Post Op - Day 8 (Lots of scabs)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone.

So i'm on day 8 post my FUE HT, and i've been washing my hair gently since day 3 with baby shampoo, but I have a lot of scabs.

I don't feel safe about massaging my scalp yet, since i'm worried about my grafts, but is it normal to have so many scabs? And what would you recommend?

Thanks.

You said you have used baby shampoo but for how long did you leave it on?

How are your scabs today?

It looks better now. I started to gently massage the scabs with shampoo on day 10. As you can see there is a little blood, but nothing to be worried about. I’m on day 12 now, and this is how it looks. What do you think?

Much, much better. For what I can see very quickly is that the scabs that are left are the bigger ones from your first photo.

What I would advise you to do is to gently dab shampoo on the last scabs and let it soak in for 1.5 hours (advise I got from my clinic before they washed it for me). The scabs should come of but don't force it.

Thank you. The thing is, when i massage these areas, specially the big one on the left, i feel a little pain, so i dont think that it has heeled 100% yet, so im gonna give it a couple days before i soak it in. But thank you for your advise!

Please note that you should ask your clinic. I removed the last line as I found that the advise from my clinic does differ from others, each clinic has their own reasoning so best thing to do is to send them an e-mail with the last picture and ask for advise, they will tell you what they think the best option is for you :)

Scabbier then many at day 12, but given how you looked day 8, I'd say things are progressing quite well.   I wouldn't stress it, they'll come off in time when they're ready.

Is that yellow bruising in the first picture or just the lighting?  I had quite a bit of that.  If it is, it's the first time I've seen it outside of me and I had it pretty significantly.  My forehead was yellow. lol

According to my clinic I was advised to leave it on for 30 minutes from day 3 (day 1 is surgery day) to day 9. On day 10 they advised at least 1 hour. Also I used a lotion without any chemicals, parfums or alcohol instead of shampoo. Then in the shower I rinsed off the lotion very slowly and gently. After the lotion I used shampoo which I left on for 2 minutes.

Please note that my first washing was at day 3 by a transplantation specialist at the clinic and my last was at day 10 at the clinic as well. At day two they teached me how to wash it.

But again, this is my clinic and the first ten days after care are extremely important. Hence the washing was done by them on day 2 and 10.

Next to this 1 month before and for the first 20 days after I wasn't allowed to drink alcohol, take drugs (other than prescription), smoke, be in areas where people smoke, bump my head, hold my head down (first 10 days) . Wearing head gear wasn't allowed in the first 3 months. No swimming for the first month, no barber the first 3 months (donor area 1 month), I also had an emergency number (24/7) that I could call in case if I bumped my head. So yeah, pretty serious which made me feel safe 🙂

But be aware that the aftercare regime differs per doctor, just like the whole procedure during the surgery is different per doctor. So please follow the instructions of your clinic strictly as they will know what is best for their patient.

Be gentle with those remaining scabs.  Just be patient and let them heal and fall off on their own.  I know its temping to touch them and to try to speed up the process but you're better off letting it occur naturally.

My clinic told me to put on some lotion on the remaining scabs/crust for 30 minuts before showering today, and it helped me a lot to get the rest off. I’m on day 14 today. Here is the result 🙂

but i agree, better safe than sorry. My clinic told me that it will help the healing proces to get it off after 14 days, but again - everyone has a different healing proces, so make sure to talk to your clinic and send them some pictures.
