  1. That's true Kamin, but I've nothing better to do, so I'll answer in brief: How long the doner area will stay red depends on your personal reaction, size of HT, skill of doctor, so its impossible to answer. I had a fairly large HT of over 4000 and six weeks into it I still have slight redness. Rogaine: Nobody knows for sure, but a few days after procedure, you can probably start using rogaine, but ONLY the foam kind, because it doesn't contain the irritants that the liquid does. I prefer it anyway. I happen to use it all over my head right now. Yes, I know its only supposed to work on the crown, but it can work elsewhere too, and if you don't put it there it can't happen, eh? Besides, my initial goal is to shorten the sleeping phase of my HT hair. Nobody knows it it helps do that one way or the other, but should do no harm. When will you be back to square one? Impossible to answer. If your head is shaved, it will be quite some months. If not, _maybe_ sooner, but your HT surgery may go more slowly. Swimming I know nothing about, but I'd stay away for a few months myself. Pools have chlorine, and the ocean is acidic. Be nice to your hair for a few months. Don't touch or bump your head, especially in the first few weeks. Stay out of the sun, don't scratch. Wearing a hat is fine, even right after a procedure. My doctor puts celophane on top of your hair as extra protection. It may not be necessary, but do you want to take a chance? Good Luck, mark
  2. I'm finally getting rid of mine. I only recently reduced down so that I don't need a Manzier
  3. Thx Jo, I've used the Clarol for Men though, and thought it looked fine. However, I was dyeing it to my original dark brown color. From what I've learned here, I'll actually go with an ash blonde....i'll give it a try anyway. Now if you mean the rinse ones aren't so good...I suppose you could be right, I've never tried those. Maybe a pro would be good tho...I could get my hilights done...as soon as I have something to highlight...lol. mark
  4. While waiting for my new hair to grow out, my existing hair that had been shaved is coming up nicely, and I wanted to color it. I started another thread, but then thought to search this forum. There were threads about coloring, but the answers were all over the place. Some said wait 2 weeks post, others 2 months. So, I emailed my Dr.'s Personal Assistant, Ailene, and asked her. She indicated that Dr. Cooley prefers I wait 6 weeks post op to color, but if I must to use a temporary rinse color, instead of one of the permanent kind, such as Just for Men. Well, I have less than a week until the 6 week mark, so in the meantime I thought I'd learn a bit about hair coloring. I went to About.com, and Howstuffworks.com. Both had basically the same info, but both presented well. One of the interesting things I read is that the permanent kind uses amonia, becaus a solution is needed to open up the hair follicle, and then the other chemicals eliminate whatever natural color exists, and then replaces it in one step. So when you use Just for Men, etc, you're putting color INSIDE your hair in a way that can be a bit stressful. The Temporary Rinse Color products apply color to the outside, and are only good for about 3 shampoos. They have an acidic base, but because they aren't invasive into the follicle, they're much easier on your hair. For me, this research has given me a plan. I will NOT use color of any kind at the 6 week level, but will wait as long as possible, hopefully till the 3 month mark. At the 3 month mark I'll give the rinse variety a try, and with luck I hope to get away with that until I reach the 6 month or later mark, so that my hair is very strong before I put an invasive product like amonia into it. mark

  6. All of those happened to me Huge, except the gas part. Oh wait, that all happened before I took propecia, no wonder I haven't had any problems.
  7. What if you're a complete bastard, but an HT and a tuck make you really good looking. Surely this is as good as it gets for a bastard.
  8. Troy, I still don't get the sequence here: Troy to girl #1: "I'm seeing someone else." Girl #1 says, "you jerk! You're dumped!" Okay, now you call girl #2: "I'm seeing someone else." Girl #2 says "you jerk! You're dumped!" Now, in between that first phone call, and the second phone call, didn't it occur to you that you were no longer seeing girl #1, and therefore had nothing to tell girl #2? I'm all for honesty, but if you're going to be that forthcoming, why not tell them about the dog you kicked in the second grade while you're at it. As for them calling you back. You have 2 things in your favor: First you're a good looking guy with a buttload of hair, and secondly you can bet that after some consideration they realized that they may not like the competition, but they're not being two timed if the guy is upfront as you were, and good on you. Didn't I tell you honesty is the best policy? No, that was probably your Dad, sometime before he cautioned you about bringing babes home for a sleepover on the couch. mark
  9. Some bald guys are pretty good looking, there's no denying it, but which of them wouldn't look better with hair. Women: Some women prefer bald men, and some don't care, but nearly all women like men with hair. Who Love's ya, baby?
  10. Thanks Bay. This thread has gotten a serious number of view, but few posts, and not all positive. Also, its easy for a thread to get lost due to the layout of this discussion group software. Still, I'll be hanging in to see which way the wind blows...if it does. mark
  11. Well, this has gone, "THUD", so I'm guessing most prefer to be bald in private.
  12. Actually, sunglasses are a great idea! You know, something like this could be started out on a very small basis to start with. A convenient hotel, some meeting rooms, a few well placed events. 25 people would do it. mark h
  13. Hey Boo, Get an online consultation before you go Captain Picard. I said from the start a regimen might be best, but it is likely some HT work can be done to supplement. Its not all or nothing. mark h
  14. Maybe hire a comedian that specializes in bald jokes...okay that may be over the line.
  15. And there could be chachkis! What about BALD point pens?
  16. I'm confused Troy. If you told one of them, and She dumped you, then what did you have to tell the other one that made her dump you too? I mean, at that point you were already down to one girl. You didn't do this on a three way conference call did you? mark h
  17. As a what if...what if we had a doctor or several doctors who would give free mini consultations to interested attendees?
  18. I think your point is well taken Troy. This would be in effect like putting together a cancer party. And yet, cancer patients do get together, so I'll wait for further response. My take is that there would be several focuses: One would be to provide the newbie with a fast track to the lastest in HT's to help the general public make the best decisions. Another focus would be to provide an opportunity for those of us who interact here online to get together in the real world and share experiences, be social, and even to mentor. Finally, it could provide a showcase for top doctors to discuss the cutting edge, and future directions in a way that can't be done online. I certainly agree Troy that its not going to be for everyone, but I've enough experience at this sort of thing personally and tangentially to know they can be a lot of fun and educational. mark h
  19. thanks guys, if I get a strong enough response, I'll take this idea to Pat, and see if we can't noodle something together. mark h
  20. I'm going to weigh in with Mrjb here Bill. I think you've effectively described how it ought to be, but how it is, is a little different I think. Right now my head looks like 10 miles of muddy road. Is that who I am? No way, I'm a good looking guy with a full head of hair, who's 25 years old. Why is nobody else seeing that? mark h
  21. A thought occured to me, maybe its already occured to others. How would people view a Hair Loss Convention? As I said on another thread, I have a hard time believing we couldn't come up with some bald people, past and present. My ida would be a smallish affair at a Hotel. There could be a number of interesting segments, including guest doctors, HT panels where people could directly question HT recipients. There could be a specific section for female baldness, and of course there could be one or two evening social events. As it happens, I have a little experience putting such things together, and as I'm currently retired, I could devote some time to it, although at the end of January, I'll be starting to seek some new employment. Still, I think I could have most of it tied up before then with an aim to a summer of 07 debut. I realize there are frequent syposiums for the doctors, but who is spreading the word amongst the shiny headed masses? Thoughts? mark h
