  1. Byron,

    Congrats on Taking the Plunge!

I recommend inducing the mediccation slowly by building up the dosage over the course of a month or two.

I would start taking .5mg a day (a pain to cut up) every other day for a week then .5mg a every day for a week then slowly build up to 1.25mg each day

If you're taking the 5mg FIN and cutting it up.

I'm not a doctor but just my personal recommendation to try and prevent such a shock to the system.

Evaluate your self after 12-18 months and see what difference has been made...and Pictures! They are the best motivation!

I'm sure you know about the shedding period which can last I believe up to 4 months, but at least you know that your body is responding to the Finasteride in a positive way!

Good luck and keep us posted!

  2. Hey Mdhuhg2- I have used Minox for a while now and I noticed a lot of regrwoth and thickening from Minox. Check out my forum - http://www.hairrestorationnetwork.com/eve/156479-minoxidil-temples.html

I have also started Fin for the last 3 months and I have noticed a lot more regrowth! I understand the initial worriness about the Fin side effects, but in my personal opinion it has been worth it. Even though I think it caused an outbreak for me, there is no guarantee it was from that. I am waiting for it to cool down before I take more as I am on a course of antibiotics, however I have not experienced any negative side effects in terms of my libido or ED.

    Good luck with growth!

  3. Byron- Do you have any photo's? Have you consulted with any Doc's regarding your hair loss?

Nothing wrong with generic Fin :D that's what I take. But I can understand your skepitcism if they were bought online.

On an update note- Some little thin whispy guys have become hard and prickly! However I am on an antibiotic medication for my Cycstic Acne...which conicedently started the same time I started Fin. I am taking the decsision to stop taking the Fin whilst I am on my antibiotics and hope that clears everything up. I will then restart Finasterdie in Feb when I am off the antibiotics and will see whether Fin really is the cause!

Even though the Dermatologist told me know way Finasteride would cause the cystic acne and he thinks it was Biotin, I want to stop for a couple of months just to make sure.

  4. Hi Newby,

I know that it's the Fin as well because I was on Minox alone for a year and recently started taking Fin when the minox reached a limit to where no new grwoth was happening. Now I have a lot of new hairs and I'm sure it's the mixture of both Fin.

I only built up the medication for Finasterdie as I was scared of the side effects.

  5. Thanks Sean! Loving your results so far and can not wait for the results this month!!

Well I've noticed quite a lot of miniaturized hairs grow around my temples, as you can see the camera doesn't quite capture all of them...hopefully in the next few months I will be able to see them become a lot thicker. I've reduced to 1.25mg 5x a week dosage of Fin.

Going to be uploading a bit more consistently now! I'm going to be assessing my hair after 12 months of Fin and will see whether I want to still require a transplant or if I am happy with my results.

  6. Finally some updates! I must apologize for the delay in updates!

The shedding has finally stopped. I do not see any hairs in the shower or my hands when I run my hands through it! Yay!

As you can see in my pictures there is a lot of small growth (some thin white wispy hairs) especially in the Front Right of my temples! Can't wait to see the hair thicken out even more!! Reduced my dosage of Fin to 1.25mg a day and the Acne has certainly recessed and begun to clear up.

More updates to come next month! Will cut my hair shorter too

  7. Personally I would attack the crown next...however that's just me personally. It really is down to you and how you feel about it. If you don't like it change it :) I think with the Fin and Minox it should be nice, stable and full within a year or so. I would try out the meds first and then assess your situation next year this time.

  8. Personally I am saving up for FUE, and will book a procedure once I've been on Finasteride for a year and will assess my situation then.

I chose FUE as I want to be able to wear my hair short and not have the scar from FUT visibly noticeable.

Look up Hair Restoration Results Posted by Paitents and also Results posted by Leading Hair Restoration Clinics and compare photos and experiences.

Good luck! Let us all know if there are any other questions you have :)

  9. Hmm well in a nutshell-

    FUT-

Strip method where the Dr will cut from ear to ear and will usually leave a pencil thin scar

    Cheaper then FUT

    Great for high graft count

    FUE-

Less invasive in terms of scarring, small punch holes that are barely noticeable

    More expensive

Greater risk of damage to follicles once removed

Great for small graft count and shorter hair styles.

There are benefits and negatives to each procedure and I haven't listed every single one but it really depends if you want to have a long scar and wear your hair long to cover it or if you want to wear your hair short.

Bare in mind that you may not be a suitable candidate for FUE, best to leave this analysis up to a recommended Dr on here.

I have attached a copy of someone who has had both FUT and FUE. You can see his scar from the back of the head and you can see the punchole marks where he recently had FUE.

I would honestly contact several Doctor's on here with the photos they require and have them assess your situation :)

  10. Hey everyone!

I saw my dermatologist yesterday and he told me that Fin was not causing my Cycstic Break outs!

It will be from the biotin I am taking in my Mutli-vitamin it was too strong a dose for my body!

I have been giving some antibiotics, an acid face mask to apply at night to help reduce scarring and some spot serum to tackle the nasty red guys!

This makes me super happy about Fin- I have cut down the amount I've been taking. I was on 5 mg then went to 2.5mg but now I have reduced to 1.25mg a day...just to save on money etc....

Pics of my hairline to follow soon as I get my camera fixed!
