2 or 3 hairs growing from the same follicle - is that normal ?

When my hair is buzzed, very short and I look closely I notice that certain grafts have 2 to 3 hairs growing together. I though at first it might be split ends but its just the transplanted hairs that are like that so that couldn’t be the case.

Is this normal ?

If you are talking about transplanted hair having two or three hairs growing from one implanted graft then yes this happens. However it should happen because in the frontal hairline single should always be used and further back doubles (or triples, etc) are placed to give more density. Are you saying that you have double or triple hair grafts placed in the hairline?

Yeah I noticed them at the hairline but I’m sure I will have some at the mid scalp too.

If the appearance of these grafts are not worrying you then I would continue to ignore them if that is the case?

Well I never looked so closely and noticed them before at my front hairline, so I was worried at first. If its a normal thing and the hairs aren’t damaged than its alright. I assume they are only noticeable when the hair is very short. When my hair was long I never noticed them.

Beno99,

Actually, it doesn’t really matter whether you’re talking about transplanting or natural hair because they both grow in the same way. Technically speaking, only one hair grows per follicle however, follicles are often grouped together and are so close to one another that hairs appear to be growing out of the same follicle. These groupings are referred to as follicular units. Today, hair transplant surgeons harvest/extract hair as it appears naturally in the scalp    These follicular units typically contain 1 to 4 hairs.

When one’s scalp is viewed under magnification, these hair groupings are clearly seen because there are bigger spaces between follicular units.  The hairs that you see that are very close together or part of a single follicular unit and again contain 1 to 4 hairs   But underneath the surface of the scalp, they are still individual follicles, they are just very close together

I hope this helps.
