Bernstein Medical - Center for Hair Restoration Patient ZNQ had a receding hairline and thinning overall. He had wavy, dark brown, medium coarse hair and a donor density of 1.9 hairs/mm2. “Results” photos were taken one year after his hair transplant of 2,115 follicular unit grafts. Note the new stronger hairline and the overall better hair quality, as full thickness terminal hair was added to his partially miniaturized, thinning hair.

As you may know, August has been declared National Hair Loss Awareness Month in order to raise the public’s awareness of hair loss as a common problem affecting millions of both men and women. As August comes to a close we would like bring attention to ISHRS's pro bono program, 'Operation Restore.' This program provides free hair transplants for those who experience localized hair loss due to trauma or illness.
In recognition of hair loss awareness month, Bernstein Medical has launched a fundraiser for Operation Restore.

Bernstein Medical - Center for Hair Restoration Patient HYC had dark brown, slightly wavy hair when he visited Bernstein Medical – Center for Hair Restoration for his first procedure. He had two sessions totaling 3,038 follicular unit grafts. Several years later HYC came in for a third hair transplant of an additional 1,252 grafts for a total of 4,290 grafts over the three sessions. The “after” photos were taken 13 years after his first, 12 years following his second, and one year after his third hair transplant session.

Bernstein Medical - Center for Hair Restoration Patient ZBO was a Norwood Class 5 with straight, white hair and a donor density of 2.0 hairs/mm2. Excellent point. This patient could benefit from temple restoration, unfortunately he did not have the donor supply and we made the decision to use all the hair on top. It is important to keep in mind that temple thinning diminishes the donor supply as the donor hair needs to be taken mainly form the back. This must be taken into account. Temple hair loss also portends more significant hair loss overall.

Bernstein Medical - Center for Hair Restoration Patient ECL had a Norwood Class 6 pattern of hair loss with medium, straight, light brown hair and a donor density of 1.8 hairs/mm2. See his results after two hair transplant sessions totaling 4,307 follicular unit grafts. The “after” photos were taken 10 years after his 1st session and 3 years after a 2nd hair transplant.

Update:
Here are some additional photos and information about the patient's donor area:
The first image shows a diagonal scar in the donor area from an accident that the patient had as a child. The ARTAS robot was programmed to avoid this scar when harvesting. Grafts were subsequently placed into the scar (see second photo). The third photo shows the donor area 11 days post-op just before he went to the barber to have his hair trimmed.

Reasonable comment, but his donor density was only 1.6 hairs/mm2 and his donor area continued to thin a bit over time - as did his hair transplant. I presented this as an example of very light coverage making and older person (with modest expectations) quite satisfied.

Bernstein Medical - Center for Hair Restoration Patient SFI is a Norwood Class 5, with slightly wavy, fine, white hair. With a donor density that is relatively low (1.6 hairs/mm2). He had two hair restoration procedures totaling 4,137 follicular unit grafts.

Good question. His donor density was low and his scalp slightly tight, so we decided not to go back to harvest more grafts in that session. We were able to accomplish what we needed to in the way of coverage. Increased density can be achieved at a future session when the scalp has stretched a bit - or by FUE.
