Scab, Anesthesia, or Possible Infection

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm 3 days post-op, 2060 grafts in the front/hairline. Been adhering to post-op care (showering twice a day, saline spray every 15-20 minutes, taking antibiotics and prednizone, sleeping at 35-45 degrees)

Everything seems ok except for one spot on my right temple that has excess yellowish pus/crust (it's more of a pus-like substance when I'm just out of the shower but as it dries it's more crust like - I spoke to my surgeon and he said it's just a scab forming, but I thought I'd check with guys here and see if anyone's had a similar experience. Just paranoid and want to see if it could potentially lead to something like a bad infection or if I'm being crazy.

since you had a pus like substance  at the scab area after showering i would think it is better to let that scab dry up. most household water has contaminants and would be an irritant. there is a topical antibiotic powder you can sprinkle on that scab. however this is just my opinion and you should consult with your dr first. also to rule out contaminants in the water use bottled water instead until the condition clears up thats if you continue with your previous regiment. good luck!

Why did your surgeon tell you to take prednisone? Did you have an unusual amount of inflammation or do you have some autoimmune issue?

That’s what he gives to all his patients, iirc he said it’s to keep swelling down - it’s Dr. Mwamba so I trust he knows what’s up. I’m also gonna post update pics on my scar area, it’s slowly but surely healing, I’ve just been putting neosporin on it to prevent possible infections

That's pretty interesting. Did everything work out with that yellowish area you posted earlier?

Oh yeah sorry that’s what I was referring to by “scar area”, just realized that could be interpreted as FUT scar area.

Because I’ve been showering everyday (usually twice a day), it’s been slow to heal because I haven’t really let it scab over, but it is getting better - I’ll have to see further down the road if it affects growth in that area. I have read a couple posts on here where people have had wounds similar to mine (usually it was due to them bumping their head hard or scratching, whereas with mine the skin in that area was just fragile according to Dr. Mwamba) and it didn’t really affect growth in the long run, so I’m hopeful it won’t be a huge issue. I’ll post pictures later tonight or tomorrow

@Gatsby @bear56 @consequence small update in case any of you are interested, it’s healed up a bit, there’s neobacitracine on it in this pic so it’s a little shiny, been putting it on after every shower. 18 days post op and very much in the shedding phase - the hairs directly around the wound were among the first to start shedding, ig we’ll see whether that’s a good or bad thing, not really gonna sweat it atm.

I’ll probably create an official progress post on in the future when a little more time has passed.
