Nestito
So I'm about to turn 19. I've always had fine hair and a high hairline, so losing my hair at a young age as my father did in his early twenties scared me. As soon as I realized my hair was thinning, I decided to get on propecia about 1mg to 1.25mg a day (since i'm doing the whole cut the 5mg tabs into 1/4s). Now I just found out that propecia has a 5 year effectiveness span, and I'm starting to think that I really screwed myself over. Since, that means by the time i'll be 23, I'll start to rapidly lose my hair. What do you guys think I should do. I still have hair, it's mainly receeding a little around the temples, and I took the propecia in order to 'hold the hair', if that makes any sense. Is there anyway, I can get off propecia without causing anymore hair loss, and then start using it later in my life, when my hair loss is much more present. Can I start using rogaine instead? I need some advice...ughh, help me! thanks, Nestito.

You have to continue with Finasteride. Stopping and starting back is a bad idea. Can I start using rogaine instead? You have to take minoxidil and finasteride together for the best effect. You have to take these drugs even after you do surgery, if you decide to do surgery. take care...
Senior Member brentipold Posted August 10, 2009 Senior Member Share Posted August 10, 2009 Just because some people have expereinced less effectiveness from the drug, that does not mean that you will.... Ive seen people taking it 10+ years and it is still just as effective.
Regular Member Am0986 Posted August 10, 2009 Regular Member Share Posted August 10, 2009 Don't worry about that. Take it now and at least it will slow the process down. I have been on it since I was 19 as well. Check out My Hair Loss Web Blog
