  1. hi rws, congrats on your ht. had a look at your pics and blog, i really like the hairline position. im no expert other than having had an op myself, but the work looks nice/clean etc. Look forward to reading your updates and seeing how you get on. I went to the US for an op as all the forums didn't rate any of the uk clinics so would be really keen to see your results. Its a real downer when the hair starts shedding but these forums are fantastic support, not sure i wouldve got through it without the comments and encouragement from the guys on here. best wishes
  2. Wow. These results are looking amazing, what a transformation since the last pics. From what i've seen on other journals you look well ahead of the game in growth. You must be really happy!, I can only hope my results will be as good as yours!!. All the best.
  3. Hi there. Having also been a wearer for many years I guess im a bit of an expert now. Which salons have you consulted? I wanted to give you my take on your questions.... 1. is the system taken off every nite? No. Most modern systems are hard bonded to your scalp (method depends on type of system) and only need to come off when the glue starts to weaken. After a while you work out how long this is for your scalp but usually anything up to 3 or 4 weeks, sometimes less. The oil in your skin and how much you sweat can affect this. 2. if a system is taken off e.g every 2 weeks , is the glue or tape that strong to keep holding the skin for so long?? Yes. You normally get plenty of warning as well as you start to feel the system slowly loosening. 3. what if a child or partner mildly pulls my hair? any chance of the hair system coming into their hand? No chance. Or not in my experience, when its on properly its on and bonded (even with just tapes) it isnt going anywhere even with a good tug, ruffled hair or pull. Even if you know its time for maintenance its unlikely to come off, I never found it on my pillow. 4.can a hair system survive extreme sweaty conditions? ( i mean places like dubai where it is pitch hot n lots n lots n lots of sweat all day long) Yes in my experience as I worked out at the gym every day with one on. Sometime the glue melts quicker if your really sweating so the time between maintenance will be shorter. A lot of sun will make the system fade quickly, if the condition of the hair is still ok colour can easily be added (i used just for men). 5. can i do hair transplant and wear a hair system on top until the transplant starts to show results ? is it practical n possible? I struggled with this one and best to ask your HT doctor. I had a system made to sit in front of the hair transplants and bigger so it could be attached with clips. My doctor said it was better not to wear the system or limit the wear. I decided not to use the system in the end as I didnt want to waste the money I had spent on a ht. 6.i read it on a few sites tht u can even swim with a hair system? must be marketing slogans i thought! any thoughts frm u guys? Yes you can (it wont come off). But the chlorine in the water will wreck the hair and probably bleach it an undesirable colour and will fade a lot quicker. Also, even with the best system in the world, it will be very easy to notice when you get out of the water that its a hair system. and a final one 7. if the system is worn for lets say 2 weeks is it washed n cleaned with shampoo conditioner etc? and if not does it not become dirty n messy like it happens to normal hair if not washed for a couple of days. n on the other hand if the hair system IS washed every 2 days does it not wear it out? It wears out quicker if you dont wash the hair as the hair becomes brittle. You would need to wash and condition the hair regularly every couple of days (a good supermarket shampoo and conditioner should do) to keep it looking natural, every day its best to use a spray leave-in conditioner. Its also best to go to the salon for it to be properly cleaned at least once a month. IF you ask my opinion about hair systems I can honestly say when I first started wearing I felt it gave me a new lease of life and it did. in the early days (maybe because of my age) nobody seemed to notice and I never seemed to get found out. It all depends on finding a good stylist and quickly learning how to style it yourself. Its got its limitations, even if you get a lace front the hairline needs to be cleverly styled to pull it off. The only problem is that you tell yourself youll only wear it for another few years but they are hard to give up. Towards the end of my time wearing I felt trapped, not being able to go out without one and not wanting to go out because i was wearing one (and it felt like everyone was looking/laughing). I never found them helpful in relationships, particularly when its time to have 'the conversation' about your hair, if they hadnt already worked it out by then.
  4. Thanks Jayc, i really appreciate those comments.. its a waiting game right now and not much change at the moment but hopefully will have more to report soon. Having read your threads I hope your research is going well and you have found a way forward for your situation and i wish you all the best with it. I would be interested to know how you get on.
  5. Thanks guys, really appreciate the comments. Will keep the journal updated!
  6. Thanks mac1, Ive been thinking about it, I'm a bit nervous though as the hair is patchy and the surrounding hair is camouflaging it. As the new growth is very slowly starting to sprout I will haveta do something. I might start with a higher grade on the clippers and work down!
  7. Hi m8, Definitely agree with David to do loads of research. From the research i did dr Farjo is the only dr worth considering in the uk although its a long waiting list for a consultation (that must say a lot about his popularity), if your prepared to go abroad, most of the world class drs seemed to be in the US and one in Belgium.
  8. as a recent patient it wasnt anything like that for me. my experience of the clinic, staff, scheduling etc was absolutely fine. If anything, i messed them around with the dates i wanted to go in. the lady in admin there was brilliant great comms, replies same day, really honest, caring and reassuring etc. considering i had 5 long days of back to back surgery i can give an actual patient experience of the clinic. i cant fault the skill or care of the dr or his staff who looked after me the whole time. ive had good comms and assistance from the clinic and dr since whenever ive been in touch. As far as contact with the dr beforehand, i had full access anyway i wanted - email, phone or a consult in person was there if i wanted one - full details of the procedure were explained and in writing. price per graft was about the same as FUE elsewhere in uk and europe.
  9. looking good, the hairline looks like it will be awesome when it all comes through.
  10. Many thanks for those comments E.S. The ratio of 2:1 (BHT:scalp) with scalp only used in the hairline and temples
  11. Thanks guys. I was wondering if anyone knows if i am likely to shed anymore grafts at this point or if thats all behind me and uphill from now?. must admit I wake up every morning and straight away check whether the hair is still there.. have been seeing some hairs in the sink this week :-s To answer your question Frankyknuckles, Ive been shaving the sides down to a no.1 guard on the clippers and leaving the top alone.
  12. Just posted my 11 weeks results, will post again at 3 months. http://www.hairtransplantnetwork.com/blog/home-page.asp?WebID=1868
  13. hi mate, how are you? i just wondered how you were getting along, you must be nearly 3 months post op.. hope all is well.
  14. Hey Secondtime, Hope all is well. How are things going with the appearance of pimples - do they go down on their own or are u using anything on them?. In last few days I just started to get a couple which I think is too early to be new hair but I read on this forum they are normal.
  15. Dr Charles & Sparky, many thanks for your replies which is really reassuring. I think you hit the nail on the head Dr Charles and will try to put the mirror down now. Sparky, absolutely, I will update the profile regularly when stuff happens. Im going to post today pics for 2 weeks post op. As its all starting to shed now these might be last until I see some new growth.
  16. Hey guys, I am into the third week since my first procedure and noticing some hairs shedding, which is obviously expected and normal. What seems to be happening is that rather than the hair being completely booted out from the root, the hair seems to be 'snapping off' leaving a stuble of a hair remaining (maybe 1mm long). Does anyone know what this is as i am wondering if I'm likely to keep these until the new growth starts up and pushes through, they will continue to grow or whether they will also probably shed as well?. My story and post op pics can be found on click through to my profile but really dont wanna start a debate on FUE Vs Strip or doctor Vs doctor or anything like that.
  17. Hey, thanks for the reply and the comments you left. I had 5 long days of surgery and more or less 7,500 grafts. I guess I was just trying to work out what to do when the transplants eventually shed (some have already started) as I didnt have any hair there to start with. I guess its probably hats for the next few months or maybe another hairpiece although I m told thats not a great idea after having a transplants (if anyones got any thoughts on that subject please let me know).
  18. hey secondtime, guess i must've been in surgery a few weeks after you, your ht looks gr8 from the pics, keep my fingers crossed it starts growing in really quick 4 u. I'm dreading the shed which cant be that far away now. Feels really unfair to suddenly have this hair and know its going to shed really soon. Can i ask if you kept a stuble or some appearance that hair was there (maybe like as if you had buzzed right down but hair was still there) or is there no evidence of hair at all?. I have noticed a few hairs that look like they have snapped off say a mil above the skin, not sure if thats a shed hair and they will all go that way..
