Regular Member Mars19 Posted December 16, 2022 Regular Member Share Posted December 16, 2022 Hi guys, so both me and my brother are traveling to Turkey for a hair transplant and we will both be carrying cash. Probably around 10k each. I read online that family members can only bring 10k total if traveling together. Our connecting flight will be in Germany. Anyone have any experience with this? Do I have to declare in U.S. and then again in Germany? What constitutes as family?

Regular Member WhereIsMyMind Posted December 16, 2022 Regular Member Share Posted December 16, 2022 (edited) Make sure to not surpass the invididual limits. I know a person who got all his money confiscated in a Bahamas airport for surpassing the limit and not declaring it. He surpassed it by $12 because he had extra change on his wallet and the customs were asshole enough to include it. Dont be that guy 💀 Edited December 16, 2022 by WhereIsMyMind
Regular Member WhereIsMyMind Posted December 16, 2022 Regular Member Share Posted December 16, 2022 Clarification: if you want to surpass the limits on purpose (which is possible on most countries), make sure to declare everything and read every country tax rules before entering them if you want to avoid problems.
Senior Member HappyMan2021 Posted December 16, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted December 16, 2022 why are you carrying so much cash? sounds like a safety risk, especially in a foreign country. Can't you pay the surgery by debit or credit card?
Senior Member WhiteyUK Posted December 16, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted December 16, 2022 The Turkish government charge an additional fee if you pay by card I believe, I’m sure it’s 10%
Senior Member StillAlive Posted December 16, 2022 Senior Member Share Posted December 16, 2022 @HappyMan2021 Googling 'why would someone require me to pay in cash vs debit/credit card' will be answering a lot of your questions I believe
