hairwaytosteaven
Hey, i have been battling hair loss since my early 20s. I have considered a HT before, but i wanted to wait until my hair loss stops to avoid multiple HT. I now am 30 and my hair loss has stopped. Now i would like to know what the damage is and how many grafts i would need for a full head of hair. I would highly appreciate estimations from experienced members of this forum. Thanks in advance. Regular Member WhereIsMyMind Posted January 2, 2023 Regular Member Share Posted January 2, 2023 (edited) I don't want to be rude but Quote how many grafts i would need for a full head of hair At your stage, this goal is probably too optimistic. Are you on any medication? A HT in your state with no medications would be pointless. Go on treatment for at least 1 year and re-evaluate imo. You are basically full blown NW7 without much beard grafts, so I don't think there's enough donor at the current moment. Any decent surgeon will tell you the same. However you still have some minituarized hair left in midscalp, with a strong regimen you might end up in a better situation. Regular Member mdg8736 Posted January 6, 2023 Regular Member Share Posted January 6, 2023 I tried fin and had bad sides after the first week so I quit it. A year later I tried it again but instead I take 0.5mg (half pill) with the occasional full (1mg) pill and haven't noticed any sides for a month or so now. I would def try to hop on it and see what it can do for you. Worst case - I think that you could do 2500 grafts and distribute them lightly across front half of your scalp (w/ a very conservative hairline) in order to provide some level of coverage in the front. I don't think you will ever get back anywhere near the density you'd consider to be optimal or like it was in your teens. But to have a little to comb over may be of interest to you. Regular Member MisterBreakfast Posted January 6, 2023 Regular Member Share Posted January 6, 2023 I think you are nw7, and you likely have thinning in the donor, in which case a full head of hair is completely out of the picture. If you can't tolerate finasteride, you should probably not risk scarring and possibly ending up bald anyway. Sometimes the best transplant is the one you never got. Senior Member jjsrader Posted January 7, 2023 Senior Member Share Posted January 7, 2023 I think the battle may be over - & you are only 30 w/such radically advanced hairloss. The risk to reward for hair restoration is not favorable. You'd need to grow out your hair and get a full evaluation from a qualified hair restoration surgeon who is a straight shooter imho.
