HTs, how about giving an award for 'Best Application of Concealer' I would apply for a nomination right away!
  12. Cant agree more. Why not try a good anti dandruff shampoo for a month and check if it helps?
  13. HaiRisWhere - Yes, concealers do give a good illusion of dense hair, if applied right. If you are bothered about the price of the fibers, I guess something like Dermmatch will suit you better. From what I have read, they are better in terms of value for money and even the application lasts longer. Once, the application dries out, it can only be removed my a hair wash with shampoo From my own experience, the fibers have been life savers. I haven't used the ones like Dermmatch though
  14. Comments, anyone!? Basically, I was just looking for some reassurance from someone that this is in-fact shedding and not some permanent loss. That way, I can be at peace with myself that the shed hair would come back (probable many, if not all of them) Thanks!
  15. Hello All... Here's an account of my experience with concealers. Since this is more on concealers than HT as such, I have added details on the Shampoos, Sprays and Concealers forum here
  16. Hi... I had managed to work from home for close to 2 months after my HT. There was no more escape from going to the workplace, I had to report to work from the end of the 2nd month.I asked around/did some research and concluded that it was safe using a concealer I decided on using a fiber type rather than go for something like Dermmatch as I wasn't comfortable applying pressure on the recipient area and pull out some hair inadvertently during the application process. Just sprinkling some hair fibers on top appealed to me better I couldn't buy my supply of branded hair fibers like Toppik or Nanogen in time, so, I had to settle for an un-branded one from a local hair clinic. I wasn't sure if it will work fine for me. But, I didn't have a choice, I had to use something and finalize something before I reported to work For the first few days, applying the fibers was a tricky job, no doubt. Thereafter, I found the right amount and angles and I can claim that the fibers have been life savers. As many say, less is always more. And, you get there by experience. I apply mine after making sure my hair is dry after a shower. I neither use a spray applicator nor the locking mist. After application, I slightly help the fibers with my finger tips to permeate through my top layer of hair. When applied right, the hair fibers are virtually undetectable Take a look at some pics of mine Before application and After application Comments welcome...!
  17. Hello All... I am about to touch the 5 month period post my HT. I had started Fin (Finpecia) after around 2 months after my procedure. So, now, I have been on it since close to 3 months. I take one tab of 1 mg daily after dinner Since I had started Fin, I could hardly see any hair falling out. I am not implying that Fin started action straight away. It could be just that my recipient had been shaved for the procedure and all the newly planted grafts had shed. So, normally, there was very little to shed anyway. I even carefully checked during my shower and found that I was losing about 5/6 hair daily (talk about someone paranoid about hair loss ) Now, since 2 weeks, I am seeing an increased amount of hair fall. I even counted about 20 and even 30 on a few days  Also, I don't find this fall concentrated on any specific part of the head. Its from the sides, a bit from the crown and a bit from the recipient (my frontal/hairline), basically all of my head! From what I have read, the shed sets in at 2 months and could last a few months. Am I going through the dreaded shed phase I have always read about? I could assume things, but, thought it would make sense to check with the experts! Right now, I am not on any other medication. I just wash my hair using a Head & Shoulders anti dandruff shampoo daily. Also, I apply a hair concealer daily too Should I be altering my routine or be taking any other meds? Or should I just let this phase pass? Do help me with your valuable comments. Thanks...
  18. Hi Mustard... Take a look at this thread, you'll get a feel of what to expect at the procedure. The procedure itself is pain-free since you are on local anesthetic. Its the aftermath, that's going to be more painful in terms of worries, depression and not knowing what to expect As far as putting you into sleep, not sure why you have to go to such an extent. Once you have the anesthetic administered, you wont feel a thing. And, there will be a few more pin pricks in case you feel slight sensation from time-to-time during the procedure. And, of course, you'll be prescribed some tabs for a few days to heal the donor area and kill the pain For the sake of your hair, you have to experience the pain of a few pin pricks...I guess there's no way out of it All the best!
  19. Hello... What is the minimum application frequency that one could use with Minoxidil to be able to derive its benefits and good growth? I read about a few using daily and some using it every other day. Anyone here applying it less frequently and still getting good results..? Also, till what maximum period do the newly grown hair stay once someone stops Minox application completely? Do add the details on the '%' type of the Minox that you used as well when you share your experience...Thanks for your comments
  20. Its a great relief to know that this experience isn't out of the ordinary and that several of you have experienced it before. Thanks for your comments Gillenator's view about the shafts' moving through layers of tissue sounds logical. However, its strange that not all new hair shafts look this way, some do appear straight and normal very similar to the native hair. Anyway, I hope all new hair growing out even out soon. Thanks again
  21. Hello, I am not sure if this question makes real sense, this is just for my curiosity's sake I was reading some posts on a board and some articles online about how someone used Minox for a few months to grow some beard hair and how almost all the hair that grew was last once the Minox application was abruptly stopped. Now, I have read about hair taken from beard used in a few cases for HT My question is, if someone grows beard hair using Minox application and then uses some of it for a HT, will the transplanted hair behave the same way as conventional donor hair (from the back of the head) would? Or, is there a risk of losing all transplanted hair as they were grown by applying Minox in the first place?
  22. Spanker, I was in-fact referring to the industry in general and not this community alone. That said, let me check out the guidelines. Yes, I agree, I have seen community members pouncing on anything that looks suspicious helping the uninitiated Shutter speed, may be yes. Also, as I had mentioned, if the lighting is right and bright, half the job is done as far as showcasing the results as they are. More often than not, good lighting exposes bad results. Anyway, thanks Spanker for the response
  23. Just checking again if anyone else has any comments or has experienced something similar
  24. There was an instance where I had run out of shampoo and I had to just wash my hair with just water. Interestingly, but for some small quantity which went away with the hair wash, post the shower, my hair still looked as if it had the concealer on it, also, it looked very natural. I guess it takes a decent amount of shampoo to completely wash the concealer away. I am not sure if leaving some traces of Toppik for days together is a good idea though....
