Regular Member FergieFC Posted November 5, 2023 Regular Member Share Posted November 5, 2023 Hey everyone, I've been a member of this website for ten years now, I've been dealing with thin, diffuse hair for years now, and never liked the idea of taking meds for hair as i didn't want side effects and about a year ago i gave in, I started using finasteride 1mg and oral minoxidil 2.5mg everyday from SONS. While I'm relieved that I haven't experienced any side effects, I haven't seen any significant changes in my hair's thickness or overall appearance. I was hoping to get some advice from this community. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any tips or recommendations on what I should do next or what other options I could explore?
Valued Contributor Gatsby Posted November 5, 2023 Valued Contributor Share Posted November 5, 2023 Have you noticed your hair to continue balding or has this halted? If your hair loss has slowed down or stopped then the medication is working. All the best. Senior Member mavigo Posted November 5, 2023 Senior Member Share Posted November 5, 2023 Absolutely, I question using finasteride all the time. I've been on it for 2 years now and I can't tell if it's working or not. I still shed hairs but I think fin assists with slowing and stabilizing your hair loss but not halting/reversing it. Taking pictures can help to "monitor" progress. When I look at photos going back 3 years, it doesn't look like much has changed. Which is a good thing. If I was not on fin, it probably would be much worse and of course my HT doctor does not recommend discontinuing.
