If possible let us know name of surgeon. starting fin was a good choice. he should have started already before HTand lucky that he had not lost much at age 27 even without meds by being nw3 and had good temple area too and just needed frontal HT. He can save himself a crown and mid-scalp HT for now with meds. its little tough to see crown and mid-scalp due to very long frontal area hairs post-op pics so cant say how much meds have helped there but they work best in those areas so hoping they did for him.
