Senior Member mr_peanutbutter Posted January 12 Senior Member Share Posted January 12 i noticed some surgeons prefer doing the u- shape hairline while others go with a v-shape hairline
Regular Member jjalay Posted January 12 Regular Member Share Posted January 12 You have to take into account the face characteristics to make the right decision about the hairline design. Its very individual and another good reason to choose an experienced surgeon about your ht. What i really dont like is the straight hairline from one side to the other with no artistic view coming out of turkey.
Senior Member Chrisno Posted January 12 Senior Member Share Posted January 12 As has been said, it depends on your head shape. Generally, the wider your head the more straight hairline you could pull off. Very few people naturally have flat hairlines. As you age, a more rounded / V shaped hairline is very often more suitable as it looks way more age appropriate and thus natural. A V shaped / more curved hairline is more graft economical. 1 2500 FUE by Dr. Victor Hasson, June 2023
Valued Contributor Gatsby Posted January 12 Valued Contributor Share Posted January 12 Ideally I think you should follow what was your previous natural hairline along with consideration for your age and the future. You want a hairline that actually improves every year. This is where surgery ends and the art of surgery begins. 3 GATSBY 'UNPLUGGED!' 15,671 (3 surgeries) Grafts FUE+BHT Dr. Sethi Eugenix
Regular Member BaldGuy Posted January 12 Regular Member Share Posted January 12 (edited) The v-shaped is the best way if you have limited donor and you want to save grafts, since the "V" shape has less area than "U" or from the more straight hairlines. Senior Member Chrisno Posted January 12 Senior Member Share Posted January 12 Just now, mr_peanutbutter said: do you have an idea how much graft could be saved approx by choosing a v shape? Only your surgeon would be able to tell. Would depend on your head size, density requirements, hairline mid point height from the glabella, etc. 2500 FUE by Dr. Victor Hasson, June 2023

Depends how artistically the V shape has been constructed by the surgeon. We're talking about U's & V's but in reality a design should be custom to each patient and often a design will sit somewhere in between a full U and a full V. A good example of both a U and V being performed on the same patient across different surgeries is @MazAB, who's first HT was more U-shaped (and looked killer) before being tweaked with a slight center point and more temple closure, then his second HT was morphed into a V/widow's peak and also looks killer.
